Thank you very much. What impresses me about the original JBC tips is that the hottest part of it is at the very end of the tip. Brilliant! The ones that came with the knock-off station do not heat to the very tip. Thermal camera is actually a very good demonstration of this difference.

Nice technique to get a IC out without a hot air station. Also great review.

Hi, I bought the same a few days ago ... . For my part it does not heat up enough the tip sticks on the card and the tin does not stay caught on the tip. I do not strongly recommend it

Your old tip is well used, darker color, so it has different emissivity than the new shiny tip. You can't accurately get a temperature reading of a shiny polished metal object with a thermal camera, even if you change the emissivity on the camera. Thermal cameras are great on dark and dull objects, but can't see shiny metals clearly. They act like a mirror that partly reflects the temperature of the environment and partly show their own temperature. The shinier they are, the more close to the environment temp they'll show.

I like the fact that you are Greek because there aren't many who done such things like you. I 've just subscribed and i watch your channel with interesting care. Only i would suggest you when you do a bga reworking job in camera, to leave a royal free music background, because your microphone is activating with voice as i can imagine. Just a friendly advise though. Keep up the good work.

Maybe someone could explain something to me. It seems like alot of wires for a simple soldering iron. I mean why can't the iron plug directly to the machine itself instead of going from the wall to the machine then the machine to the holder then the holder to the iron?

Thanks for your interesting input Dimitrie! That would make perfect sense and out of curiosity I just measured a brand new unused JBC tip and no significant difference.Thermal camera showed around 280C so i don't think that this is the case here.

@@RepairLab Since you're using a FLIR camera (and they are the best), here is an interesting article in their site: www.flir.com/discover/rd-science/use-low-cost-materials-to-increase-target-emissivity/ . Also there is a JBC Tip Thermometer (TID-A), a HAKKO tip thermometer (FG-101) and a dozen Chinese clones. You can use them to calibrate your tips if you think they're off. A JBC or Hakko could be 1-10 degrees off, a knockoff can be 5-35 degrees off. I know that accurate temperature measurement is only for amateurs (like me), since professionals like you, Louis or Jessa depend on their experience, and not on the reading of their station.
