I didn’t know that either until I just saw this now. I would have thought it was an instant fail if you so much as lightly touch the kerb.

Yes but be aware some examiners will ask you to do it next to a drop kerb and ask you to treat it as a raised curb. You won't feel the tyre hit the kerb then and you will go up it and fail.

Examiners won’t tell you it’s a dropped kerb, if you are going at the right speed you will feel it nudge the kerb

@@BradleysDrivingSchool They do tell you because a dropped kerb is usually outside a driveway. They tell you to ignore the driveway and treat the drop kerb as a normal kerb. You won't feel it nudge it the kerb as there isn't one. I am talking from experience here.

@@xusiaxod6255 I failed my test recently on exactly this, I was fuming, as I said to the examiner, how can you tell me to parallel park on a dropped kerb, when it’s not an actual kerb. They’re setting you up for failure, it’s ridiculous.

Great video. I was taught L R R L and as far as I can see yours is L R L (combining the 2 right turns into a single move). Does this 3 turn method rely on having a wide road and 2 car lengths? I live on a narrow terraced road with cars on both sides, so often don't have much swing room. Also the spaces are often quite small (maybe 1.5 car lengths). I've been parking fine here for years, without really thinking about it. However we have a new car that is slightly bigger, and harder to park. I'm trying to get a method nailed down and I like your use of reference points on the vehicle.

Ok my instructor is teaching me x1 full turn to the left, then when the triangle disappears(pavement / road) full right turn to lock and then straighten up when the door handle is parallel to the curb.

Keep your clutch still as you start to move. Be prepared to push it back down the thickness of a pound coin if it goes too fast

What if you have a 4-door car? Which door handle should serve as a marker? Back door or front door?

I use the front. Just play about with the reference point until you find the correct spot. Your instructor should be able to tell you where it is

What if the parked car is facing the other way?? My sons test tomorrow and he says he can’t remember his fool proof way when his instructor has told home to change it 😢

It doesn’t make any difference, just use the front of the car. Every time I have seen it done on test, the parked car has always been facing forwards

@@BradleysDrivingSchool there’s a specific road in Forest Hall (north Tyneside) that is known for parallel parking on a slight hill cars are usually parked both ways. Wondered if it was slightly different?

When i have tried this and turned the wheel to 6 , my car ( a golf ) turns to the curb very wide , then when i double lock ( because i am quite close to the car behind because of how i have turned in at such a diagonal angle ) i end up quite a fair distance from the curb. What is the reason for this please ? Hope that makes sense.

My instructor insists on doing the 1.2.1 and to adjust the left mirrow down. It is just too complicated for me. Test is in 2 weeks and I still have not mastered the parallel parking. 😭

Am not keen on that method as some of my pupils find it quite difficult. Just remember if you hit the kerb or finish a little wide, just fix it. Dry steering is not normally marked on the driving test

Lot of instructors use that method. Nothing wrong with it. For some pupils it’s too much information to remember. We like to keep it simple as possible until it becomes muscle memory.

With a space that big I would tend to only drive up to the rear passenger door and then reverse
