I thought it would be a very difficult process. Just took a look at my 44-3, and I think I'll give the rear element a try, as I seem to like a bubble look more than the swirl. Thank you.

Hold the glass in one hand, turn the lens upside down with the other hand above the glass, push up the glass instead if drop the glass down.

Excellent video John, simple to understand, clear and concise. Nice one mate. The shop you bought it from ceased trading last year. I'm glad you got in before it was too late, no one wants to pay over the odds😁🤣😂

I have just received my Helios 44 with front element reversed for me. Can you tell me how to get the main subject in focus? What are the lens/camera settings? Panasonic Lumix S5 Mirrorless camera. Thanks!

The 44-2 copies with the serial number stamped on the outside of the barrel does not work, threads are too small, the other three series do.

No - extension tubes only reduce the focus distance.

Hi John, what is the best distance to have between your centre subject and the background to produce the swirls you have in the photos at the end of this video, and what did you do post process wise, thereafter?

I usually set the lens at or near the closest focus distance then move the camera towards/away from the subject until focus is achieved. Post processing LR/PS just a touch of clarity.

I have a Helios M44-4 which is cosmetically similar. I did try to reverse the front element, but had real trouble trying to get the retaining ring back on the thread (in fact, I couldn't) So I reversed the rear element instead, and it gives the most amazing bubble bokeh!

The shortcomings turned into achievements. in fact, these are lousy lenses, they have no value in our country, they lie at every flea market underfoot.
