Its good to think of it as an upgraded takedown. This probably feels more like a primary with 12 rounds, bigger grip and priming handle, and a more vertical grip.

As a post-apocalypse larper, this blaster is actually pretty good for me. Our rules force you to “reload” for a few seconds after every six shots, so twelve rounds is perfect. And the internal magazine means that I don’t have to carry more clips on me, so yea, good blaster for my very niche but very specific parameters.

I bought a secondhand Takedown for the larp just before this gun released and I'm partly a little bummed I didn't wait, but ah well. I bought one the day they hit the shelves. I really like the form factor and the comfort. I understand that it's a little slow and doesn't have slam fire, but I upgraded the spring and now it shoots 130 fps, and I use it to antagonize my boss. I also find it to be significantly more accurate than my Artemis, and the Apollo is easily the most awkward blaster I've ever held and I literally never use it. Now Dart Zone exists, and they have actual pro blasters, of which Nerf STILL hasn’t responded to (surprisingly so, as they’re not only the name brand who would have the most popularity and recognition, and the pro blasters would be the easiest to build, as well as to provide marketing material to older audiences), but hey, I guess Nerf thinks they’re too good to make good decisions

@@mrsoisauce9017 Nerf apparently still wants to be considered a toy brand for mainly children, and other markets, for example the European markets, have stricter laws on blasters, which currently have a gray area (not every EU state is in line) that Hasbro would need to clear up as well. There are probably a lot more reasons to this though. They must be aware of the profits a pro line would make them, so they don't avoid it for no reason

It seems clear to me that the new Rival blasters (talking about the Pilot, Fate, Vision, Pathfinder and Forerunner) are designed for plinking rather than battling, and that's fine for me. I think they all feel good to hold and operate, and they're reasonably accurate, so it'd be fun to hold a sharpshooting competition where players have to use all of those blasters. I'd also be down to play battles in which these are the only blasters permitted, and in limited quantities for each team (who gets the Pathfinder?).

I bought the blaster a while back when it was new to my Walmart. I am a stock class nerfer who plays with friends and family mostly. I live in an area where nerf has to be done indoors for 9 months of the year cause it gets very cold outside. I also don’t have arenas or major nerf events in my area so I don’t like to buy lots of gear like magazines. So this gun is perfect for small wars or long wars where I can “live off the land.” I also like the format of the gun and the colour of the rounds.

The Chronograph Results screen showing a bunch of other blasters is AMAZING. PLEASE KEEP. I love it. I really miss my Artemis. It got me more wins than any other blaster, I don't do long range at all in a war, so Rival is great for me. Honestly the biggest thing that draws me to this blaster is the ergonomics. If they redo this blaster in the future, bringing the power up(I'd hope 95) I'm going to heavily consider picking one up. Honestly, due to it having a limited capacity I wouldn't want slam fire on this. I have second thoughts. One of the secret advantages of the Artemis is how long its 30 rounds will last you. I've gone entire games forgetting to reload my Artemis, never running dry. It has insane longevity without reloading for a blaster of its size, and this allowed me to always have my eyes up and watching for incoming darts or anyone making a move on the field. Slam fire quickly deters pushes or will clear them entirely. We need a re-release of the Artemis, with more comfortable hand grips(this is necessary. The Artemis grips will hurt your hands, but you can get aftermarket ones). I surely will pick one of them up.
Awesome videos! I really like this series, I’m glad they brought back rival
As a plinker this one is interesting to me, because it doesn't shoot that fast but seems to still be very accurate. It's nice to see the balls flying into their target instead of just instantly arriving there. They also didn't mess up the mechanics or ergonomics on this one, so looks like a pretty solid nerf gun for in-home target shooting.
@csgonova2trash4
Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting point. With slow darts, because of the downward arc, the rear sights need to be capable of being adjusted really high, otherwise the darts hit below where you aim. The backspin on the balls possibly allows for a lower velocity. Kind of like a sniper shooting a very distant target, where it takes time for the bullet to get there. Possibly this rival forerunner can sort of replicate that, except for closer indoor distances. The adjustable rear sight should help. The two dart blasters I have, with their fixed sights, I prefer the higher velocity one because it actually hits where I aim, at around say 20 - 25 ft. The lower velocity one simply hits way below where I'm aiming, so the sights are largely unusable. (And the gun basically blocks my view of what I'm trying to shoot, unless I hold it lower and angle it up.) Unfortunately, on most blasters, the sights seem to be an afterthought.

