As you might have already guessed, the topic of our conversation today will be artillery, but not just any artillery, but a representative of the American nation of the eighth level - this is the M40/M43 guide.
Depending on the affiliation of a particular nation, individual self-propelled guns at each level have some kind of zest. If you look at the M40/M43 performance characteristics, we can say that among the eighth artillery our American does not stand out as anything special; on the contrary, it represents the golden mean and now you will see this.
As usual, first of all I would like to draw your attention to the fact that we have at our disposal a quite standard, I would say, an average margin of safety, as well as a basic visibility of 290 meters that is good by the standards of our classmates, but weak compared to other equipment.
It is impossible not to mention that the Art-SAU M40/M43 WoT is one of those self-propelled guns in which it makes sense to consider a coli model. So, the thickness of the sides, stern and roof is minuscule; any land mine will enter these projections with complete penetration and there is nothing special to talk about here.
However, in the frontal projection there is a section that, under a successful set of circumstances, is capable of repelling a blow from not too high-level guns. Considering the M40/M43 armor characteristics, the strongest part of the vehicle is the NLD, painted orange. Here, depending on the angle of inclination, the armor ranges from 108 to 162 millimeters, and if the enemy shoots here or a landmine of enemy artillery explodes in front of the tank, we have a chance to survive or even get a ricochet. Otherwise, the frontal projection is very vulnerable, since most of the areas here are made of cardboard.
In terms of mobility, the M40/M43 artillery is far from the slowest and can boast a very good maximum speed, but what is even more important is that in terms of dynamics we are in second place among the self-propelled guns-8, which gives us the opportunity to develop speed faster than others and escape from fire or simply take a better position. As for maneuverability, the M40/M43 World of Tanks turns quite briskly, but this is still not enough if you decide to spin some firefly or ST.
The most important part of any tank, and especially artillery, can rightfully be called the weapon, because a lot depends on the parameters of the gun in battle.
In the case of the M40/M43, the gun does not have a record-breaking, but very serious alpha strike. At the same time, we are second from the bottom in terms of reloading speed, so each shot must be fired carefully.
With the parameters of armor penetration in our case, everything is approximately standard and there is one good bonus - thanks to the large caliber of the gun, we have a rather impressive radius of scattering fragments, thanks to which the M40/M43 World of Tanks Artillery SPG can inflict about 300 units even without hitting the target exactly splash damage, and also, after the release of update 0.9.18, we have the opportunity to stun vehicles that fall within the radius of scattering fragments, significantly reducing its characteristics for a short period of time.
Another important point is accuracy, and for artillery this parameter almost always leaves much to be desired. Regarding our case, the M40/M43 art is really oblique, as it has a very large spread, long convergence and poor stabilization.
The only good thing here is the vertical and horizontal aiming angles, because without moving you can turn the muzzle 18 degrees left and right, these are excellent indicators. As for UVN, the M40/M43 WoT self-propelled gun is capable of lowering the gun by 5 degrees, this is the best indicator at the level and in some situations this feature can save your life.
