Revealing Bhutan to World in THE MONK AND THE GUN | From Studio 9
Фильм және анимация
Director Pawo Choyning Dorji and actor Tandin Wangchuk stopped by TIFF's Studio 9 to discuss their home country of Bhutan and how it acts as the backdrop of their feature film THE MONK AND THE GUN.
Set in 2006, when the Kingdom of Bhutan began its transition to democracy, this playful ensemble drama from writer-director Pawo Choyning Dorji is a poignant parable about the impossibility of embracing modernity without reckoning with the past.

‘That beautiful quality of innocence gets mistaken as ignorance’…and this was honestly and skilfully portrayed in the film. The best film, I ever watched in Lugar Theatre and the only film where I could connect as Bhutanese to the film. Thank you, Paow. Please, keep telling stories to the world.
One of my favourite films at the MAMI Mumbai FIlm Festival 2023. Loved everything about it. An important film in the world of Cinema today!
Beautifully told . Thank you TiFF and Pawo and Misty ❤ Can’t wait for the movie to come in Australia
the only pathway to connect with this beautiful country from the multi perspective points of views. Thanks!