It has also been a great choice for our competitive arena play.
I would get these for my Nerf Birthday party business. Artemis blasters are harder to come by at a reasonable price and are just larger. This is easier to prime and reload for the kids to figure out. I’ll probably add a 3D printed stock mount and add a stock to make it more comfortable for the kids to buy. But I’m definitely happy this is out
I appreciated the graph comparison of all the other blasters on the market. Good way to show the range clearly.
The Forerunner is more accurate than a lot of blasters. Like all the ones you named. Perfect for a CQB environment. Mine only did 80 fps out of the box. 11 coils of K26 brought it up to a healthy 126 fps average.
Looks quite useful to me. I go to a nerf based sci-fi Larp where magazine/capacity size determines the class of the weapon, 18 is the limit for a rifle, over that you move into heavy category. So a twelve round capacity rival blaster in what looks like a reasonably slimline package is quite tempting. I play a sniper character and most of my kills are marksman calls, so the secondary blaster doesn't see huge use. A quick draw 12 shot backup looks good to me.
I am a semi-serious Nerfer who enjoys the Forerunner. I love the Takedown with all my heart, it's a great pump-action blaster that allows me to play aggressively and actually tag people. The Forerunner, for me at least, is basically a Takedown with 4 extra shots, a firmer grip, and a pistol grip- it's a match made in Heaven. I prefer these two over the Artemis because the grip is vertical as opposed to horizontal, which feels much better to fire off repeatedly when I'm sliding or just going fast. Additionally, I find it's much quicker to reload because it's a single-slot as opposed to having to open up the top like a P90. This is all me, I get it's not for everyone, and I definitely think Hasbro could have given the Forerunner slam fire, but I personally enjoy it.
I picked up the Forerunner when it came out and love it. It has a nice grip, great priming slide, feels great in the hands, has a great 12 round capacity, and is very accurate. It hits softer than my other Rival blasters, but that's actually better for my purposes. I just use it for plinking, and occasional popping one of our cats when he attacks the others (it doesn't hurt him at all, he just looks perplexed when popped). Overall I think it's way better than the Takedown due to the better ergonomics, accuracy, and ammo capacity. Fantastic blaster!
I love how Coop has never changed the layout and way he films his videos.
The speeds shocked me. Everyone else who has put it on a chrono got ranges in the 100+. I wonder if Coop just got a lemon or if it is wildly inconsistent blaster to blaster.
Love the constant ball jokes throughout the vid. Really loving these new do what you want to reviews

