Revealed! Here's Why Poland Prefers AgustaWestland AW149 helicopters for the Polish Armed Forces
The AW149 is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose military helicopter designed from the ground up to meet the most demanding needs of the armed forces. The AW149 would be used both for troop transport, as well as in a role of an air support asset.
This is a helicopter that Polish have procured in a heavily armed version, featuring ATGMs procured from another manufacturer.

Same reason why Poland is diversifying tanks/IFVs - to not be reliant on one source. LEOs were a pain to deal with due to Germany BS.... US has its quirks as well.

In Poland, its most important armament will be the Brimstone ATGM. I am happy with this purchase, but I was hoping that the Polish Ministry of Defense would buy training helicopters in the first place, such as the AW-109, to replace them with the Mi-2 training helicopters. Minister Błaszczak has recently declared the purchase of more S-70i helicopters at PZL-MIELEC, i.e. machines of a similar size to the AW-149.

Fragment of the article in Newsweek (18 april 2012) : "AW149 is a twin-engine rotorcraft of the latest generation. It was created in cooperation between engineers from PZL-Świdnik and the Italian-British concern AgustaWestaland. It can be used for: transport, medical missions, supplies, search and rescue tasks and combat support. Three prototypes of the helicopter were produced Serial production is to start in mid-2013." I relied on it, but perhaps the information contained therein is no longer up to date?

K-239 Chunmoo if im not mistaken about the name. Same situation as with the tanks a limited number of the non indigenously produced M-142 HIMARS and a shtload of the K-239 indigenously produced. 👍 But i doubt that they will introduce the F-15EX as it is high maintenance and the added strain on logistics will be too much. The F-16V, F-35A and the FA-50 block 20 have a lot of very similar systems if not exactly the same. The F-15EX has a lot of other avionics. The engine situation is already hard to sustain once they are all in service.

I would love to see Korean made K9's sent to Ukraine. It will be an interesting duel between North Korean made shells and South Korean made artillery/shells. The fact that North Korea sending artillery shells to Russia gives South Korea a green light to send arms to Ukraine.

Korean are not wanting to destabilize the balance of power in their area. Pissing of the Russians would destabilize the balance of power within the regio. Why does Poland prefer this helicopter model? The answer is prosaic because Italians are more effective in corrupting Polish officials than the French and Americans who do not have such influence in the Vatican as the Italians. It was the Vatican, which has significant influence in the environment of the currently ruling Polish party, that secured this contract for the Leonardo corporation. Leonardo offered the same product that he lost in the tender competition with Caracal.

@@jaroslawgarbus5676 well, the original tender was for helicopters what would be used in submarine warfare and possibly operating from frigates. Only one option was available that had such version and that was Caracal. The other two would essentially have to be upgraded so much that they would be another versions. Ones that for instance would use materials that can resist corrosion.

Disadvantages : 1) Large windows in the transportation section. 2) Poor armoring. 3) No ramp at the rear (long loading/unloading time. Cannot take sapper robots, unmanned platforms, and other vehicles . 4) Small side doors. Hard to install .50 BMG there . Landing craft during embarkation / disembarkation has no shooting cover. 5) All items have to be lifted including stretchers with wounded, ammunition bins, heavy team weapons such as 120 mm mortars , automatic grenade launchers, etc. 6) When it takes a landing craft it is hard to rearm it on the side mounts. Suspended armament is unlikely to help in loading and unloading. It is not very clear what is the resistance of this helicopter to modern mines attacking low-flying targets. I wonder what decided Poland to purchase these helicopters ? Legendary ,Italian workmanship, or even more legendary product maintenance (see - training aircraft, grounded all the time). Not for me to judge....
