Just bought one. It only had 22k miles on it and its a detective car, so, not a worn out patrol car. I am loving it. Its metallic blue has blue emergency lights on the rear view mirror and PA/sirens. Don't know what I am going to do with all the cop features, but, its sure to be trouble. Just today I got a Kenwood ddx 376BT, so, now watching everything for hooking up the backup cam and sound.

After all these years this might help me figure out my problem gonna try it tomorrow appreciate it

I haven't picked a backup camera yet, I actually came here to see how you tapped into the reverse lights. I'm installing an XTR LP reverse bar above my license plate to help me see a little better backing up at night. But I will be doing some tail and reverse light mods once I find something stylish like your assemblies

As others had said, it was hard to find a solid video for this kind of car, i actually just had to replace my 2006 impala with a 2001 intercepter but essentially its all the same. Side note, i love what you did with the interior. Looks smooth. What kind of paint did you use with that ?

I like the idea of putting the camera through the license plate, I just need to be sure my state doesn't have any stupid laws about that. Also, I like those reverse tail light assemblies. I'll see if I can find some for my 2012 Impala lol Nice interior paint too.

Nice video! My husband has a 2013 Impala and I want to surprise him with a backup camera and new stereo (his is a kenwood single din, I want to add a double din). Wiring a front camera right now... there's a black ground, red accessory 12V, and a yellow for continuous 12V - do you know if there's somewhere near the radio I can splice in the yellow? Or do I need to extend it all the way to the battery terminal?

If it's an aftermarket radio it'll be a yellow continuous 12v on the back of that harness

No problem and no I just grabbed the wires connected to the reverse bulb and took a guess. If it didn't work the first time then I knew the second wire would be the right one

It wasn't really shown in the video but quick question, At 4:32 is the Light Green wire aka the reverse light positive (All the way on the right) where you connect the red wire (the separate cable that was red and black). And 4:36, is the Dark Brown wire (The 2nd wire) where you connect the black wire. I understand everything else, just this part is confusing me as it wasn't clarified.

I have a 13 impala and followed everything you said but when I switch my head lights on it powers off my head unit and the olny thing I can do to make the head unit come back on is go into reverse and When the cam pops on the head unit powers on again and stays on untill I switch the head lights on or off again

I use the same method you did chose to wire postive to light green reverse light and chose the 2nd negative wire I'm thinking ethire a I'm not grounded good enough or b I have a weak battery I need to replace

Logan James power and ground on the camera went to power and ground on the reverse light. Yellow rca ends one plugs to camera one plugs to radio. The wire with the rca, one end connects to reverse light positive the other end connects to the reverse wire on the back of the radio

89imp03 thanks, I realize that’s how the connection works. The issue I have is the red wire on the RCA plug is too short, it won’t reach over to the reverse light. Did you add wire to it to make the connection longer or did you splice the camera red wire and attach the RCA red wire

@@jamesmontgomery8376 ok good luck. It's only 2 wires coming from the reverse bulb. One is power one is ground. That's all you need from the back, the rest is labeled on your radio

@@jamesmontgomery8376 are you on the reverse bulb at the very bottom? Or a taillights bulb? Check the taillights on the other side. If it's 3 wires from your reverse 2 should be the same color and they'll be ground since nothing else gets the same power a reverse bulb would get

I would not get a cam that requires you to drill through the license plate. you should find one that drops down from just above the license plate.

Yeah if you don't want to do a lot of custom cutting or drilling I'd recommend the ones that hang down and mount with just the screws

What did you use or how did you actually connect the wires? I used 22-16 gauge quick connects on the brown wire (reverse positive) and the wire 2nd from left (ground) and I keep getting no signal. I've checked all the hookups from radio. I actually had the camera working when I hooked it up directly to radio but no enough length to wire to run that way. Please help! Been working on this for two days.
