Your presentation is 10 times better than the manufacturer’s.

I would cut a 1 to 1 1/2" hole in the face of that reservoir drawer, ( center and towards the bottom ) and install a nylon ball valve that would connect to a hose to prevent waste. Run that hose to a 5 gallon bucket ( so you can add organic nutrients if needed ) with a 5 gpm pump, connected to a drip system for each plant. Add a quick change hose for watering and attach feed lines to a central distribution block so you can still rotate the planter as needed. Use adhesive backed zip tie mounts for water line management so you can drip neatly to each plant. Just my two cents, lol. Happy gardening!

Nice review. One suggestion, is as the tower getting assembled each level should be filled with potting mix and next level inserted and filled with potting mix and so on. That way, we can ensure that potting mix of the necessary quantityu to cover the entire level in all nooks and corners.

@@MajorIllustration I would think the worm bin would help keep the soil rich with nutrients, but I am no expert so not 100% sure myself.

I have eight of these. The lower two rings seem not to grow well due to watering issues. You have to use potting soil that drains well. Overall pretty happy with them. Have to water them everyday.

Hmmm. Are you watering each individual planting area? If not, then what gets watered from the top will get drenched and little water will make it to the bottom. And won't the roots up the upper plants spread into the planting areas below them?

I'm wondering if there is a way to drill a hole on the front side of that water catch basin on the bottom, put a pump in there and have the pump tube go from the basin and back up to the top, attached to a few drip heads?

The directions say to add 1/3 of soil reaching in those holes to push the soil down then 3 gallons water, then repeat.

I think not just saving water, but also saving leached nutrients.

Also you're forgetting the fact that plants take up water and transpire through their leaf surfaces, so the water in the reservoir isn't going to last forever.

I wonder if it's good for growing a certain plant that's legal in most states.

Love the concept, but as stated prior the cost is quite high; that said, I am interested on how well it works! :)

Mine works well for herbs. Set up indoors with full spectrum lights set up vertically at 4 corners of a 4x4x6 grow tent. Have gingerroot in the top tier for ease of harvest.

I have an indoor vermicomposting box, 5 years now, and was coached to keep it in a cool, warm constant indoor location year round. Also, to not have it outdoors in the high heat of Summer. Or, to have it out in freezing temps. So, does this mean we also need to bring this indoors for the New England Winter to keep our worms happy and alive? Does anyone have comments or thoughts on this regarding the Tower Garden Project 2?

From what I read in the facebook owner-sharing posts so far, it doesn't seem to be a problem, and from what I can imagine thinking of the basic physics of it, I think it should be okay unless you live very south. A vermicomposting box is specially designed just to compost things, nothing else, so only the compost and the minimum of 'extras' like some bedding and a bit of dirt would be added. Keeping it more airy and light is ideal for that set-up too. That could easily heat up, I imagine. But this tower is essentially one giant block of pure dirt packed together, with only the narrow middle tube working as the actually 'composting' part of it, which is the more airy part. The dirt may warm up, but overall I imagine, well, it's dirt, it should still stay relatively cool all packed together and moist. The plant roots aren't being cooked in the dirt either, right? And it's so tall as well. The warms can just dig their way lower and lower and to the cooler dirt of the tower facing away from the sun if they feel hot, and they can go back to the compost tube at night or during cool weather when they're hungry. I think depending on where you are, there should be a similar insulating effect for the dirt in cold weather too, but I think that's more of a danger. Now this part is just totally me guessing now, but I imagine the health of the plants would be a nice rough indicator for the potential health of the worms? If it's so cold the plants die off (not just 'sleep', but don't come back at all next year), it sounds sensible to be too cold for worms to live too. But if the plants can sleep and live, maybe the worms might be able to? You could try asking in the facebook group from actual owners if you're quite curious.

So I'm new to gardening and I live in South Florida. My first couple thoughts, wouldn't that water down at the bottom get nasty, mildewy? Don't some plants need different amounts of sun & water? So how do you handle this? Also, is the plastic a food grade plastic? Has it been tested to see if it has lead in it?

I live in SWFL, and it's so damn hot here vs the little you get out, that I water daily. If I have an overflow, I just pour it into an old commercial coffee pot I found as Goodwill. It only happens during the height of rainy season, and there isn't much to plant then anyway.

