    This is how we used to build them with cement and paint brushes with real emamel paint,basic model building to satisfy yourself and not others,I like the bold approach for total fun as opposed to immaculate air brushed finishes,each to their own but get a good paintbrush and good results can be achieved,the only thing I would have done would be to rub down the join lines and touch up the paintwork while you have the exact shade available,please take my comments as being in the spirit of model building and not just for criticism. it is just we all build in a different way.

  • @ModelMinutes

    Some model kits do - the Airfix P51D in 1/72 comes with a pilot and the option to close the landing gear. It depends on the specific manufacturer, but I feel as though they are all moving towards crew-less kits these days :(

    i have made revell kits for many years. every kit has been ok. my first plane was this mustang. (i like the bf109, spitfire mk5, hurricane mk2c made by revell) (they are easy and cheap) but this mustang (i bought it again) and it had fitting issues with me getting the pilot and stuff to the plane but once i removed the tabs (and put a ton of glue) it was ok. i didnt remember that this kit is hard, i have nearly built the mustang and to be honest i expected the same great detail that is on those 3 planes that i like, but the pilot kinda replased the missing detail and the joystick. also i kinda messed up with the propeller (the piece you put into it, not the blades) ( i hitted it a little bit too hard trying to get it in but its an easy fix) Nice video!

    It's an ancient Revell moulding. I was wondering if it was the really nice old Matchbox P-51, by seeing if the elegant pilot figure was there - but it's the somewhat squat pilot figure I remember Revell using in the 1970's.

    Good build and paint work. I noticed you left the seam along the fuselage....was that due to this just being a basic quick build? Too bad the kit had no pilot figure. Keep having fun.Bill.

  • @ModelMinutes

    @ModelMinutes

    8 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I left the seam primarily for speed (good spot!) and because I was being a bit lazy. A pilot figure was included, I just omitted it as it looked a bit . . well . . weird. That, and I'm not a fan of having pilot figures in aircraft that are on the ground (wheels down), if i had a stand for it, i'd put the wheels up and add the pilot. Thanks for the comments! Really appreciate the support!

    I have used Tamiya and Mr. Hobby cement for years with good luck. They run about $2~$3 a bottle but a bottle will last a while. When you get a chance, try liquid cement. I think you will like the results. Also, there are LOTS of videos on the internet to improve your already good skills. :-)

  • @ModelMinutes

    @ModelMinutes

    Yeah, i love the results you get from brushing it on and capillary action sucking it into the joint. They look less thick that the tube glues. When I run out of the glues I have will be the time to get a new one :)

    After some 50+ years of modeling, I still use the old tried&true Testors red tube cement. I do use the thinner Tamiya Ultra Thin for certain uses, as well as CA glue. And clear drying Mod Podge for clear parts.

    I'm planning to build it at some point. Really good job on the model btw. The P 51 D's from Hasegawa or Tamiya in 1/72 are really nice. Heller's offering is solid as well. The new Airfix looks good. Academy makes a decent razor-back p 51. If you're looking for a "Malcolm hood". Some of the Czech companies, such as Azmodel or the recently issued Kovozavody Prostejov kits could be the way to go.

    Only thing you can use from this kit are the decals.

    Yep, when you compare this to other 1/72 Mustangs it comes up way short

    I'm currently building this kit and it is so badly moulded. The parts don't fit due to being misshaped or just being too small, there is a ton of flashing all over the kit, and there's not much detail. Granted it is a cheap kit, but still it's far from great.

    Yeah, there are much better versions of the P51 in 1/72 scale

    @@ModelMinutes I picked it up because I thought it looked really good and I was desperate for my first American plane and I have been thoroughly disappointed with it. Instead of the standard livery suggested on the box, I've decided to go with the red tails livery to give it some personalization. Hopefully my BF109 will be better, as I want to hang all of my aircraft from the ceiling using fishing line. It's also pretty cool that I'm just a teenager who's really into this kinda thing. Guess you're hitting a large amount of fans huh

    But old kits have the quality of cardboard and take like 5 minutes to build, with the only fun part of making it being painting and finishing it

    Revell are my least favourite model kits. New airfix moulds are very good but tamiya are the best.

    I find this particular kit to be the worst, poorest detailed kit in 1/72 of this aircraft. The prop spinner and droptanks are massively oversized, and the vertical tail is completely wrong. I've avoided getting this kit. Incidently, the company name, Revell, is taken from the French word "reveille", and is pronounced "rev-ELL". The Revell family name is pronounced "REV-ell". There is no connection between the two, though our family did come over from France during the 1066 invasion. 😎
