9:30 that is not how you use this haha. This French skiver is for skiving, not beveling the edges. They are incorrect in calling it a beveler but the Chinese usually copy things without knowing what they even are.

I've been using tools like this for years. Yes, I use them for skiving, but this one is too narrow for that. For skiving, you would need a tool with a wider throat. Using it for beveling allows me to adjust the angle of the cut.

@@jprleatherworks1687 they are just fine for skiving edges. Sure, it would take a while to thin down a whole piece of leather but that is not what it is for. It is for skiving the edges before gluing and stitching so the piece isn’t too bulky/thick. You also suive edges for making turned edges/ rolled edges on luxury goods. Other brands make several sizes with 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm. The one owden makes is a 6mm which is the standard size , along with 8mm. The higher you go, the harder it is to skive through the leather. The most efficient size that is easy enough to use while still taking off enough is the 8mm, in my opinion.

Also I think you are using your Japanese leather knife the wrong way up. The bevel is supposed to be facing up, not down.

As I mention in the video, some do use it the way you mention. The real pros I know do not. Either way works, if it accomplishes your goal.

Dont buy from Owden. Poor quality and you cannot return the product because they never answer your mail or provide you with a return address.

Owden is pretty low quality. Their tools are made of cheap steal, their edge bevelers are unevenly shaped, their creasers fall appart when heated due to terrible construction. The only half decent item of theirs is their replaceable tip awl,. Although even that is hard to tighten without pliers.also both diamond blades are the same sized. The worst is the stitch groover. The screw only has one thread that makes it so you can’t screw the grooving blades. A box in completely unimportant. You are purchasing a tool, not a pretty 2 cent box. Also the so called “ebony” wood is just cheap stabilized wood that is dyed black, not real ebony. The look is still decent though. Also its, owden, not auwden. Source: I’ve bought almost every single tool they sell.

Odd that you have bought every single tool they sell if you find them to be of poor quality.

@@jprleatherworks1687 I was just getting in leather craft and decided to buy all the tools I would need all at once. It was a very poor decision, but I don’t regret it as I learned my lesson.