@@hman6159 the problem with hyper is its ammo but other than that i can relate with you.
I personally only have the Forerunner but chose it over the Artemis (as top picks for this type of blaster) last second because of other online reviews. They stated that the Forerunner had a higher chrono (90 to 100 measures actually), the balls fly straighter, and the front handle on the Artemis tend to crack after prolonged rough use, not to mention more jams due to the more complicated mechanisms. Among those reasons, reloading faster and being more lightweight is my playstyle.
@godlikewr888
Жыл бұрын
Just wondering how long have you been using your Artemis for? I personally owns a Artemis that is well over 6 years old, and have not experienced any mechanical malfunction. The problems with yours might be a manufacture issue. This hypothesis is based on the fact that my Apollo broke down because of a gear failure.
I'm definitely getting this. It's a Saturn for CQB and the Saturn is my favourite blaster so it fixes my only downside with the Saturn. Another favourite is the Takedown and the Forerunner is not much bigger but can take 4 more balls.
I am the type of person who prefers to play with low-capacity blasters on a field with a lot of obstacles. My favorite setup for Nerf fights is a 1-4 (not necessarily it's just to ban 2x4) capacity blaster with 2 bullets for each and 3 hits required to kill. These conditions really push the tactical aspect of the game to its limits in both team vs. team matches and battle royale matches since you have fewer bullets than you need to kill a single person. The most important thing in this fight is to have high mobility, a handy grip, comfortable prime and reload sequences, and be able to dodge and catch projectiles. So, here are the reasons why I do like Forerunner and comparisons with other guns. 1 Artemis's high capacity has no use for us because you have to be really eco with your bullets. Even if it shoots harder, Artemis has its center of mass really far away from the handle because of the drum, making it almost impossible to use it on the run with one hand, not to mention how hard it is to shoot it from a cover because of its barrel location. 2 Then there's the Apollo, which CAN be used with one hand but makes running around with it awkward because it doesn't allow you to bend your arm properly. Another thing about Apollo is that it has some huge space requirements for reloading in vertical plan - just try to reload it while sitting and you will understand what I mean once it will turn into irregular huge sharpy cross. Forerunner, on the other hand, has its center of mass in a manageable space, has a sight for precise shooting attempts, is really thin so you can shoot from a cover holding it on one side, it has a really comfortable, easy to carry rectangular shape with a pretty big projectile absorption area (blocking shots with guns is allowed) , it can be primed with one hand, and you can easily reload just as you shoot. ( I know that there is also a Kronos for my needs, but the shotgun is just cooler and helps the immersion with its priming sound.)
Coop saying, “BAWZ!” never get’s old in any way! 😂😅
Coop! I love your videos and have a response to your question at 4:51. The Forerunner makes a good selection in our case. A little context, I run a High Powered Nerf Arena in Northern Michigan. We have League Play for our members every weekend. Because of that, many of the member’s blasters get put through the paces on a weekly basis. Due to the wear and tear blasters take while being used that often (which is definitely more than they are really built for) we often recommend this blaster to new members as something that will probably last for a year or longer without replacement parts. The Rival Takedown was our choice to recommend before the Forerunner. The Takedowns last forever! The Forerunner seems to be a mix between the Takedown and the Kronos with the best from both. Something about the bottom prime that is more like a pump and less like a fore grip is super good for longevity. Keeping the strong bottom prime of the Takedown, with the better grip of the Kronos (not to mention the extra internal rounds do come in handy) I think is great. 90% are still cooking with just a little lube after 3 years of parties and member events. With other Rival Blasters you know what will go wrong first. Kronos: Priming handle will detach at the little screws on either side. Perses: One or either switches will need to be replaced Artemis: Will need charging handle pushed all the way forward while firing or else the seal wont be made and it will misfire. Often will misfire or fire 2 rounds at once. All of the Accu-series have also kept their hop up effect better than previous generations. They do in fact seem to be a little more accurate out of the box than other blasters if all are still stock spring. Love your videos. They have helped me so much!
I use only non-electronic and primarily Nerf brand blasters. I have a modified Hades and really can't justify getting anything else Nerf makes. I have about 100 blasters total, but after I got my Hades, I really can't justify getting much more. There's nothing else that really comes close.
Bro love the vids. Keep up the good work
I bought a Forerunner in mid-January. Absolutely love the thing
I bought this blaster and I love it. I consider myself a target shooter. I bought it because it looked cool and wanted to have a blaster that shoots balls, and this is the first one that I saw on walmart that caught my attention.
Another great review from my favorite channel
I have a few Rival blasters that are similar so I didn’t bother to pick this one up. The real star of the show is the Pilot because of how fun it is out of the box but also because of how easy it is to modify.
I added a 3d stock point to mine and a shotgun style stock. Points for looking cool. That’s all I got for this thing
Oh that looks really good, love the design.
As a owner of this blaster here is my personal review. Accuracy: 7/10 Shooting: HARD Fun: 10/10 Comfortably: 9/10 Practically: 8/10 (No sling mounts) OVERALL: 8.5/10 If you are wondering why not buy the Artemis or Apollo over the Forerunner here’s why. The Apollo is has a weird prime and the 12 round mag sticks out too much and it is weak. The Artemis is a pain to reload and is lackluster overall. The emotional response of using the Forerunner is unmatched and it has a smooth prime and is easy to reload while still preforming very well. I hope this helps anyone look into purchasing this blaster. 🧡💙
Love the target stand. IYKYK.
Don't mean to drop the "not everyone is rich" on you Coop, but the Forerunner does go for something like 25 bucks (I think) while I'm pretty sure the Hades runs you 90 dollars on a good day. I imagine a fair share of Nerf's marketshare is parents or uncles or big siblings buying presents for a child, and a whole bunch of them will probably gravitate towards the big, primary-class looking blaster that still leaves them with enough money to buy groceries later that week. A lot of these mid-range options that aren't as compact as sidearms or as powerful as flagships make a lot more sense when you consider there's a whole bunch of children out there whose families just can't afford to buy them the top-of-the-shelf sort of blasters.
Probably one of my favorite rival guns, in terms of looks
Thanks for your review!
I actually really like the forerunner its a takedown, Saturn, and kronos but with 12 rounds. The lack of slamfire is weird because the Saturn had it.
My friend loves the forerunner... he runs a takedown and kronos with k26 in them as his main blasters and the forerunner is basically an upgraded takedown.
Seems like a upgraded version of the takedown, but with EXTRA TACTICS BRO
Didnt mean to be this early but I'm here now and happy about it, loved you since 2016 coop
Dude I’ve just come back I used to watch you back in the day. I never really understood why you always laugh when you review a rival blaster and say “which allows you to push in your balls” and how coming back as an adult I fully understand lol. Keep up the good work dude best nerf KZreadr out there for sure!
I'm convinced that coop made this review specifically for the blue balls line
The only reason I’d take this over the Artemis or the Apollo is because both of those have painfully uncomfortable priming grips
This thing I will say is pretty cool I’m just hoping we’re gonna get more rival blasters that are new some new flywheel blasters and more unique blasters
It feels like an alternative to the Takedown, with the more vertical grip. But I would have liked to see a folding (or removable stock), a top rail (although Rival doesn't really have much to put on a rail) and lips around the loading door to speed up reloads. Have the Forerunner be a more compact Pathfinder for lightweight loadouts, rather than a slightly improved Takedown.
Don't ever forget that some nerfers will choose form over function. If a blaster looks cooler, it takes top spot over one that has better performance, ergo, ammo count or anything else. I won't be buying this but if I wanted a rival blaster like that I would choose this over your other two options because honestly the other options looked pretty eck to me. But this one looks cool and slick.
The Takedown performs much better despite having 4 less rounds in the magazine. The priming grip is better, but there have been aftermarket mods for the Takedown's grip for a while now, and it's not a terrible grip even if you just take it on stock value. The Takedown's also been out longer, so you're more likely to find it in secondhand sources like yard sales, flea markets, and thrift stores.

