Facts, these are the gold standard
If you just got this thing and you are trying to use this with a midi controller, the patch at 12:01 is a good patch to start with. The black is coming from Gate and the Teal is coming from CV. This will result in a simple mono synth that you can control from your keyboard. Took me awhile to figure this out so I thought I would post.
Didn't see this video at the time of release. Need to say what a wonderful design the template booklet is. And the preset cards are brilliant way to cut down on the time it takes to switch sounds during a set... perhaps even making it possible to do so!
7.5Khz is where the "harsh" frequencies live, so they probably did that to the noise to make it more pleasant sounding.
Fantastic video, thanks so much for taking the time and putting so much thought and work into this.

Hi Loopop! Wanna thank you for your wonderful vids, I’m a beginner in this wild world of modular synthesis 5days in. I own a pico III to start, your videos helped so much to understand the fundamentals and more. And within 5 hrs in the span of 3 day, I was able to make a boomy kick beat with arpeggios and chord like layer (trying to clean it up). I used a couple of splitters as I found the jacks get used up fast. I’m working on squeezing in a high hat sound and snare like back backbeat today. Btw all that without using the cards. I’ll try patching the cards later on. Thanks again very much! Stay safe and healthy everyone!
Always DEEPLY impressed by your thoroughness
Great walk-through as always. Loved the outro track.
The "MOD" module works as a clock divider/multiplier, for the "CLK IN" input, which is often my favorite use for the PICO iii.
I soldered various colored wires on a card, then glued a tiny breadboard onto the card. So much fun patching and adding simple circuits! And patched in my Volca Modular.
Just ordered PICO 111 a week ago so this tutorial is right on time. Love the ideas for preset cards ! One thing I've found problematic with this and with everyone saying it's $450 for the desktop version is that you cannot find it Anywhere for that price...unless you live in Latvia ! If you can't find it available in your own Country, you will be charged xtra tax + VAT in addition to the tax your State charges and shipping ! So it can be as much as $650-$700, €650-€700 . Or as low as $525 in US tax free. Latvia, where Erica Synths Company lives and where their wonderful products are made, charges a 21% VAT fee if you are ordering from UK, US, Mexico, Germany etc. People should really stop saying that the PICO 111 is only $400-$450 . Because it is not --only in Latvia can a person buy it for that amount. 💡👀✔

Oh, i miss the drum modules in that :/ OMG, that Presets Solution is awesome !
Concise and fun demo as per your usual! It would have a simple inexpensive matter to provide (reverse polarity and current limit protected) power rails out on the preset cards. Perhaps Erica thought that wouldn't match up to their target audience. ( ..and even w/ the protections I mentioned , it opens the door to mistakes probably best avoided)
that outro jam was awesome EDIT: the "Hacking Make Noise 0-Coast" video autoplayed after this one and that was a trip, intro jam same notes, key, bass. felt like a continuation of the outro jam. 10/10 experience
V. good review. The Pico 2 was my first proper modular equipment, and the mixers, output, digital fx and rythm section of that is still in my (now somewhat.. bigger) rack. Clever to keep so much functionality for such a low price. Excellent gateway drug for sure!
Is a mini-easel! That’s awesome... I’ve only had the opportunity to mess with Arturia’s vst. This will definitely be in my list o’ stuff to buy,
I wonder if you could be a mini-version of a WMD SSM as a card, and have it trigger through rotating routings really quickly; which if done right, could make it into a mono voice drum machine or glitch machine. Could even make it a digitally controlled version that you preset the knob positions, patches, routings and steps with an iPad or such, and then load them on there, and the card takes over. Some interesting possibilities.
Loved that outro 😍😍😍
Damn, I thought I’d never get into modular, but this seems like a great start.

This is a cutie. Very different from the original Pico but very tempting.
Would love to hear your thoughts on AE Modular some day :) Awesome video mate.
Honestly the biggest thing I dislike is the lack of individual modules. I started my modular journey with the Pico System 2, and once I was ready to branch out into a rig of my own, it was really helpful to be able to sell the modules I didn't like as much in order to fund new modules. I sold about one third of the pico system modules in order to get other modules (dedicated VCA, mutable instruments Rings clone, etc), and that was really what helped me dive in to modular and making my own synth. IDK how many other people will mind this, but its definitely something I valued from the pico system. Still a really cool device, and and even better way to get into modular synthesis.
It seems like the cards could be used with those breadboard test cables like the ones used with the bastl castle and the volca modular
I finally took the dive into modular synthesis and this 'mini-easel' is what I decided to start with. I love this little synth. With my new 6u x 84hp rack, I now have the ability to build a West Coast type system that is tailored to whatever I decide and I just love it. I may need to sell a kidney to continue building my synth....but who needs both kidneys anyway?
Found the link of the tendrils! Thanx
Koma Elektronik maks patch cables with attenuators built in them. Actually they are extenders. A five pack is around $50. There are other solutions out there. But that's probably the simplest one without using up one of the mixers.
It is pretty good value! I really wish it had more percussive quality though! I love my Erica synth techno system Thank you I really wanted a breakdown on this particular unit. It is way better than teenage Engineering’s budget po400.

This card expansion thing is a great idea! It's obvious why they've didn't added +/- points there... To prevent stupid mistakes that will burn out some internal components. Not everything can be "fool" protected unfortunatelly. The same thing with missed GND. "Micro-patching" idea (on 6:00) is not bad but this method has a pretty big con: the connections are not stable and easy to be removed accidently. You can make this matrix DIY actually. Just need to assemble standard metal milled contact lines on a plate then solder them to a preset card. And then Dupont wires will be used to make connections. Anyway you can solder to this preset card literally anything :) Actually you can add two 9v batteries and use active components but the reference voltage level will not be the same (important for pitch related routines). Just need to figure out power supply levels to prevent real fails. P.S. you can easily find GND inside and make a mod (need to drill a little hole near the slot). It will be accessible then... leaving you without warranty though :)

Your slew limiter shifts the pitch a bit BTW! This must not be happening. Or is it because of a too long curve after it filters? If a pot "falls down" to a long slew time then you need another type of the pot. Or you can use a "resistor mod" to make a desired curve for your pot. Here is the online tool: init0.mumpsik.com/?d=tools&p=potcalc
