Review | 2015 Lexus IS350 F Sport | Almost Great

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Probably the most comprehensive video review on the 2015 Lexus IS350 F Sport on the internet.
It's a car just short of greatness, but has enough good to ignore most of the failings. We go over the car in great detail and hopefully do owners and future buyers justice.

    Every car built is a mass of compromises, and Scott describes his opinion of those compromises. I find his reviews some of the best I've seen, and I have gone to drive vehicles he has reviewed, and found him accurate. I now trust his reviews. The goal of buying a car is to get one with the compromises that best suit the buyer. The only car purchased without compromises will be the one built to the design of the owner. I find these reviews excellent, and find fawning reviews less useful. Of course Scott's bias against Automatic Transmissions is admitted, but he drives cars for a living, now, so he doesn't have to worry that his family can't drive a stick ( whether or not that is the case, I don't know). Those of us with families know that any car with a stick will limit the flexibility for a family's uses. But the person who buys the manual tranny accepts that compromise.

    The only thing I would like, if they go analog clock, they should go all the way and have a mechanical clock at this spot. With the ability to see the cogs and the mechanism turn, and an atomic clock synchro every 24h, so that the time stays precise on the long run. It would also offer a unique marketing occasion, with some cars having Hublot clocks, other having Festina or Rolex, ... and so on. I would love that.

    I have this car.this review is excellent!.I went from a BMW 335i to this.yes it was a little faster and better cornering. I felt like every month it was a malfunction in a different sensor.I was afraid to drive it.I love my Lexus is fast is reliable it sounds great.I have had many people at gas stations telling me the Grill is sexy.I love it.Now if i had money to throw away i would have an M3 or M4 but even my BMW mechanic said M stands for Money, so i bought a 2015 Lexus IS 350 F sport.I installed a Stillen Diffuser in the back and it looks sharp.

    Ive been watching hundreds of reviews and reading a bunch of the same kind of articles on this car. This is by far the best! The most information, great simple descriptions of what you're looking at, and its awesome that you actually look at the car mechanically and figure out what they have done. Its really unique that you told it like it is. Its not a sports car, and is built for longevity. Very other review wants to test it like its supposed to be this track monster. Great work!

I'm currently looking at buying an is350 and of all the motoring reviews from the big media this is the only one that actually gets into the day to day and in depth features and pros/cons that will actually sway my decision to buy this car. Agree with others love the shop session except next time tell your mechanic to actually give constructive feedback that adds to the overall review for people that are going to buy the car. 9/10 though I really hope you continue to produce these quality, researched and unbiased reviews.

Very nice to not hear a 2 minute clip of someone rehashing a brochure. I still am planning on buying the 2016 model of this car. One thing I wish you hit on more is the performance and drivability disparities between the 6 gear AWD vs 8 gear RWD. I'm leaning towards AWD because of Canadian winters.

    Great review. Love the unbiased coverage. Despite the negatives, sounds like you actually like the car apart from the lack of a manual option. Wonder when they're doing a mid-cycle refresh, and if that might include a turbo in the 350? Seems like that's what sets the BMW 340i apart. Turbowski rocks.

    Spot on review! I checked it out before I bought my 2014 used in 2019 and I agree with every aspect of the critique. Nothing beats such a thorough going over. It ain't perfect, but I LOVE my car. You can't find more practicality, reliability and 4-door fun for $22,000. Make sure you get the IS350 though if you want to have fun. You'll thoroughly enjoy the 307 bhp. Torque is decent. The IS250 won't quite satisfy. Drive both and you'll see.

  • @boboutelama5748

    @boboutelama5748

    @@Idonteatdog Different projects are about to see the light. At first, an ISF with the 350 double turbo (that was introduced in the LS), is very probably coming. Looks like, the 200T stays in the programm and will still be offered on certain markets. But the 250, that is actually only the base for the hybrid, will probably be fitted with a turbo, making an estimated 290 hp. Then, there is the most controversial, about the B58 Toyota and BMW coop engine, making her debut in this car. It will offer a 380 hp and 600 nm of torque. This is, for the moment, just a mere rumor that I wasn't able to confirm.

    12:19 I do wish Scott had more dedicated time to discuss his general outlook on the state of automobiles, but subtle little run-on conversations like this have been sort of enlightening nonetheless. As strange as it is I've been sort of torn between getting a car like this vs, say, a 2015 Accord coupe V6 stick. "They make their stuff easy to repair, they don't make their stuff fun to drive" really sort of sums it up for me. I've had a few Accords and a V6 coupe 6mt would be the most fun of any yet, and probably extremely easy to maintain and work on, but still nowhere near as fun as a RWD 3is... decisions decisions...

    I bought my Wife an IS 350 F Sport and myself an RCF. This channel is one of the few actual review channels and not some 10 minute, half assed bash fest comparing them to their German rivals. :) This channel provides a well balanced, fair, extensive review and the production quality is very high. Well done Mr. Geese.

    I have the IS350 from 2006 and the motor is still strong. Its the most reliable car I've ever owned. The cup holder on my model is in the worst position possible, directly behind the shifter in the way of your elbows and you only get 1!!