Mine is about 90% full. I put mine on wheels so I can follow the sun.

@@rajanirao3420 I imagine to get it off the ground and because they are selling on their own the costs will be high for them. It is pretty ingenious. For them to make money or a profit they have to sell a ton of them. Jeez rain barrels cost $200 plus for and empty plastic container to hold water!

How do you clean it out? These things all looks good until the cleaning time, which very few cover

How does this Tower work in the southern Arizona area with watering?

Eventually, wouldn’t the middle fill up with worm castings, with no way to add additional scraps for the worms?

@@kevinmaragh7510 it did very well! We could have planted a lot more than we actually did. It's a little hard at first to think of 60 things growing out of one spot but it's possible. We only planted maybe half of that as we planted little plants and not seeds. We grew Kale, green onions, which we harvested for a long time! Romaine lettuce, strawberry, flowers, oregano, spinach, and other salad greens. Like I said we could have done a lot more but we didn't plant seeds. We are redoing the tower again this year and we will make "Mel's mix" and use that instead of bagged soil like we did last time. We will also try putting worms in as we didn't put any in last time. We really didn't take advantage of the compost part as much as we could have mostly because we didn't have worms. I think the tower is great and want to plant seeds this time around and grow even more!

How do you get the worm compost out?

For the price it should have a pump and timer for watering.

Looks like you would need to have a 5-gallon bucket to pour the bottom water into, so that you can put the empty reservoir back in

Somebody commented about the heat of direct sunlight will be bad on the worms? But how will it grow properly out of the sun?

I was hoping to see how it looked in several months at least, not just the initial setup.

Love this...WONDERFUL lesson for our children on how plants grow in Natures own cycle. Only question is .... where do the worms come from? I did read you shouldn't use the kind of soil that is packaged with fertilizer, just plain soil from somewhere, so are the earthworms everywhere around us in the soil and they will reproduce in the Tower when they are settled and Nature is working. I hope the price comes down as its availability becomes known and we can begin to see them being used by local people who have trouble purchasing $$ produce at expensive grocery stores in OUR country.

If I wanted to use this indoors, how do you propose lighting setup? Would the light bars need to be vertical around it?

It says (says) 100 percent UV stable food safe HDPE. My PVC plumbing, hoses, seed trays and watering cans all have plastic, I feel your frustration. Try zero waste vertical gardening websites,, I found greatescapefarms.com has some super ideas for using natural materials.

I have read that Red Wigglers are an invasive species in parts of the US, something about damaging the layer of earth on top that hurts local plant life, so I wouldn't recommend letting worms you purchase off free that way unless you research and are sure they are safe. I think you should just leave it be though and let them hung out in the tower if you get one, see if they can survive the winter in there first before making any other decisions! Who knows!

fill from the bottom up. dont build the full tower and then try to fill. put on one or two rings then fill with soil and spray gently with the hose

So, since the 'core' is there for compost/worm food material, I assume you used a potting mix without any added, slow release fertilizer? It's kind of difficult around here to find such a mix in larger quantities. What mix did you use, and where did you get it?

I use sungro professional growing mix. It has no added fertilizers.

£295 in the UK...WAY TOO EXPENSIVE...i can buy a lot of salad stuff for that money with no work at all. Ive got a worm composter, had it 5 years works great, use the compost to pot up new plants. Had a strawberry tower years ago, the soil settled and the plants pulled down into the tower. better to grow salad stuff constantly.

Don’t let plastic go to zero degrees.

While it seems like a good idea, the fact that you would water your plants often it would create a problem for compost being to wet and causing issues for the worms.

Kalvin One this weighs a lot to use indoors. You could use straw and a really light soil mix and maybe get away with it.

Depends on what your growing, but you can use a sun defusing cloth and create an awning over it if it's too hot.

No, hydroponic is cleaner, BUT the major downsides are: 1) it requires additive synthetic fertilizer 2) Salts in the synthetic fertilizer additive degrades its own structure as well as the whole system over time. Tower Garden is nice, but at twice the cost and the added cost of upkeep its not worth.

As I understand it, some hydroponic towers need electricity, as water has to be constantly pumped to the top.
