Review: 2022 Hyundai Elantra N (Manual + DCT)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Elantra N is the hottest new sport compact and in this video I review it on the street, track and autocross course to see what it's like with both the DCT transmission and the manual transmission. With 276 hp, it already beats most of its competitors from a power standpoint. Add to that an adjustable exhaust and cabin noises that both sound great, lots of high-tech performance toys, and fantastic handling, and you basically have an unbeatable combination that makes most competitors look underwhelming by comparison. We don't know pricing yet, but Hyundai's usual strong value proposition will most likely sweeten the deal on the Elantra N, as does its 10 year/ 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. What do you think about the 2022 Elantra N? Thanks to Hyundai for providing the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N for me to review!

    Hyundai is doing what Honda has been doing in the early 2000’s which was giving exciting cars for an affordable price. Honda has been lacking on giving exciting cars that are affordable. Civic si 200hp for almost 30k ? Nah. I’m leaning more towards Hyundai

    It's not thr power level that makes an si not exciting. It's the lack of sound, the horrible rev hang, and the poor pedal placement for heel toe

    @@scentedpicks6195 the Veloster r spec (discontinued though)was to complete with the si and is only a couple grand less. This car will start around $35k.. so with taxes and fees... It will be close to 40.. this doesn't compete with the si, that is just not fair.

    @@wurlinnawurl I’m not trying to compare this car to the si. I’m just saying Hyundai and Kia are bringing more exciting cars. Honda isn’t, and it’s sad to see that they are not bringing out exciting cars like they use too. Civic si and civic type r is their only line up and for a type r they’ll usually go 40k-50k All the n line up is going for under that or even the Nline’s are going for much cheaper. Civic si 28k and Elantra nline for 25k or forte for 22k ? I’ve seen the two and you get most of your money with these Korean cars especially from Kia

    @@scentedpicks6195 While I agree you probably get more bang for your buck with a Hyundai, you can't say that Honda isn't bringing exciting cars to their lineup when the Civic Type R is better than every production car that Hyundai makes. "Exciting" is a completely subjective opinion and doesn't really hold up to any scrutiny. Some people are more excited by their cars "pops and bangs" while others are more excited by a car that offers more performance, has faster lap times, and can be pushed to farther limits.

    I always thought the Veloster N was kinda a stats car. It sounded appealing and sounded like a fun car. Until I drove it. That car was such a thrill to drive. I was giggling like a little boy driving that car. I felt Albert Bierman's hands touching that car. I had to remind myself that it was a Hyundai. I couldn't believe how much fun that car was. I told my sales associate that I worked with to get my Tucson (who also helps me do my Hyundai reviews) that I was seriously about to go to the nearby Walmart to get duct tape and use the whole roll on my back pocket so my wallet wouldn't come out 😂 Totally changed my whole perspective on the Hyundai brand. They have all the right people with the right minds. Now they need to shake that cheap and unreliable stipulation out of people's heads. They aren't really cheap anymore, and they still struggle slightly with reliability, but they have improved on those drastically. Hyundai is just flat-out killing it.

    I appreciate what Hyundai/Kia are trying to do when it comes to making quick and fun cars for an affordable price. It seems like they are creating cars with the same philosophy that Honda had in mind from the mid 80's till about the early 2000's, with an exception being long term reliability. Now with that being said, I would really like it if Honda would get their head out of their ass and go back to their philosophy they had on cars 20-30 years ago. It seems to me that Honda no longer creates a vehicle that is affordable, fun, quick and connected feeling to the road all at the same time. New Hondas are so jam packed with all of these technologies and features that make the car feel so artificial and disconnected from the road. Sorry Honda, but I am not paying almost $30,000 for a new Honda Civic Si, Ill stick to my 230,000 mile 2000 Honda Civic EK Coupe.

    THis is definitely what all us older Honda owners are thinking. I keep thinking that Hyundai N-line is more the midgrade fun performance over content ethos of the Si brand than the latest Si. In order for me to even think of spending the ask price on the new Si, it had better drive like my 8th gen with a turbo on it, and we know that just isnt gonna happen. Slowly warming to the looks of Elantra N. I hope the color pallet is several colors larger than VN's

    Is this better than a mustang ecoboost premium? (I am comparing the auto versions). Pro vs Cons from my perspective: 1) I would regard the Elantra's wet DCT to be superior performance wise, though I like that the auto trans in the ecoboost is the same as the V8 and hence has high torque capacity (no worry when installing ford performance pack engine tunes). 2) S550 chassis is a dedicated solid platform built to handle V8 power but it is 8 years old and suffers a bit from cost cutting (eg: rental car fleet supply). Elantra N is built on a shared compact platform which intrinsically has a great deal of cost cutting, but it is a new generation platform launched this year, like you mentioned. 3) Trac-lok clutch diff in the non-PP mustang is slip based and is not active in left to right torque transfer until wheel speed difference beyond a tolerance happens. The e-LSD is computer controlled in the elantra and seems to be designed for pro-active power transfer to the outer wheel. 4) Rwd>Fwd in some high yaw rate cases, though through most fast sweepers only weight distribution and tire sizes matter mostly. 5) Rwd layout usually also has a better front-rear weight distribution (52:48 F/R for the light ecoboost, not sure about the elantra N) 6) Elantra N gets adaptive damping suspension and an active exhaust, which I would not tick the box for the PP on the mustang. 7) Elantra N can be an only-car with a spare set of all-season tires. 8) N has a lower curb weight by 200 lb or more I believe, ecoboost has a slight power advantage, all-in-all the acceleration and price should be comparable which is why I started comparing them in the first place!

    I didn’t try it in this car and haven’t tested the Harmon Kardon in the Kona, but the Bose stereo in the regular Elantra I had for a week sounded pretty good for a compact car. Still a far cry from the awesome Bose stereo in the new Mazda3 though.

    I think with honda, the anti lag would cause increased wear on the turbo. Since they are known for reliability guess they didn't want to take the risk and hurt their reputation. It does suck that honda has become way more conservative than before, the Integra could have been cooler.

    @@MattMaranMotoring LOL With the fancy features on the interior alone such as the full digital dash, heated seats, customizable TCR sound/ambient lighting, more powerful engine, wider tires, etc. shouldn’t we assume that it will be at least $2-3k more than the Veloster N? A lot of these new features/standard equipment are not on the Veloster N

  • @MattMaranMotoring

    @MattMaranMotoring

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Aurablade77 Possibly, but these are changes that don't drive the price up too much and the greater volume expected for the Elantra vs. the Veloster could also help keep the price reasonable. I'm guessing it'll be $34,995 but hopefully we'll know the actual price soon.
