[Review] Should You Play Tarisland? (2024)
Ойындар
I was invited back to check out Tarisland, an MMORPG developed by Tencent, for a Technical Playtest ahead of its June 2024 launch date. The game has definitely improved since the last time I played, but I still have reservations about some aspects of the game. Let me know what you think and what your expectations are for the game when it launches. Thanks!

Tank. Look up an MMO tank guide for mechanics. The basics are: take aggro, turn the boss to avoid cleaving the team, stand inside the hitbox so minimal movement is required to sidestep left or right to avoid cleave damage. I'd recommend Paladin or Warrior. The other tank has a lot of mobility and linear movement put into the kit. You can make maybe 5 alts, so you can try them all if you need to.

Thanks for the tips!
In terms of Tencent I think people get up in arms about them being a Chinese megacorp and privacy concerns, especialy in the US, however I think as a corporation they seem pretty hands-off with dev teams and let them do their job. Path of Exile is a good example.

That’s been my experience too. Corporate shells are going to business as businesses do 🤷. I just care about the end user experience.
I actually like that there is no map in dungeons. Makes you accountable to watch your teammates back.

That’s definitely a good point. To each their own
The only way to grow a player base on mobile is to make it stupid simple. Looks great tho

It is super easy to pickup!
No map in a dungeon adds to the whole exploration side of things. As for the micro transactions, it sucks and can spoil these games but they have a server and a staff base to maintain. These things aren't free behind the finished product.

Yeah, with the MTX, you know it’s always about the consumer choice and willpower. I don’t blame a company for trying to make money. I do think that you know, sometimes developers get away from making a game a game instead of an opportunity to funnel income back into their pockets, but that’s the reality so.
Does the gear finally change appearance?

It does not :(.

The ranged class skills are pretty forgiving in terms of range and they all lock on so no worries about missing

Yeah odd that this isn’t in considering dueling is.
Oh, does the capital in the middle of SilverLit really bother you that much, "MooReaper?" 😅

Man does it! It is definitely by design but all it does is remind me of poor localization in general 😩
Can we change gender after we have already started the game with particular gender ?
@mooreaper

No, you are not able to change gender after character creation. However, the devs have committed to having two genders for each class. 2 classes will have both genders at launch.
The game is similar to WOW, I hope it will be very successful and WOW will come to mobile somehow.😅

I think there’s that general western perception issue with mobile, but I wonder how different it would be if western companies got to mobile first for RPGs considering our user base. But maybe the PC lobby is too strong?
