Reuse previous viasat dish mount and install Starlink Dishy 2

I remove the retired viasat internet dish mount and install starlink Dishy gen 2 using the existing mount and a few parts I already had. I then cut the starlink network cord so I can route the cable thru conduit and then lengthen the starlink network cable after moving the dish to a better position.

I concure with Chuck Green's comment. He is spot-on with reasons for reconnecting the shield. The antenna and router are vulnerable from any future electromagnetic spike short of a lighting strike. Engineers design to specifications, but it's the bean counters that decides what parts remain in a 10,000 unit production run. Even the bean counter thought the shielding was required to mitigate future risks. You are producing excellent content and providing a service to the community. Keep up the great work.

nice vid, them ends look like a pain in the butt to fish through walls . That looks to be a standard cat6e cable that shielded , you can bond the shield back together by just connecting that ground wire from cable to cable . The shield is there to reduce emf noise from being induced on the 4 pairs of wires inside the cat6e cable and causing data loss. If your cable is away from emf sources like power wires, florescent lights, or particle accelerators you will be just fine. Thanks for showing that pipe mount!!!! Ill be getting mine soon and will be doing a similar installation. Thanks For The Video !!!!! ;n) looks good

Excellent walk through! You did put a muffler clamp on that dish (windsail) though after I'm sure to mitigate it from becoming a kite on a freak windstorm!

The wind will rotate that dish. It needs to be secured to the pole so it doesn't rotate.

How do I remove the x feet that came with the satellite to install it on a j mount?

Great video! Kind of random but I'm hoping to get Starlink but I heard that I can't view security cameras outside of the network. Do you know if this is true?

Untrue. We use EZVIZ cameras with great success. Accessing from multiple networks including Verizon, AT&T wireless all over and fiber connection in large cities, even from a Carnival Cruise ship WiFi in the middle of the Pacific.

Never should have cut the cable. It's shielded for a reason. Should have pulled the flat end from router towards the dish.

Thanks for the comment. I didn’t mention it but I did try that. The connectors are a lot bigger than normal cables. They do not flex. They won’t fit through any conduit. I haven’t had any issues since installation. It would be nice if they had a better design that allowed for easier wire routing through tight corners.

Both ends are proprietary waterproof HDMI-like connectors.

@@BrianJense I'm wondering what the original satellite wiring consists of and whether I don't have to re-run all that wiring from the Viasat dish to Starlink dishy. If it is the same, I wish they just sold the ends and a way to connect it. Any ideas??

@@scraperfect The cable is a heavy duty Ethernet cable, so you will have to use that. The ends does not detach as they are water proof.

Is regular satellite wire the same as starlink? I've seen people use a special plastic connector...
