    You can also use this tuner with any vertical antenna whips like the CHA SS17 with some proper radials or elevated counterpoises! Having the coupler at the feed point will actually base load the antenna like a loading coil thus eliminating coax losses! Imagine having one of those on the side of your rooftop or at the top of the PORTA-MAST - it will give you a tuned vertical at all frequencies all the time!

    Nice review, thank you!! What was the worse impedance mismatch for which it was able to correct? In other words, what was the highest SWR you saw before it was corrected as seen by the transceiver, e.g., 4:1, 5:1, etc.? TIA

    Hi. Nice presentation. Questions : 1- Is the wingnut on the front panel for ground connection ? 2- What is the loss (dB) added by this tuner ? No one hardly ever mention this. We should know. Tuning is one thing. Transmitting is another thing... A live test would be great. Thank you.

    The user manual on the Chameleon site covers the detail; wingnut on top beehive connector is for a wire antenna, wingnut on bottom left corner for grounding. As I have a full time job and a life away from my KZread channel, I can't cover every possible question; i.e., loss. It seems you have a passion and interest; I'd encourage you to pursue it and offer up your take on the subject and specific gear, via your own KZread video.

    @@SteveW6SJK The mAT-40 HF-SSB Automatic Antenna Tuner, lets you rapidly tune any antenna automatically: unbalanced or single-wire. It can be operated by various brands of transmitters by selecting different interface cables, such as ICOM, YAESU, and KENWOOD, just like their own brand tuners. The tuner housing is produced by aluminum milling and oxidation surface technology, beautiful, delicate, compact and firm. ''It can work well in all kinds of harsh outdoor environments.'' The maximum size of the tuner is only 20 cm, ''which is the smallest outdoor antenna tuner now.'' The mAT-40 also features advanced memory tuning, providing 16000 memory locations. When tuning near a previously used frequency it will recall the settings for nearly instant tuning. It learns your favorite frequencies and bands as you use it. You can also start a tuning cycle manually whenever necessary. The standard configuration accessory of the tuner does not contain 50 ohm coaxial cable, and the user needs to prepare it himself. I'd house that tuner in a garden bin, one google search for Chameleon Antenna would compromise your set up, plus the terminals would be far better protected from water ingress, than from self amalgamating tape.👍

    So any kind of FAN DIPOLE OR DX Commander antenna can't be used?

  • @HOAHamRadio

    @HOAHamRadio

    3 ай бұрын

    Hmmmmm.... DX Commander and a fan dipole should be resonant antennas; any reason why you're wanting to put a turner on them? The tuner has a coax feed, so you can feed ANY antenna into it, just not sure why you would feed a resonant antenna.

  • @americaswayout4489

    @americaswayout4489

    3 ай бұрын

    @@HOAHamRadio I WAS THINKING A second wire more likely to have better lobs at a different length might load easier and be switched just as with a fan dipole and of course DX Commander has several so more likely to work quicker. If the tuner were mounted on a pole as was the case in one video it could be convenient. Some use 42ft flag poles for all bands with performance on higher bands being comprised. Just a thought, being disabled not having to go outside to change to a second wire has an appeal.

  • @HOAHamRadio

    @HOAHamRadio

    3 ай бұрын

    @@americaswayout4489 I'm understanding now. Yes, you would just use the coax feed into the tuner from your Commander or fan; then the turner would work for any non-resonant bands.
