    Please don't stop doing these videos, pit stops will help with rating. You have the best quality reviews. Taping tires, painting bodies, reviewing after market esc motor combos. Break cars on purpose is always a crowd favorite. Looking forward to seeing your next review

    I've had three of these over the years...great little truck. The most recent Savage XS release (the Fun Haver green/grey version) comes with pin style tires, so at least they updated that issue. Other than those tires, I love the HPI Yokohama Geolander tires...huge upgrade.

    Just got myself one of these ( Vaughn Gittin Jr Edition ) with 2 3s 5000mah 60c lipos for $600 all brand new. Absolutely been loving it and plenty fast. I clocked 94kmh. Far beyond enough speed but what makes it crazy is that accelaration. The new tryes are great aswell. Very similar to the ones you have in the video. Overall I rate it a 8.8 out of 10. While I haven't broken it or nothing has been damaged. Still looks like new. I can see some areas that may need replacing or upgrading. Beast of a truck though, especially for the prices it can be had for now.

    Aftermarket part support is very thin. Even aftermarket premounted wheels and tyres can be a pain to find. If it is with the same electronics that I have, it might need a longer motorcan or ventillation on the stock one, since it gets even on 2s on stock gearing very very hot.

    Ian Enciso me as well it's why I'm selling all my HPI collection. Either hard to find parts or non existent at the moment or over priced. I've got a Vorza Flux awesome 1/8 buggy but I need a front bulkhead piece it's simple piece but can't find stocknofnit anywhere it's all back ordered. Then my bullet Flux parts are expensive for this truck so I'll sell it as is as parts or use it for a winter beater. Too bad I used to love HPI. I'm more unfortunately a Traxxas guy now because of parts availablility but I've still got my Tekno 1/8 buggy and Associated and kyosho 1/10 buggies which are great rc well built and parts are available

    I'd highly recommend getting the cvd driveshafts for the front, the factory dogbones cannot handle turning under power at all (I went through about 3 pairs) and a better set of links as the stock ones pop off often, the cvd driveshafts and links pretty much eliminate this trucks only major week points.

    Had one of these. And the electrics, in mine at least, were rebranded Castle Creations. You could plug it in to the Field Link/Card and tune it if you wanted. Now, that might have changed recently? I don't know that. Been a year or so since I had it. And yes, the stock tires absolutely sucked. I got a nice wheel/tire set from Duratrax, and never looked back.

  • @AussieRCPlayground

    @AussieRCPlayground

    6 жыл бұрын

    David Mathay You are correct that it once had Castle electrics, but it now comes with a Hobbywing combo. The Hobbywing ESCs are easier to program and you don’t need to carry around a laptop. But above all, is the fact that the motor doesn’t overheat, which was an issue previously (so I’ve been told).

  • @davidmathay7117

    Castle had the Field Card too. No laptop needed. And yup, it did like to overheat. Especially when running 3S power. I never saw to real need to run more than 2S in mine. It was ballistic enough! LOL!

    No, never reviewed it. When you have cars like the Typhon, Hyper VS and Bushmaster all capable of the same speeds and durability, you have to ask yourself why pay 50% more for the Vorza. Just not worth the $900 it sells for. Just my opinion, anyway.

    Ooof, this was overdue! Lol, good review as always. But I do feel like there's so many other smaller-size 1/10th scale trucks that are out now, that have kind of antiquated this thing however. For the same price, you can get much better platforms, with standard 3-differential drive-train setups, that end up being more capable over rougher terrain. Not to mention, easier to work on.

    So it breaks parts, they're difficult to change out, and parts availability for HPI is atrocious. It took Metro 3+ months to get my Vorza diff case, and I'm still waiting for the Trophy steering arm I ordered. I get that smaller, overpowered trucks are fun for a bit, but isn't that why you got rid of your brushless Teton? This thing seems more fragile than a mini E-Revo, that has MUCH better parts support.

  • @AussieRCPlayground

    @AussieRCPlayground

    6 жыл бұрын

    “Much better part support”? Are you joking? I can assure you Traxxas is getting harder to get parts for every day. And no, it’s not as bad as a Mini E-Revo, it’s far better. I’ve had to fix about a dozen of them in the 8 months I’ve been at Metro and they’re just as hard, if not harder to work on. And after seeing how fragile they are, I wouldn’t own one of those if you paid me. HPI part support is getting better with every shipment the supplier receives, it’s just a shame they went through a parts drought last year while they were setting up for new releases and preparing to relaunch the brand after they were bought by Ripmax (or whoever). Did you actually see the type of driving I was doing and the punishment I put the XS through in order to blow the diff? I actually had to really try and break it for anything to fail on it. Come on man, look at the running videos and get you facts straight. Also, I didn’t get rid of my Teton because it broke, I got rid of it because I needed the money at the time. I never actually broke it after going brushless, thank you very much. And the Teton was never build with brushless power in mind and didn’t handle all the great once I changed it, which also another reason I sold it. But certainly not because it broke. Sounds to me you’re just hating on this truck out of spite.

  • @lsear2905

    @lsear2905

    Aussie RC Playground Woah! Why would I hate it out of spite? I love my HPI vehicles. I know everyone's experience varies, but I've had 2 of them shelved for loooong periods waiting for parts, as you well know. FWIW, you've probably repaired 8 MERVs (and I'm not suggesting they're a strong reliable RC by any stretch of the imagination) because you sell at least 8 times as many of them at Metro, and they're smashed around on 3S at unforgiving skate parks, which Traxxas stupidly encourage in their advertising. Cheers

  • @AussieRCPlayground

    @AussieRCPlayground

    6 жыл бұрын

    Nope, we certainly haven’t sold 8 times as much as many Mervs as I’ve repaired, in fact, I usually discourage people from buying those things. Most of the ones we sell are from online purchases, actually. We currently have a Mini Summit awaiting repair since Christmas last year because we can’t get parts for it. Goes to show how reliable Traxxas parts support is at the moment. And how crap that mini platform is.

  • @lsear2905

    @lsear2905

    6 жыл бұрын

    I think the flaw with any truck that's in this class (smaller than 1/10, but overpowered) is going to have issues. Your experience at Metro obviously outweighs mine when it comes to parts, but having just rebuilt a MERV (usual story, cheap car from a 17yo that had beaten it) I was able to get every part I needed immediately... and yes, I'm not a fan of the 1/16 platform, but it's a fun little car. Meanwhile Metro have struggled to get parts for my HPIs. I know that's not their fault, but it's fact. Just curious, what part for a Mini Summit are you waiting on?