    I leased one of these for 450 a month fsport is350, and I love it man, best car for the money, ive put 20k miles in one year, I abuse the hell out of it everyday, literally, and I haven't broken anything and never had to go to the service department except for two oil changes, I live in Miami where its hot as hell, im still on the tires car came with and it is about time to change them but you can tell its because I bang on this thing like crazy, cup holder is perfect for me because my gf barely rides in my car enless we go out to eat or something, I HIGHLY recommend anyone thinking about getting this car over 335 and q50.

Thanks for your review, I have been looking and looking for a newer vehicle thats a combination of everything this has. Yes living down here in south Florida is very hot and I want the cooling seats for that very reason, lol. Would you recommend this as a purchase? Any other thoughts or comments?

    SavageGeese, I'm looking to get into luxury sport sedans such as the IS350 F Sport and 335i M Sport. In your experience with just driving so many of these types of cars, how well does the interior hold up as far as cabin noise when mileage starts to get close to 70k comparing Lexus to BMW?

    I bought the AWD version of one of these in 2016. It has been my favorite daily driver. I have never owned a more well built car that's so comfortable but not TOO comfortable and it still has just enough power and grip to have a little fun. The seats are fantastic and I'm an average-sized guy who could stand to lose a few pounds. The dash cluster is amazing. The car DOES feel fitted and while the car does feel a bit hefty, it's a more solid feeling than porky feeling. I bought the car specifically because I wanted AWD without having to buy a goddamn CUV, I actually wanted an automatic tranny, and I wanted a car that will make me not hate driving to work and the airport in Chicago and Chicago suburban traffic. Even the stock stereo sounds really good. NVH is the best I've ever had in a car. I can forgive the quirks, though I'm annoyed that I can't easily wire up a dash cam because there's no 12 volt outlet below the HVAC controls. I also wish it had memory seats because whenever I take the car to the dealer for service, it's invariably driven by someone who is 3 feet tall and completely changes my week long quest to find the perfect seating position. I then have to spend another week twisting, cringing, and swearing while I fiddle with the seat controls until the position is just right. I wouldn't mind owning a dedicated sports car for the summer and weekends, like the 2019 Miata, but it would have to be a second car for me. The Lexus is perfect for my daily mission.

    How is it in uphill snow situations?

  • @jonthepilot6924

    @jonthepilot6924

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@RK1FX Honestly, the stock tires are terrible. I don't have many hills where I live, but I haven't had any serious problems getting around in snow even on the lousy stock tires. The worst problems are in stopping and turning. You have to take it easy and plan for long stops. If you take care, it's not nerve wracking at all. This thing would be a champ with snow tires and it would be much better with better all-season tires. The "snow" mode helps by making the throttle less punchy and sensitive. I would say that if you have some steep hills, replace the stock tires and you'll do fine. It's a crime that Lexus put such terrible tires on a $50k MSRP car. BTW, I've owned 3 Subarus and I would say the Lexus AWD system works well. I prefer that it's rear wheel biased.

    Great review, but you did omit the hp and torque numbers. Funny thing is, you just made me feel so much better about my recent purchase of a 2011 F-Sport for less than $25k that has the same engine but without many of the interior quirks. The older F-Sports have more masculine--performance oriented--black interiors with alcantara midsection in the seats that hold you in place. You do feel like you're in a quality car. My only complaint is that until you open it up it sounds like a Carolla. But it feels tight as hell and loves being pushed. I agree with everyone who suggests Lexus needs to release a new ISF. THAT was a monster. Thanks for the detailed review!

    Great Review. I'm with you on the manual option. If Lexus were to begin offering it again for the IS, I would pick this up in a heart beat. Hopefully 2016 brings a manual, but i doubt it. It's a numbers game to them.

    I don't know why people are complaining about the grill, saying it looks like a Kia design, it has a very different shape, and when I first saw the car, the entire front was very eye catching to me, the twin set of headlights make it very modern, and the hourglass trapezoid shape grill looks nice too. If I could I'd want it in white with the red leather, I'd buy it better tires though.

    The reason they made the turn signals the way they did is so that they don't make a noise when they snap back into place following a turn. Most cars see the turn signal stalk stay in position until the turn is complete, and it snaps back, usually with a clicking sound, afterward. In the IS, this sound doesn't happen. Though, it took me a few days to adjust to them as well, but after owning this car for a month now I appreciate it.

    Overall I agree with the review - actually most of my one-month perceptions of the IS 300 F Sport align with yours on the 350. After shopping around in the segment I just knew from the first test drive I was going to buy this car - sounds like you would have thought about it if it had a manual. :) Disagree on the clock though, I love that thing.

    Nice review. Have 22k miles on mine now, Pilot Super Sports are much nicer, and the damnnnnnn cupholders!!!!!! My iPhone and keys actually fit in them but the issue really becomes when you have a passenger also using it, my old buddy and I used to carpool to work and our morning starbucks stop made this a constant joking point. Also just fyi, the brakes are Akebono, they really aren't that expensive if you can do the work yourself, most lexus owners will pay the $800 for L to do it for them, but the brake job on this car is only slightly more intense than an oil change and you save a ton of money that way (yes common sense you do your own work you save money). The thing this car really needs to make it "special" is an exhaust note. True mountain roads are the exactly where it shines too, you get that want to let loose on the edge feel without ever having predictability issues... I walked away from a hard day on a 45 min mountain descend with an "why did I think I wanted an m4, if I'm not on a track this car does everything I need/want it to do."
