Brad Warner is the author of The Other Side of Nothing and numerous other titles including Letters to a Dead Friend about Zen, Don’t Be a Jerk, and Hardcore Zen. A Soto Zen teacher, he is also a punk bassist, filmmaker, and popular blogger who leads workshops and retreats around the world.
In addition to his books, his writing appears in Lion’s Roar, Tricycle, Buddhadharma, and Alternative Press. He lives in Los Angeles where he is the founder and lead teacher of the Angel City Zen Center.
The Other Side of Nothing: The Zen Ethics of Time, Space, and Being
In the West, Zen Buddhism has a reputation for paradoxes that defy logic. In particular, the Buddhist concept of nonduality-the realization that everything in the Universe forms a single, integrated whole-is especially difficult to grasp. In The Other Side of Nothing, Zen teacher Brad Warner untangles the mystery and explains nonduality in plain English. To Warner, this is not just a philosophical problem: Nonduality forms the bedrock of Zen ethics, and once we comprehend it, many of the perplexing aspects of Zen suddenly make sense.
Drawing on decades of Zen practice, he traces the interlocking relationship between Zen metaphysics and ethics, showing how a true understanding of reality-and the ultimate unity of all things-instills in us a sense of responsibility for the welfare of all beings. When we realize that our feeling of separateness from others is illusory, we have no desire to harm any creature. Warner ultimately presents an expansive overview of the Zen ethos that will give beginners and experts alike a deeper understanding of one of the world’s enduring spiritual traditions.

The benefits of meditation would be that it is the easiest way to access higher consciousness, to be able to have out-of-body experience to talk to spirit guides, to travel to other planets and other dimensions. Meditation also allows you to levitate, seeing auras, lower stress level, lower blood pressure and even transfer consciousness to another body (walk-in situations). If you meditate for the benefits, then you will never achieve the benefits. Only when you let go of the expectations is when you can achieve all of the benefits fully to the maximum.

I was overwhelmed when I first started exploring Buddhism as there are so many volumes of the Pali Cannon. Supawan Greens books & teachings literally translated Buddhism & Meditation into simplified understandable teachings for me, she’s such an amazing author & teacher & for anyone who wants to learn about Buddhism I highly recommend you read one of her books

My most successful meditation is when I answer questions on how to end pain and suffering for all beings which I "run" with. It's amazing and visualizing is better than any feeling. Co Create our future!

This was interesting. However I approached meditation for the result of getting through the stress of my job. I didn't know about spirituality or what else was about to happen to me. I recommend having an expectation for meditation. It opens the channel of communication with creator. Once you realize that everything changes.

Maybe the "desires" Buddha meant was "expectations". That would make everything "no goal" "good for nothing" concepts connects the dots. Let go of expectations. Be here now.

Nothingness is the fertile grown where new thoughts are born. Training the mind to be still allows the body to feel the nothingness. Once you extend the feeling of nothingness you elevate your awareness of peace and new inspirations will come about. Then the Celebration continues…

I TOTALLY DISAGREE. DESIRE is More like YOU CANNOT DO "REPENT AND CHANGE" ALONE, You Need THE HELP OF THE CELESTIAL BEINGS FROM THE OTHER SIDE, so That You Can and EVEN HAVE THE POTENCIAL to "REPENT AND CHANGE" easily Like HARDCORE. 💬💬
