How does this work with gripper rods for carpets, do you put the gripper rods on top of this and secure through with 20-30mm nails or do you have spacers that fit round the outer edges of a room for the grippers to be installed on?

Hi Graeme Collie, the gripper rod risers go round the perimeter of the room, nailed to the floor and then the Reverso SoundMat (soft side up) is installed by butting the mats up to the gripper rod risers. Before installing the carpet, gripper rods are then attached to the risers and nailed through the sub floor. If you are only installing a carpet finish it might also be worth looking at the SoundMat 3 Plus: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hW2Oyst9gre2lNY.html

How does this soundproofing compare to 1/2” cork underlay?

Hi John Kim, cork underlay is very lightweight and therefore isn't used as a soundproofing material for blocking airborne noise (it can help cushion impact vibration). The Reverso SoundMat is effective against both airborne and impact noise. www.soundproofingstore.co.uk/reverso-soundmat

Can I lay laminate floor directly on the hard side or do I need an extra underlay layer?

Hi Yannis B - Laminate flooring can be installed directly on top of the Reverso SoundMat with the hard layer on top.

Unfortunately effective soundproofing isn't a cheap project to take on, and the bigger the area the more material you need. It all depends how badly you are effected by noise to how far you are willing to go and how much you are willing to spend to solve the problem. There will always be cheaper options for things, but you get what you pay for.

@@SoundproofingStore True. It's really bad in mine - zero insulation between my floor and the house below, so it will need the acoustic wool as well as the SoundMat 2, I suspect. But for two bedrooms and a living room, plus labor costs, I might just have to sell the place.

Will this work for airborne voices moving up through concrete slab in a flat 60s-70s flat

Hi twenty One 21, concrete floors are usually pretty good at blocking airborne noise due to their high mass. Are there any weak points e.g. pipes? It is also worth checking if the noise is flanking elsewhere e.g. via the walls (put your ear to the wall and also the floor when you can hear the noise and compare). Or it could be that the concrete itself isn't solid, but a hollow slab in which case it would be treated in the same way a timber floor. This article might be of interest: www.soundproofingstore.co.uk/how-to-soundproof-a-concrete-floor Our advice would be to check the above and call us on (01423) 206208 and we can advise you on the best solution.

@@SoundproofingStore thanks for quick response. When i put ear to floor i can hear all voices coming through, but same with the internal walls in the lounge as well. Where these buildign s built with hollow slabs? What are your thoughts on internal walls flanking?!

@@twentyone2183 If you can hear the voices through the concrete floor and also the wall, then you'd need to treat both the floor and the wall. Below is a useful video with regards to soundproofing the wall: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mqmCptWSe6_WodI.html Please do feel free to contact us to discuss this in more detail if needed.

Hi @bpy4073, you need to remove the existing carpet prior to installation. (SoundMats also act as a luxury carpet underlay).
