Review: Lotus Everest Fountain Pen in Blue Stardust
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
A few months ago, I bought this Lotus Everest fountain pen, made with a Conway Stewart arcylic called Blue Stardust, and I've been enjoying it enough that I thought I'd better finally put together a video about it.
This fountain pen uses a JoWo nib rather than the more common (in India) Kanwrite, and it comes with a Schmidt cartridge converter. This pen is wonderful all around.

I saw my first Lotus pen last month, an ebonite Dodeca. Stunning large pen with a No. 8 nib. Very well made. Nice to see another model also well made.

I noticed in one of your recent videos that you mentioned that Dodeca; that was one of the things that prompted me to finally make this video... I had intended too earlier, but got bogged down with ink videos instead. Don't think that I mentioned it to you, but I'm heading to Japan in a couple of weeks... I'll be there for about a month. Looking forward to checking out all of the Tokyo stationery and pen shops!

@@thewetpen. Enjoy Japan. I was there for a few weeks in the late 70s. Bought some pens! Traveled around. Carried some vintage with me. They were my EDC back then.
Quality of This Indian Writing Instrument is Impeccable! gives you joy on and on in your ownership
Another well balanced review! No hype nothing else! Please review some other Indian brands like Woodex, PLP, Vazir, Mohi etc. Lotus & Ranga are enough known but I think the other brands I mentioned also make very good pens at very reasonable prices.

I'm familiar with Vazir, but not the others.... thanks! Actually, this is going to be an expensive comment.

@@thewetpen haha, Actually I love to see more homegrown products & how they create perception into the west. As the west is full of some brilliant brands. Before Independence our fountain pen industry was very rigid. Full of inventions, full of originals. Right now it's again returning & I am lucky that somehow I am a part of this renaissance:) thanks a lot.
Thanks for introducing me to wonderful world of Indian pens. -Sarav from Berlin

Wow what a beautiful pen...we need some lotus pens in the states to join our collections.
Very beautiful…conjures up high snowy mountains and stars…and I love the Lotus name and emblem ❤
I've been waiting for this! That CS "Stardust" material is absolutely stunning! Cheers!
I like that it comes with ebonite. It is certainly worth considering. Thanks for the very comprehensive review.
It's beautiful!
Stunning pen! I've now added Lotus to the growing list of pens that I'd like to try. It would be nice to know how you like the pen after using it for a few months. Thanks for the thorough review!

Thanks Beth :-) I actually ordered this pen last September, and have been using it pretty regularly since early October, so I'd be surprised if my opinion changes much at this point, but I'll certainly post an update if it does!
Great honest review of this pen which I own along with 2 Shikhar 1 in blue ebonite,the other in wood grain effect ebonite & a Shikhar large in honey dew celluloid all beautiful handcrafted pens.

Wow... that's quite a collection. I've been curious about that honeydew celluloid... I don't know what it looks like, but I like the name. Going to have to look it up, now 🙂
Nice one, thanks!
I love Lotus pens too.
That material is lovely! I'll have to consider this if I want another pen in this price range. I'm being more intentional with my pen purchases this year. Or at least, that's the hope. 😅 Thanks for the great review. :)

My pleasure! I'm buying fewer pens now, too...though I'm going to Japan in a couple of weeks, so we'll see how long that lasts.
I’ve had my eye on a couple of the lotus pens. I’m going to have to pull the trigger at some point.

Hey Dustin! So far so good with this one. I really want that "Storm" that briefly appears in the video, too... but I'm heading to Japan in a couple of weeks, so I'm not buying any Indian pens until I get back (and my finances recover).
Thanks so much for this review! I've been really interested in buying a Lotus pen for the last few months, but hadn't seen enough to make a decision. Do you happen to know what the measurements of the section are (just below threads for max, just before flare for min)? Lotus provides some info for some pens, but their descriptions can seem a bit vague at times.

I'm afraid that I don't have any calipers handy, but from my ruler, it looks like it tapers from 13mm to 11mm. That's just a ruler, though... could be way off.

@@thewetpen No worries, that’s helpful! My current plan is to have an Everest or similar Lotus Pens model made with a section threaded for Bock #8 nibs to swap in a Magna Carta #8 or an Sailor KoP nib in a FNF KoP-to-Bock 380 adapter housing. Identifying the Everest’s chonk and how steep the section change is (although I’m sure Lotus could customize that, too) plays a part in the decision. Thanks again for the review, and keep up the great work!
That's one beautiful pen. And the box and case too. You sure love Indian pens. How did you get introduced to Indian pens, and became so interested?

Thanks! The quick answer is that my girlfriend is Indian. The slightly longer answer is in the first video of my series about Indian inks: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKGr3KqgdqbblM4.html
How does the grip size compare with the Jinhao X159? I've been eyeing one of these for a while.
@thewetpen
Жыл бұрын
They're pretty similar. Looking at them side by side, the x159 grip tapers a little less, so it's a bit larger at the nib end (about 1mm), but at the thread end, they're about identical. Also, the x159 grip is pretty short, so the Everest grip is about 3 or 4mm longer.

There are some wonderful fountain pen companies based in India, though some pens have a little more... character than others. It's a really fun market to explore.
I have got a click aristocrat and it's the best fountain pen I have ever used. Note - I am broke can't afford expensive pens

Nothing wrong with an affordable fountain pen. I have some Jinhao X350, X450, X850, and 80 pens, all under $10 that I adore. There are great pens on every price range 😊
I just purchased this one: 1 x CS Special LE Fountain Pen by PSP/Lotus - Conway Stewart Emerald, JoWo #6 nibs (New in Box) JoWo 6 - Steel and Gold MEDIUM - Gold Tone Steel How did I do? I still consider myself a newbie. Lisa

@@thewetpen I use my pens for letter writing, so a broad nib is way to big for my handwriting and the french ruled paper I use for practice.
Which Indian brand you would suggest ranga or lotus or asa?
@thewetpen
Жыл бұрын
They're all excellent pens. I'd say that Lotus makes the best pens, but you'll pay for it. Ranga gives you the most flexibility and choice, and they're excellent quality... probably best bang for your buck. The ASA Nauka is probably the most unique pen design.

@@thewetpen Because the price difference between lotus and ranga is not much! So I was wondering whether ranga is worth the price!
@thewetpen
Жыл бұрын
@@geminiman2831 Well... if any hand-made pen is worth the money, then Ranga pens are, but you're paying for something that is hand made. You can get cheaper Chinese pens that write just as well, and that might look just as good (that's a matter of taste). That's up to you. For a standard sized pen, I like the Abhimanu. I only have tried 3 Ranga models, though... the Abhimanyu, the Abhimanyu Grand, and the Giant 9B.

€150 in a fountain pen sounds like a lot. It's nice to see all the packaging but I'd rather have an option to get it half price without the box & such. Just my opinion.
@thewetpen
Жыл бұрын
In the Indian market, the packaging probably only accounts for 2-5 dollars of that price... certainly not half. But I agree; as much as I like a good box or sleeve when I get one, I'd rather just have the pen at a lower price.
