I used to work for stagecoach at the old Stratford bus garage when people paid cash. It was 70p outside zone 1 but £1.00p to go into it. A man got on wanting zone 1 and gave me 50p and 3 20p so I gave the 10p change. Others got on behind him. A short time later revenue got on and brought the man to me and asked if I recognised him.I said yes and explained as above. It turned out that he had not taken his ticket and someone after him had taken it. Revenue still reported me and I had to go and see the garage manager.

Used to pay 10p for a bus ride as a youngster, back when it was cash only. No pass, travel cards or oyster. Just a paper ticket with the fare amount and no money no ride. unless my dad took us out with his staff pass from the underground or blue pass for family discount. Back in the 80s

Depends who you work for and where plus your grade, I know bus drivers who earn a lot more than some teachers and Junior Doctors. But yeah it can be as hard as you allow to be..but I heard this point a lot so that what some drivers feel. I was talking to an officer yesterday and he said a he expect is drivers to challenge the person, but they not expecting you to force them to leave if they done want to.

Well that a bit harsh in not looking to bring criminals record or any trouble for young people and children my video is about responsibility. I never done code red on any kids either I deal with things myself, our jobs is to deal with these things. It’s just about how you do it. TfL still expect us to challenge people. They just made it easier by telling us to alert them on sms, but inspector don’t want us to sit there like lemons and say nothing, they want us to at least tell them they could face a fine if revenue come on . I know for some ppl it long, they rather chill on react to nothing. This job has a way of changing people.. but I say imagine it was your own company..

As a bus operator, it really annoys me to see a passenger got in the bus the front door, walk pass me and take a seat without even trying to explain why they choose not to pay the fare. Of course, some passengers, for some reason, happen to forget that there's a ticket machine to pay the fare - though they come back, say sorry and pay the fare - this type of passengers are often over the phone - obviously preoccupied mentally but honest. However, the worst passengers are those who often try to sneak/creep in through the middle door of the bus, like driver unable to see them through the second rear mirror in the cab and, with joy of success, take a seat at the back like they're decent passenger to be valued. But, in reality, most of our passengers in London are beautiful, respectable, generous and deserve safe, reliable public transport.

straight forward, I'm 16 and have to deal with an environment filled with people who expect things to be handed to them on a silver platter. It's tiring :p (especially considering I've just started my exams lmaooo) I believe in people educating themselves in their own time and I enrich myself with literature, as well as doing research on the most obscure things - I'm confident I could tell you how to start a nuclear reactor or fly the An225 - but the next generation of people really don't care about wwhat might happen in the future and there aren't enough bright people out there. I'm gonna get out of this collapsing country ASAP.

@@thatbusdriverguy4182 Thanks lmao. The field I want to go in to when I'm older (eletrical engineering) is filling up with people who honestly just don't know what they're doing, which I see first-hand, especially with my dad in the industry. There's still good people out there but it's concerning the lack of competance in a lot of fields of work that really require it. My dad is a commissioning engineer and I once looked through the layout he was overlooking for a substation that comes out of Hinkley Point C (the biggest nuclear power plant in the country). One of the young design engineers had somehow managed to miss that the emergancy trip was only planned to cover half of the station, which pretty much means in the case of an emergancy, 400kV of power could potentially surge through the power plant. I don't actually know a lot about the field, but I hope to in the future, as its definitely one of many workforces where the younger generation just isn't taking in the skills that the previous ones were so careful with. :P TLDR: big ramble but the future workforce of this country doesn't care enough and I hope to help change that.

They will always get to school, some get there late and may get a detention, that’s a good thing. I want them to do well in school, but I also want them not to take for granted what they have, plus TFL clearly states that their uniform is not a pass..TfL also has the right to take the pass if they misbehave. It’s all just to make them know that the freedom to travel can me taken away. They just have to bring a payment and all is well. I let them all on usually but I have to say something, cos they will carry that attitude into other areas of their life.. If somebody gave them a voucher for £200 pounds and they lost it, they can’t say to shop keeper well I had it so that mean I can get the goods.. I think when I said in video I throw them off, I also said that was rare. I did it recently to a girl who hasn’t shown her pass for 2 years on my school bus and her attitude stinks. Now when she comes on my bus she is all polite and she now has a pass. Some of the kids even go out of their way to show me they got one.Because they no I don’t mess, they have a lot of respect now..I really proven that we can help them kids not to be slack. Lot of the more well to do kids always have their passes and the better the school more likely they have it. So it down to parents and school. I use the pass as one things to teach the kids, I mean all the best for them.

