The irony is the G-wagon was never built to be a luxury car; it was Mercedes' off-road truck for continents like Africa and was built to be a rugged trail vehicle. They just kept adding stuff to it to make it a luxury status symbol (when it never really was to begin with)

Yep, and same with the Range Rover. So many rich people buy G Wagens and Range Rovers but never do anything remotely off-roading. They’ve become overpriced luxury barges.

Agreed. I'd be more inclinced to buy a fully spec'd out Jeep Wrangler before I bought this thing. If I wanted a Luxury SUV, then I'd go GL class.

Im a valet attendant at a very nice hotel and honestly these are my favorite cars to drive even over ferraris and high end sports cars. Its just awsome for no reason haha its great!

Only Mercedes can resell a 40 year old design without any notable enhancements and make you pay over $120 000 😂 This car is a living piece of history though and I hope people will keep buying them.

Amazing review Matt, could you maybe get a s63 or a cl 63?

Matt, I feel like you are making a mistake about rear seat space. I am 6'4 and i can fit comfortabally in the back with my buddy driving(6'). I mean with the amount of headroom of g wagon, drivers don't need to sit that further back like driving glc/mustang (unibody vehicles) and the same translates to the back seat. Normally i need to slouch quite a bit(moving seat back and recline) but in g wagon i don't have to anymore so height difference could be ignored for quite a bit.

I hate how Google places another ad before "Let's turn down to this back road.." I don't use adblocker.

I’d rather have a full loaded Lincoln Navigator way more room and then have 35-40 grand left over. Plus I’d have an suv that is over 3 feet bigger but weighs the same and is just as fast. Ya I couldn’t go off road as well but who does. With the saved money I could buy a Toyota Tacoma

Mine will be in the first week of production so I should get it early-mid July. If you ordered yours a month later, it might not arrive until August or September.

The G65 has been discontinued. Mercedes came out with a G65 Final Edition since they aren’t going to make anymore.

Not the last year; there a new re-design model that looks exactly like this one only more modern features! The base price of a 2019 G550 is $130K and the G63 base price is $225K and the G65 will be around $330K! The highest price G Wagon is a special edition model that is $650K!

I wouldn't call any G wagon up to this generation a luxury vehicle, I'd call it a luxury item. The new generation is a luxury vehicle with the same rugged formula. But of course I know it's a "luxury vehicle", because it's a vehicle. I get it.

BROJAK HORSEMALE New defender won‘t carry front and rear solid axels. It means the new defender no longer a wild conqueror as g wagons.

This was built for German military and look where it is right now, can't say the same for the Hummer...

I don't get why people love this car. I mean there is never a justification for buying a car but this one is truly rubbish, for 123k you can buy an Aston Martin vantage gt, Nissan GT-R, Viper SRT. The list can go on and on.

marc reliability is actually not bad. My mom has a 2013 e class and this g class came out at the same time. Only expensive thing is servicing the car

Come to eastern Europe or Russia for 1 day and you'll truly understand the G-klasse the hard way.

It feels and looks like a Military vehicle because it was designed to be one to begin with. Then over time, it became an overpriced luxury badge.

And uh

Sounds like this was designed by the Soviets.
