Use wood, whatever you can source, the idea being that there is a contrast of colours, duh, then come up with whatever dimensions you so desire, personally, this would be too small, but who cares? Just get yourself a scale-rule and draw it up and fuck, if you already have a table saw and know how to use it, you can figure this shit out. If you DON’T have a table saw then dimensions are not any use to you. Hope this helps.
@mechantics
Жыл бұрын
The only thing you need to concern yourself with is the state of the wood that you opt to use. If, for example, the blocks were made out of a somewhat moist white pine while the mahogany (cedar would work equally well) were relatively stable, you would likely find some distortion and splitting as the moist wood shrinks. Don't let the smart ass haters dissuade you from building and creating. It's better to fail at half of 10 tries than it is to be equally free of failures and accomplishments. Just be certain that, when things don't go as anticipated, you can only "fail" by not taking the time to understand why something didn't work out. And my other piece of advice: don't wait for that perfect shop space you dream of, nor the high quality tools. And certainly not to be able to buy a bunch of wood. I have found a source under 2 minutes from my house, a husband & wife operated mill that specializes in custom mouldings for the "other people" of Palm Beach County. I have nearly completed the rebuilding of a vintage Toyota Dolphin Micro-RV and, as of yet, I haven't had to buy a single piece of wood. Using the jig I made to straighten an edge of the often irregular pieces of white oak, cedar, mahogany and oak, my work has surpassed my overall expectations and is being done with nothing more than a bottom-of-the-barrel Ryobi table saw, a similar mitre saw, glue, construction adhesive, and an electric planer that should bring shame to whatever country seemingly spent