@@thatbusdriverguy4182 Reminds me of the time on the 54 I let a boy on without his pass who specifically begged to be let on with a sob story (I would have let him on anyway) but then on reaching Lewisham he decided to deride my driving and call me the worse bus driver ever. If it wasn't for other passengers sympathising I would have ended my shift there and then as it rather affected me. Anyway I see your point that it's important to teach the kids not to be entitled but I'm too soft. Also never though to put myself in TfLs shoes, as I always saw it as I work for the operating company not TfL, and as you know in London (or on any other contracted bus service) the operating company doesn't lose anything on missed fares, the bus must run even if no one gets on.

I've got to put up with arguments and accusations from bus drivers for another few years. it shouldn't be allowed he has a pass and it works end of.

I work for a bus company in the South West and their policy is to let them (school children) travel regardless of whether they have the right pass or any fare whatsoever! Basically the kids down here are 'bullet proof' and they know it! It's so frustrating for the drivers AND the fare paying public because why should they have to pay if some of the kids don't? The analogy I use with these fare dodging individuals is, "would you go into Poundland, Primark or MacDonalds etc (other retailers are available!) and take some stuff up to the cashier at the till and say "Oh, I want this but I can't pay for it.- but I'm still having it" - then I tell them, "No you wouldn't do that because it's stealing - just the same as if you try to ride for free when most other people pay for their journey"....... There rumours that school kids in uniform can get on the bus for free between hours like 8am to 5pm school days only however I’ve never seen official source this. Is this facts or lies?

I have a question, I know that wheelchair users get to travel for free but what about the wheelchair handlers/carers do they need to present a payment for authorised travel? Also love your videos Watch them to kill the time on the long x36 route in Scotland

Perhaps there should be a CHILD NO PASS button on the Ticket Machine which drivers press to record each passless child which a) accumulated across the network would show the extent of the problem and b) allow those fares to be collected from local authorities? Freedom Pass holders are sometimes waived on by drivers either due to too much fumbling or if they look elderly just waived on as assumed to hold a Freedom Pass but these don’t get recorded by a manual button press either as far as I am aware? During the CoVid free travel, I believe drivers were required to manually tap a button on the Ticket Machine to record the number of passengers boarded and thus the extent of revenue foregone. If that data somehow linked to the RPI’s Revenue Inspection Device and would thus indicate the number of passless Zip Card holders to expect to encounter on that particular trip.

Your second part I have a problem with! Why should I and other local tax payers pay for kids that cant be bothered to carry their pass or ride without paying. Their parents give them money for a pass but they don't buy one as they`ve either spent the money on snacks or vapes and then try to ride without paying! Take their names and addresses and send the parents a bill for the time and effort of sending the bill out and for the lost revenue! Ex bus driver here.

I would agree to a degree, but is a child is clearly visibly a school child then it seems a bit stupid, even jobsworth. I know kids are fragile these days and have no resilience but in some instances a child having to walk home could be put in danger - this has happened in the past. And how do you "fine" a kid with no verifiable ID?

The same danger they were in walking to the bus. Come on that's a stretch, no pass no travel, simple. You're an example of a pathetic parent who is contribing to this modern day behavour issue. Kids need to learn, not be constantly wrapped up in cotton wool and then crying when they get older every 2 minutes.

This was in the morning and generally I just talk to them, to inform them what the should be doing, plus even if you did nt let them stay on, the next bus will take them. Just need to give them some discomfort sometimes so they can be more responsible. It’s not about seeing they are a child. Free travel is with a pass. Foreign kids on holiday have to pay or kids from outside London, so you just can’t assume that child comes from London.
