Revell 1/48 I Bristol Beaufighter TF.MkX I Full Video Build I

This is a full build video of Revell's mighty Bristol Beaufighter.
This 'Beau is NE429 of 489 (RNZAF) Squadron RAF. This was a New Zealand squadron which was part of the RAF Coastal Command. Kiwi Beaufighters were mainly armed with torpedos hence the kick name "Torbeau".
Not an easy kit this one. Landing gear especially was tedious as it doesn't fit well at all. Wings as well are tricky to say the least. It does turn out well but "check your references", Beaufighters are notorious for their differences.
The Xtended podcast really helped trying to work what did what...
RAF, RAAF, and RCAF Beau's are armed with rockets and wing guns, where as RNZAF Beau's
are the torpedo Beaufighters... generally… but this is does vary! Nightmare!

Hey Tim.... had this in my 'watch later' since last year and just got around to watching it this afternoon. One of your best builds and videos to date. great editing and choice of music. Lighting 'spot-on' aswell. Because of this build, I've dragged my old Tamiya kit to the bench (kicking and screaming) which I could (also) do as this same machine or possibly in SEAC colours. Take care matey, see you on FB very soon.

I built this kit last year, Tim, and found the same issues as yourself; the wings didn't fit well and the landing gear was a real nightmare, as it was poorly-fitting and very weak. Initially I really enjoyed it, but as soon as the fuselage was closed up it fought me all the way. That said, it looks very good and I was pleased with the end result - I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wasn't prepared to spend a lot of time fettling it to get everything to fit. It's good to see that your efforts turned out so well.

It is way, way, way more accurate than the Tamiya kit... The rear fuselage depth is massively shallower than Tamiya, and Tamiya is wrong, while Revell is correct. Worse still for Tamiya, its canopy cross section is bulged and unfixable, Revell again is dead on, with flat unbulged sides. Wing airfoil shape also was superior on the Revell. Landing gear and underwing stores are complicated items: Maybe Tamiya has a few nicer details there, hard to say, so it might still provide a few useful parts for the much better Revell kit. Very nice work on the panel shading by the way.

Hi Tim I am just in the final stages of writing a book of the No489 squadron. It was at Langham the invasion stripes went of as the were based there with the Aussies and Canadians from April '44 to October '44 The squadron code when the first went to Langham was 1 so when you see the photograph of PS -6 you can just make out 1-6 underneath the new PS-6 coding also this aircraft had a radar antenna at the front of the fuselage. The book is called 'Forgotten Heroes' out later this year 2023. Cheers Don Wilkie
