Regarding the teacher beating Dongeun in the teacher's lounge/office, corporal punishment was still the norm in South Korea until maybe the mid 00s or so. Teachers could hit their students with a rod or staff if they see fit as punishment for bad grades or misbehavior. But yeah, even if it is allowable, the way Dongeun got beaten is way out of the ordinary even for teachers back then.

baseball bat, metal pipe, broom stick,,, etc. slapping, kicking, punching, stepping,,, etc including verbal abusing, harassing, etc.

This drama is going to be quite a hard watch but the revenge is satisfying.

Ok so the bullying part is real. Also the incident of teacher hitting the students was also not a punishable crime up until recent years in my Asian countries. So it's safe to say no one thought what the teacher was doing is wrong in 2004.

@@rujula6949 I have been slapped by teachers too but it wasn't this rough at least for girls. I have seen boys being hit by sticks before too and up until 2015-16 I guess. I am 04 born.

Glory is based on 2 real victims if buliing. First one is the hot iron part, that actually happend to girl in Korea and the Revenge part is based on man that took revenge on his bullies ( i think he killed them) that also happend in Korea

I don't think he actually killed them he was planning a bomb at a class reunion (12 years after the bullying incident) but he was discovered the day before. He had set up everything for the reunion and everyone came but he was arrested and never showed up. They all wondered, why?

I am 35 years old in Korean age. In those days, it was normal for teachers to come into class carrying sticks for corporal punishment. He even made his own signature club and used various methods of corporal punishment. Backs of hands, thighs, buttocks, calves, soles, etc. It was also common to hit a vital area such as the temple with a fist. Now, on the contrary, student human rights have become too excessive. Rather, as students hit and harass teachers, the number of teachers choosing to commit suicide is increasing, attracting attention as a major issue in Korean society.

I just finished this drama barely a week ago and boy was it better than I anticipated. I wasn't planning to watch it due to the bullying and how extreme I heard it was, but everything else was golden! Hope you guys can enjoy it as much as I did :')

This kdrama is so satisfying. It's in my top 5 for sure

One thing when it comes to Korean school bullying in Kdramas, is that when the bullying is ignored by the school and teachers, it usually has to do with the student having connections/powerful family, so schools want to be on the good side of their parents. And when bullying is swept under the rug, it also could do with the schools not wanting anything bad on their record/scandals.

Hey once you‘re done watching „The Glory“ you should watch the true crime podcast of Stephanie Soo (Rotten Mango) because she has a video on „the real life cases behind the glory“ (that‘s basically the title) She is a fantastic storyteller and a lot of K reacts channels end up reacting to her videos, which is great because he video‘s are really good, I wish you would too. FYI she also has a video about The Sewol Fairy Disaster (the Story behind BTS - Spring Day, probably their most well known song in Korea), Itawon Helloween Tragedy (from 2023, 150 people died in a crowdsurge in Seoul) and The Burning Sun Scandal (a r-word trafficking ring, led by one of the most loved idols). All of those are really popular already but there is also a newer one that she just deliverd so good and it‘s just so sad „The Parasite Actor found Dead after 2 women blackmailed him & 19 hour police interrogation“

There's a channel called "Rotten Mango" where a girl named Stephanie talks about the true events of the Glory that happened in real life. I hope you can check that out too. ❤

Sometimes it was corporal punishment, but sometimes it was personal anger. However, after the law banning corporal punishment was enacted, teachers' authority plummeted. This is the type of drama where once you start watching it, you also have to watch it until the end. There are some very violent scenes. Even if you prefer to hide your head behind a pillow, you can't stop until it's completely finished. Sometimes you want to get up and throw the pillow at the psychopaths who are torturing the girl. And you also want to protect her.
