I think the term “robot vacuums” is now officially obsolete. That’s because these devices that started out as simple vacuums have evolved into multipurpose cleaning centres that can now vacuum, mop, clean themselves and empty dirty water, plus dump out their own dustbins. One of the newest floor cleaning centres is the ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI. ECOVACS is sponsoring this post and has provided me with a test unit to review in my home. Even so, they have not told me what I have to say or what I can’t say about this bot, so in my review I’ll tell you what it can do, how well I think it works, about its special features and if I think it could be a good investment for you.
ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI: What’s new:
• 3D mapping
• Emptying & refilling
• Dual scrubbing mopping plates
• Heated auto-drying
• Designer look
• Yiko built in voice assistant
ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI: What you get
The ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI has two main components: the dual vacuum and mopping robot, plus the OMNI station or base station. Let’s get a closer look…
The bot is about standard robot vacuum size. It’s got a roller brush underneath, and two corner brushes you’ll need to snap on when you unbox it. The design is a bit new, with a pretty brushed silver cover that lifts right off to reveal the onboard dustbin. The water tank in this bot is not visible or accessible… but that’s ok because your base station is going to take care of that for you.
The mop has been redesigned… gone is the one-piece floating plate with cloth, and in its place are two detachable round pads with little microfibre cloths that attach securely with special velcro. This new mopping format is designed to scrub, not just wipe…
There’s a camera on the front… and we’ll get to more on both that and the improved mopping shortly.
OMNI station: charging, cleaning, refilling
The OMNI Station is a tall drink of water; yes it’s quite large and you’re definitely going to need a dedicated place to put it, near a plug and with enough space for the bot to back in and out.
Under the lid on the OMNI station here are three things, a clean water tank, a dirty water tank, a little storage drawer for brushes, extra mopping pads and vacuum bags; this is a thoughtful detail I appreciate so everything can stay on one place. The vacuum bag bin is now a small drawer in the front of the OMNI station.
Overall the designers at ECOVACS have done a great job here; the unit is a little more attractive than some other similar products. And everything is thoughtfully accessible.
Getting started with ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI
To get things started you will need the ECOVACS app where you’ll sign into or sign up for an account then add your robot. This takes just seconds and I was ready to clean in less than a minute.
The first order of business is to map your home. Getting a map will allow your bot to recognize rooms and spaces, avoid furniture and obstacles, and to manage room-by-room cleaning schedules.

Since it has lidar, does it run at early morning or late at night, when it's 80% darker in the house, no lights on... or does it require bright rooms like many others?
It’s even better then my deebot T9 . I wish it was sold in Brazil.
Is there a way to send the X1 to a room to clean by using the map in the app as you desire and not on a schedule or do you have to use Yiko.

Amazing review! Thank you so much! It seems it can't wash mop cloth by itself which is what i need because i'm super lazy. LOL! Can you compare them and give me some suggestions?

I'll definitely be doing a comparison. Video coming soon.
Can you tell it to mop rugs? Like you wouldn’t want to take off the mops every time you want to vacuum and mop if you have one rug and rest hard floors
hey mate , what if it had already learnt the map .... but then i wanted to change the base station to another part of the house ? (where the map is also learnt). Do i have to do the entire set up again ? or would it just know the new base station's location automatically? thanks!
@ErinLawrenceTV
Жыл бұрын
If you move the base station, you need to regenerate the map. Because the map stores the location of the original base station it gets very confused if you move it. Fortunately, remapping doesn’t take very long.
How would you say it was compared to the narwal that you reviewed?
So it doesn't sweep and then mop right behind it? You have to send it out on separate sweeping and mopping missions?
Lovely device, this one competes against the Roborock S7 Ultra which does not dry the mops and could result in filthy odors over time. I am wondering how reliable would be the "hidden" water tank over time. I guess only time will say, but maybe an extended warranty would be a good idea to have on a quite expensive device. My Roomba 980 is due for an upgrade so I guess I might pull the trigger. Nice review, a new subscriber over here from Switzerland!