The artemis and the apollo are out of stock in my country (and shipping from the US is more expensive than the blasters themselves). I think that's a good point to buy the forerunner
Also it actually is the most accurate rival springer I own. I have a plinking range and this thing shoots balls into 3 inch wide holes no problem at 25-30 feet away
I was thinking about getting one of these because I love the takedown. Bummed out by the subpar FPS though.
Wish Rival was still as innovative as it was a couple years ago, and why are we getting slower D:
I'm glad they brought back rival but they really could have done better with this blaster.
tbh i like how the new rival blasters look and they are easier to find
This looks great, just wish the mag port was on the bottom instead. Don’t know how it would work, but it’d be a great shotgun if they ever do it.
i love n strike barrel logs
I have been watching your vids since I got into nerf a few years ago. I advanced to modding and painting and have way too many blasters now. I bought this because it was on sale for 22 bucks and I wanted to check out the molded pump grip. I had to buy one like that for my takedown and was curious about it. the pump feels great but can not be transferred to a takedown unfortunately so I am kinda stuck with a stock forerunner but its the kind of blaster you give to your least favorite friend.
2:13 he talks about how it would be comfortable for a mature person's hands, and i was like "yeah i'm mature" 2:22 and then 10 seconds later, i started laughing at 'blue balls' and realized that i am _not_ as mature as i thought i was.
I would buy this! The reason why is because its not bad, it's still a good blaster. I'm also trying to collect as much Nerf Guns as I can. I will not be using this for Nerf Wars much, but at least its not a Jolt. The Forerunner might have one of the least fire ranges but I know there's other Nerf blasters that are worse than that!
I want a very comfortable to hold "longshot" reskin in the rival or hyper lineup. A shoulder-able rifle with accurate sights, using one of the more accurate nerf rounds. Yes please!
Finally a rival blaster
Just got one of these and it jams constantly. The jam is in the internal mag and mid prime, so the prime release button does not clear it, you have to force it to finish priming. Not fun. To answer coops why buy question, my son wanted it because it was cheap and looks like a shotgun, also he has a couple of those other ones you mention but in casual play with his friends they complain they are too OP, So it's possible he wanted something that wouldn't just automatically dominate for casual play or sharing.
I just got it today bc I was sorta bored, and decided to use my other springers with it today. The pathfinder (love the ergonomics) a Kronos on my hip (because of course you need a Kronos) and a pilot in my back pocket. Now this was 3 guns to compete with the Artemis and Kronos set up my brother had, but tbh I really liked it slung on my back because it's slimmer then the artimis and let me have a few shots here and there to cover me if my primary jammed. And I loved it! Great play experience gave me a bit more capacity then my knockout. The main reason I got it though is because I normally play with my family and my gfs family and I'm the only one who has any guns so I bought it to help balance the teams. Rival is so funny going from my Prometheus or Perces(not sure how to spell it) to manning in a 12 shot springer but yeah anyways it helps me as a fun little addition to a load out if its only 2-4 people and it helps me balance the teams when I need to supply 12 people with guns.

