i think hes winding down as the writting is in the wall about electric and autonomy. The dull depressing future that awaits is gonna be crushing to enthusiasts. He said it here in the video, soon to be replaced by electric. It almost seems by his mood and demeanor that hes read a sad article about the future of cars before he made the video.

Just moved from an F80 to a G80 and Chris is unbelievably on point when he said it has lost a lot of character but really makes up for it in capability. The generational leap has never been bigger. I will miss the insanity of the F80, but in the same way I do not miss the insanity of a crazy ex girlfriend. Growing up can be sad and beautiful at the same time.

Beautifully spoken . I came from an f82 and now own a g80 and it’s exactly how you described . I grew up , I have a kid .. I kinda enjoy the comfort and “niceness” of the g80 compared to the f82 .

A little late to the party but couldn’t agree more. I have a 4 month old and felt the visceral feeling of the f80 was too much and I quickly realized my tastes had changed. The f80 had the smell of ethanol, the smell of the catless down pipes, the obnoxiously loud r888r tires, and the loud exhaust. But I’ve been stock on the g80 for a month now and I certainly don’t miss the insanity of my ex in the slightest. If anything, I find more pleasure now in how the car is in stock form.

Chris Harris on Cars is one of the best things that has ever happened to automotive journalism. Simply fantastic!

Top gear hasn't been a real car show since it's relaunch in the early noughties. At least it's got somebody who actually knows what he's talking about now. Chris is fantastic. My favourite.

What he did never mention : 2021 M3 weight : 3840 lbs , thats almost 400 lbs of extra added weight compared to its previous model ( 2020 M3 weight 3490 lbs ) so the new M3 its extremely heavy

The design is a shocking mess. I like to give all cars the benefit of the doubt, but here there is no doubt. And it's not just the grille. The rest of the front is equally bad, and as Chris points out there is no coherence what so ever. I can't imagine what is going on at BMW for them to sign off on this. It's fucked.

so it's a let down by the ZF (instead of DCT), and the engine feels like a more powerful M340i, otherwise the steering and handling are a lot better even though it weighs at ~1730kg, and, may mean something more significant for some people, with a bit less personality comparing with F8X - that’s how i’d summarize Chris’ comment

He’s right that all the tension has gone out of the design. Very strange. I think it wouldn’t take much to sort out the current generation of mistakes however. That front grille could look alright with a clean-up of the angles and better integration, so as to carve out a 3D snout (think Chiron front grille).

My favourite Chris video ever was his “a 320d is all you ever need”… also, back to the last gen the only reviewer to put engine etc in sport plus but keep the dampers in comfort. As it should be… legend.

Man this car makes me love my E92 so much more. This car just doesn’t look, sound or seem special. Dropping 5k on interior carbon bits doesn’t make it feel special sorry

In my view, why would you get a manual when power is at these levels? If you want a fun manual, buy a regular 911 manual

@@teamracing07 Why would you NOT want a manual? The GT3 already proved high power manuals are effective. Plus the bigger reason is the 8 speed torque converter auto. It's not as good of a transmission as the DCT and too smooth and a bit slower. The manual seems better engineered for the car here since it's been reworked apparently and the manual car weighs less and has less hp. Plus the manual is always more fun and rewarding to drive.

Still a huge mistake with the styling of the new range. I think the M2 was the best looking BMW I've seen to date.

Im a guy with both an M4 and a Tesla so I'm basically better placed than any person to comment, it's all about preference. As a daily driver, don't have to hear the engine drown on in traffic, instant torque is more helpful is always the faster car in and around town driving, autopilot in the traffic leaves you far less tired, in that respect the Tesla is a far better car than my M4. As a car I want to have fun in, rip around bends, rev to 7500rpm for the heck of it, take it out occasionally on a cruise, the M4 is a far better car. So what's my point? It depends what you are looking for. A daily driver or a car for the weekends and fun. Or better yet, get both like me haha

@@supaahflyy 2 very nice cars sir, what he's saying though is he doesn't want to be forced to just drive electric. That will probably be the future. You yourself, as an M4 owner must be disappointed with that option, as you have it now?? Enjoy.

@@tim3437 Ahh yeh the UK regulations and all. Im in Australia and lets just say we have dinosaurs in Government. They dont even have any incentives to buy electric infact here in Victoria, its going to be first state in the world taxing electric cars haha. So that paints a picture of how slowly our 'transition' away from petrol cars to electric cars is going. Unfortunately the UK government for you guys is much faster and only has 9 years of selling new petrol cars. I think it would be awesome/wise to keep a hold of your favourite petrol cars after 2030. Can only imagine they appreciate in value too

@@tim3437 that is the MAIN problem with electric cars, politics force people to drive them. If we would just keep several drivetrains, no one would hate on electric cars, trust me. All i know is autonomous cars are coming fast, and that will be a problem for a lot of people.

Spot on about the looks as compared to the F80 (it’s even more striking when you compare the G82 with the outgoing coupe). Amazing to drive though - more controlled than its predecessor and mind blowingly quick. But you should be required to take a test to qualify for the RWD version.

Geez I thought the only issue with the design I had was the grill. I didn't know about all the other things they did. It's aweful.

As usual, Chris nails it! "Car is mostly amazing, handles great, lucky you're inside the car so you don't have to look at it.."

People said the same about the F30/80 when they were released. Prior gen 3 are the best looking cars BMW ever made.

Sum of it's parts can still work.

This car is a classic case of the design department having created perfection in the F-series realised that they HAD to create something or they would be out of a job. Its just the same as when the handbrake was perfected and the handbrake department decided to invent the electric handbrake to stay in work.

His name is Domagoj Dukec and has been lead design since 2019, he's still employed unfortunately. Yet another person who comes into a new job and thinks they need to change things (often for the worse) just to justify being there.

@@jassimaltoki3580 I have driven many a m3.... my favourite is the e92 m3.....they generally are all a great car as they should be given what they are an 'm' series model. i would just like more negative comments from Chris where valid but all good. like to me the sound in the cabin and from outside the car didn't sound special at all , at least from a video point of view. anywaya all good .

Been interested in cars my whole life but I don't know mutch about them other than looks. Harris is exeptional at conveying information so it makes sense to one who dosn't know mutch about cars. I haven't watched one episode of Top Gear since the OG three quit but discovered Harris on YT and he makes me want to start watching Top Gear again. He's damn good at his job!

dont know who you are but remember you from the porsche vs bmw vs amg black series shoot out video. Loved that video. Wish they would just strip cars down to lower weight

although I own an e46, I believe the best looking 3 series is the e92.

I actually wonder why people are so mad about front grill design... It's BMW's traditional front grill from the early days of the company and this design IS back to the roots... And I Love it...

Didnt even mention that you can get it in a manual. Thats the best part!
