Review: DOUK AUDIO T8 Pro 7-BAND Equalizer!

Ойын-сауық

IT'S NOT CHI-FI... IT'S-FUN FI! I review the DOUK T8 PRO 7-Band EQ! It's super affordable and fun! It's not perfect but it might fill in the gaps in your system! Retraction: I mistaken referred to the T8 as a parametric EQ, a helpful subscriber set me straight. It is a volumetric EQ. Knowledge is power!

It's early in the morning and the wife is still sleeping I picked up my phone in bed and watched your video with closed captions and the sound off. I was thoroughly entertained and enlightened. Love the content and humor! You make hifi, lowfi, midfi and funfi feel like it's mifi (TM)!

I always thought the EQ's WITH the spectrum display was more of an 80s thing because all of the EQ's I saw from the 70s had only those sliders but i digress. I will say this...that EQ with said spectrum display was a must-have in the 80s which was my decade. No stereo rack or pieced-together system was complete without that EQ with the dancing lights...it was a helluva fun decade for me. I can recall my Kenwood rack stereo from late-1990, which was their flagship model at that time, cost me well over $1650 clams to get it, had that EQ & display built into their control amplifier, and it was mesmerizing to behold. The power amplifier had moving red lights as well. When I turned it all on it reminded me of what the cockpit of a TIE fighter would look like. It did not need a subwoofer at all. I'm surprised that I retained my hearing. And it came with a cabinet and remote! 😜 No...I did not keep it and that's a regret. However I did manage to find all of the necessary model numbers for all 5 components and the tower speakers, so one day I just may decide to get it all back, but that's just me. I've been scouting modern EQ's lately including a rather unique one by Bellari called the SE560 Sonic Exciter, and their more recent 4-band EQ570. I love their trademark fire engine red color on both units. I've also been looking at the Schiit Loki Mini+ which is a 4-band EQ as well. However, the Douk Audio EQ, thanks to this video, has been added to my short list of 4 considerations. Decisions...Decisions....😜

Back in the 70’s I had the soundcraftmens eq. Those were the days, (yeah old man here). I borrowed a white noise generator, a scope and a microphone, and with that eq, set my speakers to flat for the room. Never touched the EQ again, if I wanted to tweak I had Bass, Mid, and Treble controls on the ol’ Sansui.

Fun-Fi! Love it! And Talking Heads Movie/Live! I was listening the other night on the Zu's... The Fun-Fi Speakers on the old Sansui 4000! These EQ's are fantastic, I have a Lokius sitting here and I think I am going to plunk down a few bucks for another pair of Blue Jean TT cables and put the little Schiit into action with the Mofi SD TT. And this is the reason I love the WiiM products, that 10 band EQ, it just takes that inexpensive streamer to new levels. I turned my buddy Ed onto the WiiM, he just bought the EverSolo Streamer... He loves the WiiM Pro! He said he will keep the EverSolo for the VU meters... I think he was pissed. ;-)

FWIW ... that is not a parametric equalizer. It is a volumetric equalizer. The difference is that in a parametric EQ the centre frequencies of the bands are also adjustable. That is... each band has a Level and Frequency adjustment. If Douk had not shoehorned a pair of tubes into their design, I might have bought one.

I bought both the T8's and liked them both sound wise, for the money can overlook some of the build quality. The 5 band I kept and sent the 7 band back because it's tubes are just to hard to get hold of in my country other then the China tubes which I do not like so much, but the 5 band can roll many brands of tubes, and yes even though the both use 9 pin tubes the 7 band just cannot play other tubes outside of 6H1N-BN which seem to limit any rolling. That said if they made a 7 band using the default 5 band tubes 6N3 I would buy one instantly as that lower bass is nice for my subs.

Good review!I have been using T8 Pro for three months. It's fun and i enjoy it. And I just discovered an incredible flaw in it today!(My source is PC, using XLR output for active speakers)If you set the left channel volume of your PC's volume balance to 0. Then play a song and you will hear a very small sound coming from the left channel...but it shouldn't be!Is this a special case? or is it an internal design problem of T8?

Tip: Wth a 31 band eq, if you adjust 3 sliders at the same time it will save time and then make fine adjustments for the master. That said, I put a Douk NS:10-10P in the last position on the fx send and back into the return of a fender mustang. For all my adjusting I had to do using the 15 band, the Douk 2 band EQ for this solid state guitar amp was enough, and the resulting audio from the 12" Celestion was plenty warmer. So I matched the 15 band Behringer EQ up to my Douk HiFi system, which will do the same thing as this really, but with 8 more bands, With Veteran Teac speakers. Yum. I bought one of these ^^^, to run mics through. I listened to some old school stuff without all the heavy compression in FLAC format recorded off someone's turn table. We are lucky we people back then who would waste time on setting up a 31 band eq. For the money, these valve devices certainly give solid state a run for its money.

Audio products made in "Ghina" and "Ghia-Fi" are the foundations to MAFA. Also, a reference to Monty Python's "I Like Chinese" would not have been inappropriate. But that's all good. Have you tested with different tubes? DOUK AUDIO T8 Pro uses the 6H1N-BN is actually 6Н1П-ВИ Soviet tubes. After some research I found some info on the Lampizator website (they are boutique audiophile company from Poland) and their sound engineers say that basically there are 3 versions of this tube: 1. 6Н1П - standard; 2. 6Н1П-ВИ - prolonged life and durability, "impulse mode" intended use (this is the one used in T8 PRO but Lampizator said that from all 3 models this is to be avoided for audio purposes); 3. 6Н1П-EВ - even more prolonged life and durability (about 5000 hours) plus lowest noise. Seems like the premium option almost at the same price. So in my understanding the overall quality will only improve if the tubes are replaced with higher model (which is almost the same price) 6Н1П-ВИ --> 6Н1П-EВ (). Other suggestions to experiment with in terms of valves?

EQ devices were originally developed for recording, to control parts of the incoming signals that may have been slightly exaggerated (the same way the digital EQ in DAWs are used today). They made the translation into people's living rooms originally with the idea they would be used as a form of room correction... set and forget style. They can also be a horrific rabbit hole device... I had one client who had a book with hundreds of songs listed along with the slider settings for his 24 band EQ ... waiting for that dude to play a song was just tedious in the extreme.
