Have this & the non driver version of this model + the '63 Lotus 25. Absolutely spot on review. You pointed out things I hadn't noticed before. There's been a few top, top level driver's in F1, Ascari, Fangio, Moss, Stewart, Rindt, Andretti, Lauda, Prost, Senna, Schumacher & Hamilton in my humble opinion, but Clark won in everything all the time & as you say had he had more reliable equipment & hadn't died so young, a lot of his statistics would have been unattainable to match let alone beat. All of the driver's of the day from '62-'68 knew he was the man to beat.

Jim Clark is, in my opinion, the most naturally gifted driver to ever grace F1 (and the greatest ever).

JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was the Best of the Best. No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark. This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps...For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just four examples of his mesmeric unique genius...

I don't think anyone who hasn't witnessed him driving live can truly know how great he was. I already get that feeling from watching crappy montaged footage though! The best ever by a long shot imo

Great review. You go over plenty of details, and show it well. And the history bit is interesting too. I've just today won the 1-43 scale version of the German GP winning car by spark. Kind of won it by accident - wasn't prepared to let it go so cheap, so put a bid in. I do prefer the Lotus 49, but already have a quartzo version, but wouldn't mind upgrading it. Also a lotus 25, but by brumm and it's a bad model really. Horrid plastic details and I generally prefer a driver figure (if they're decent at least). The 25 has the iconic wheels, but basically looks the same as a 33 to me.

Spark will release a Lotus 49 in 1/18 in the near future! One to look forward to for sure, such a beautiful car!

Very good review. I have also this Spark model in my collection of classical F1 car. I like very much the F1 from the sixties and the fifties. Models like : Porsche 804 F1(1962) from AutoArt Signature 1:18 , Honda RA272 (1965) Mexico GP Winner - AutoArt Signature 1:18 , are very beautiful. And the superb Maserati 250F (1957-Fangio World champion) from CMC. Have you allready done a review to the Exoto model 1:18 scale, Lotus 49 (1967) Jim Clark Dutch Grand Prix Winner?

Better than GP replicas, better value for money. the greatest acheivement of any classic f1 model is to capture the facial expression, they all look like jack brabham but probably because those goggles were an equalising factor.

The figurine on the French GP Lotus 25 is a bit better. That one is has a white paint over it, mimicking the balaclava and so the facial features are less noticable...

Great review as always! To answer your questions, for me, Senna is the GOAT. And regarding the classical F1 models, I like them a lot. I have I my collection the Ferarri 312B from Exoto drove by Mario Andretti at the South African GP 1971 - wonderful modelcar.

Thanks! Senna is a great shout too! Ironically, Ayrton thought of Clark as being the greatest! I really love the classic cars, back when F1 was still a real competition between mechanics building these cars in sheds, and a bunch of gentlemen drivers with balls the size of watermelons, racing these things with no fear or regard for their own lives...

Clarks death was unpalatable we will never see his like again he is definitely the goat as are lotus. Mclaren and Williams only supersceeded them by being more painstaking and meticulous, but never more innovative or revolutionary, there they had only Brabham as their rival.

Colin Chapman and Gordon Murray were true geniuses indeed. They did however have much more freedom in the rules back to compared to the designers nowadays. Lotus did bring a lot of important innovations to F1 that are still used to this day.

Gearbox looks crude as are the exhaust trumpets. I’m never keen on inclusion of driver figurine… Just my opinion as it’s a model of a truly beautiful racing car.

Nowhere near a handbuilt model, but I don't have the patience nor the skills to make those kits, so this will do!

What a crap model ,you spend a little more and you buy an exoto version, this is just a piece of glue! Not a fan.

Yeah, but Exoto hasn't made this very car, so that's not an option. And as a company, Exoto are a total mess to deal with. If you buy straight from them, you'd be lucky not to be scammed. But to each their own!