@@jimwu7612 But here is the 'real world' scenario problem.. I'd like to have my house ENTIRELY taken care when not home.. but with this setup IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!(???) That is .. in order for my kitchen to be moped properly, don't I need first to vacuum it? That means to remove all particles before getting into mopping.. and that means, if I'm not home.. ... than what? or.. maybe I'm not understanding.. let me explain - my kitchen is hard floor, no carpet.. so.. can I just run 'entire' thing (what I mean vacuum plus mop pads on it), and when returned home both were done on this hard floor (as my understanding is I need to remove mop pads while on carpet)... In any case, it means that if I like to vacuum my TV (with carpet) room and vacuum and mop my kitchen it cannot be done in one cycle when not home as there is nobody to take those mop pads for me like on Roborock.. :(.. Yet they are priced the same... to bad. as I love design finding it rather ugly and somewhat 'junky' look on Roborock.

Well @jimwu7612 either you do your TV room separately or get a maid as you cannot ask for much more than it already does and roborock doesn't have spinning pads it has a pad that vibrates and keeps dragging your dirt around where this actually scrubs it washes them and dries them to keep everything sanitary as well as mildew and mold free but hey there's always a maid lol
so it can not lift the pads and continue on carpets, so it is not really that smart does it? (I suggest waiting for the next gen - water is very corrosive and it will have lots of problems)

Interesting question… I haven’t tried running it while not connected to Wi-Fi, but I would assume that you could simply press the button on the robot to start and stop it. If for some reason your Wi-Fi was down. Is your Wi-Fi intermittent? Or you want to take it somewhere else to use it?
Can it map different floors? How about the stairs?
I am torn between Ecovacs x1 omni and the Roborock s7 maxv ultra. Both seems to have similar features. The X1 omni looks better and can dry the pads automatically, has child lock button but the S7 maxv ultra has the slightly stronger sunction power and better navigation (based on some reviews). What cleaning solution can you use in the mopping water? The manual states to use ecovacs cleaning solution but this isn't available in North America. I have been using a different brand of robot floor cleaner ( one approved by iRobot, yes Bona: amzn.to/3IP73GO .) it works great and I have not noticed any ill affects.
7:15, Do you have to take mop pads off to vacuum carpet every time? I thought it had a hot air dry system, waht's the point of drying pads if you have to take them off to vacuum? Having to manually pull the pads on and off every time you want to switch between vacuuming and mopping makes the auto-ness of the dock useless.
Hello there, can enyone tell me what the measurements are?
The design here is top notch, however having to swap out the mopping pads to switch modes is a deal breaker. Kind of a disappointment they couldn’t have added a mopping pad lift

The cons: doesnt raise mopping pads. Has trouble identifying black furniture (table/chair legs). There are app issues such as constant reloads for maps to be visable. small home maps require more and less intuitive input from user for creation. However, if you are okay with learning the workarounds and limitations it does a damn fine job. Especially since the device can have 3 maps.
Love this vacuum, I currently have the Robo Rock vacuum and it works pretty well . I’d switch to the Omni vacuum but the docking station is too large for my home at the moment.

When the rorbot passed the coffe on the floor you get all that in your brushes... now you got these brushes with wet coffe going over your floors and carpets i would not like that at all...
I bought one of these for £1300 - a complete waste of money. 3 months later it as sat in the corner of my kitchen, completely non-functional. The main brush on it is cheap plastic tat that falls to bits after a few weeks. You can’t replace the brush without spending £30 on a “buddy kit” which contains loads of other stuff which won’t have worn out yet - filters, dust bags etc - the brush supplied in the buddy kit failed after 3 days. I then spent 6 weeks trying to get a response out of their hopeless customer support team. The device then started behaving erratically, stopping 10 minutes into a program and complaining of multiple non-existent issues. The x1 Omni isn’t a bad vacuum - it’s just a brand new item, released with beta software and a support program incapable of actually providing support. Unfortunately these two issues render it useless after a couple of months and when you’ve spent over £1000 on a unit that leaves a pretty poor taste in your mouth. Avoid like the plague

If you have ANY small transition in your home's floors, such as between tile and wood floors or even between two different wood floors, then the robot is useless. They claim it can transition between heights of up to 2cm (3/4 inch) but that's ONLY if the mopping pads are removed, the mopping tank is empty, and the angle at the transition is 15 degrees or less in angle. So in most homes the robot becomes completely useless.

How unfortunate that it doesn't vacuum carpets when the mopping pads are installed... It does everything else automatically, but having to attach and remove the mopping pads kind of ruins it all. It would be so much smarter if it could do carpets with the mopping pads installed - but of course only after it has dried and heated the mopping pads, so that it doesn't wet the carpets.