Eh, I just like it cus of its ergonomics. The artamis is a little clunky and awkward, making it difficult to use its slamfire feature, which is why i dont really use it unless close range. That in perspective, if i want something a little smoother with simpler reload, this gun might be a good secondary. As a 'breacher' in most of my nerf play, this gun meets a convenient preference of mine as well as the personal preference of using shotgun (style) blasters.
coop review the pilot, it's actually pretty good
The only use I could think of would be sneaking this into a pistols only round? Which maybe give it a better argument without slam fire
I bought it cause it looked and felt good. Also I live in Canada and shipping a swift or something that hits like a truck is too expensive, $500 CAD + per
lmao coop when he says blue balls!
Would the weight of the blaster being reviewed be an interesting bit of information to display (probably with batteries if applicable)? Might give clearer indication as to if it might tire you out if used extensively.
"Drop an existentialism on a piece of plastic" lmaoooooo
idk but maybe a black shooting target would help with visibilty at the range... just an idea
COOP772 and SALLYISADOG turn dart blasters into MW2 meta guns
also please do a review on the barrel break IX-2
Happy Frank made a blue balls joke. Let's get this weekend started son!
Hey coop, for a video idea, why not do an updated series overview of the first and better elite line. Yeah I don’t think there were that many new blasters since the first vid, but still.
So it's essentially a nerf Chaperone. That's pretty fun.
0:19 just a standard unboxing… Oh wait…he said WHAT again??! 🤣
The balls joke never gets old
Hey frank, what are your thoughts on a dual nightingale load out?
Never had a Nerf war outside of my basement. I have a 5 1/2 year old and several nephews/nieces so most of our battles are Nerf Elite speeds. Right now our Rival blasters are just for blinking/target practice. Same with pro level blasters we have. The forerunner is solid for target practice. I like the ergo of our Saturn or Takedown more though. If I was going to HVZ I would take the Artemis over the Forerunner.
Are the Artemis or Apollo really available at this point? At least at my local stores I haven't seen them or the Kronos in a really long time.
I will NEVER not laugh or smile at “There’s no N-Strike barrel lug” or “There IS an N-Strike Barrel lug”
It’s the kind of gun I’ll buy if I find it at a second hand store for $5 like how I got my Apollo
Could/are you going to review the pilot?
it works as a shotgun style thing but it looks like a pistol like in ultimate hellsing(a vampire anime) or gun grave or something similar looks like they'd be dual wielded with the recoil of a Glock but hit with the power of either a Barret or ww1 artillery
Can you review the Spyra water guns.
Great Review! I think I'm a sucker for the color scheme but the $27 price tag keeps me away this time. My advice to anyone, wait for a sale.
