    Nice review Matt! I just bought my wife one with 26000 miles on it and all stock with exception of minor mods like mirror covers, smoked bumper lamps, and the OEM Euro tailights. We have owned many VWAG cars and other sporty fun cars. She told me today it is her 3rd favorite car I ever bought her...which surprised me as she has had a few VERY fun cars! Her list of her sporty fun cars: 06 STi 01.5 Imola S4 Stage 2+ 08 R32 12 Boss 302 (was her favorite till the Kenne Bell and 785 RWHP) 03 GLi VR6 04.5 GLi 1.8T 12 Buick Regal GS 6SPD MANUAL!! Her daily is a 2008 4Runner V8 Sport with 39,000 miles She also had a 99 Sport, 94 Sr5, and an 88 Sr5 2 door SR5 5spd She said she would rate the R higher but no manual and with no BOOST she can't just turn up the power using a COBB or Revo tune LOL!!! And last thing please find a stage 2 or 3 B5 S4 and review one!!!!! My alltime favorite VWAG car!!! Also how about a W8 Passat???

    Matt Doyle Yes it is. It's a 10.5 deg v6 w/ offset cylinders. It just so narrow that both banks share a head. I'd rather called it a vr6 too since it's firing order is different from 60 or 90 deg v6's giving it that distinct sound.

    The Mk5 R32 has the 2nd generation DSG. The first generation debuted in the Mk4 R32, which was actually the first production car to be fitted with a dual clutch. All US Mk4 R32s were manual, however.

    good review, i have the audi a3 3.2 v6 and the dsg in it is spot on. the up shifts are very quick so idk what was up with this. there is a common problem on the old dsg with the ecu. so maybe this one was on its way out. and mine is slower on the down shifts too.

    +Subaruwrxfan I hope one day soon you get to review the new Golf R. They're amazing little cars. 2.0T with 292/280 and of course the haldex awd system, that's been greatly improved since the last R32. Or, the Audi S3 with the same engine and dsg transmission and Audi's Quattro awd. Great review. I nearly purchased an '08 R32 when they were new back in the day. I just truly miss that 3.2 v6 sound, and nice european growl at idle.

    It's not the first generation DSG. The first generation DSG was equipped on the 2004 Audi TT 3.2 VR6. And that is not the correct steering wheel for the MKV R32. And also, in my opinion Volkswagen's Interiors are much cleaner and much better than Subarus!! This Generation DSG had a recall for the Mechatronic unit.

    I'm sure by now everyone has already jumped down your throat about this, but that car you drove is a pup. I have one of these as my daily driver, and this one you were driving had something wrong with the mechatronic unit and/or flywheel if it was slow upshifting, and acting jerky. Also, 0-60 in these with the DSG is not 6.5 seconds. Reviewers who didn't realize the cars have launch control clocked them at just over 6 seconds, but reviewers who used the launch control consistently got 5.6-5.8 times. I think the 6.5 second figure came from the stickshift versions that were available in Europe. Someone already mentioned the steering wheel.... some of the other interior pieces were butchered too, I noticed. If you can, try to find a better example to compare this one against, and read up on the technical information a bit more. I'm a big fan of your videos, keep up the great work!

    Great Review! I wish VW would Bring back R32 automatic. Yesss for those that can't drive manual or preferably want Automatic. It's great to have performance hot hatch with DSG. A strong compact car. I care less for the manual ONLY because I'm unable to press down the clutch due to my lower extremity disability.

    Hi, as always, good video, but one thing that bothers me a bit, and would be good to see is how the automatic in full automatic mode actually behaves, many people don't use the paddles, and knowing if the shift point are set aggressively, or conservatives, when it shifts up and down is a big set of data that's simply skipped by using the manual paddles. Thx!

    0-60 was listed at 6.1. GTI was listed at 6.5sec. I'm pretty sure I've accomplished better numbers with my GTI launches though.

    So what is the difference between GTI and R32 ?...

  • @smirkingdevil
    @smirkingdevil4 жыл бұрын

    I almost bought one in 2011. I could not look past the auto transmission. I test drove a 2012 GTI with a manual transmission right after the R32 test drive and it killed the R32 purchase for me.

    I remember seeing this car when it came out in 2005, the sticker price was $44.499 , in 2005 !!!The price was the obvious reason these cars never sold.

    The R32 was not the fastest in the Mk5 platform, however, it did have Haldex AWD and the VR6 engine, that's why it was more expensive. It was faster 0-60 than the GTI but slower after that because of its weight, and its power in the VR6 didn't hit until way up in the rev range. They are both fantastic, I'd love to own one because of the VR, but they really are kind of the same. It's just up to preference or need for AWD, and of course budget. As a side, why'd they get rid of the OEM wheel, it had the stock number on it, so you could tell exactly which one out of 5000 you had?

    Nice video of a very great car, the value is starting to climb on these in Europe. However, as you can see when you open the hood, it's not an actual V6 but a VR6 ;-)

    Technically a vr6 is a narrow angle v6.

    Mk5mark But it shares more similarities with an inline 6 hence the single cylinder head, and crankshaft. Thats why it's annoying when people call it a V6, may as well call it an inline 6 too. Either that or call it it's correct name which is VR6.
