(Reupload) Make Potassium Nitrate and Sodium Nitrate at Home Using Calcium Nitrate

In this video we make Potassium Nitrate and Sodium Nitrate using the easily obtained Calcium Nitrate.
Potassium nitrates and sodium nitrates are sought after for their uses in... umm.. fertilizer.... as well as for making alternative aqua regia. I've previously shown how to make them from ammonium nitrate, but ammonium nitrate is getting harder and harder to find as stricter regulations are enacted. Fortunately it seems calcium nitrate is widely available as fertilizer and has much less restrictions. I could easily buy it online from various e-commerce vendors.
Calcium nitrate by itself is usable to make nitric acid directly, but potassium nitrate or sodium nitrate themselves are specifically desired, then it can be converted. To do so, Calcium nitrate is first identified by looking at its NPK value to determine the exact form and the molar nitrate equivalent is found. That quantity is then reacted with equivalent amount of alkali, like potassium hydroxide or sodium carbonate, and then filtered. The filtrate contains the corresponding alkali nitrate that can then be dried or crystalized.
For potassium nitrate specifically. Potassium chloride may be reacted with calcium nitrate and the solution heated until dissolved. Then filtered and allowed to cool and the potassium nitrate directly crystalizes out. This is filtered and retained. Although it is rather impure and needs to be recrystallized again for best purity.

The North Sea likes to spray salt water pretty far in land, to the point where even the ground water is slightly saline in these areas. And if you were looking for a source on the relation between kale (Brassica) and sea kale (Crambe maritima) are both of the Brassicaceae familty I suggest wikipedia. Sea kale is obviously more salt tolerant (in fact it will grow right up to the water line) than your normal kales and cabbages. Fun fact: They are close enough that they will cross pollinate, so if you're looking for a new type of kale that is particularly salt resistent

I tried the NaOH precipitation method and it works pretty well. The Na salt is indeed far more soluble than the K salt so repeated boiling of supernatant was required to get more crystals of nitrate. Another thing I found out was that Ca(OH)2 can be quite a huge contaminant in your final product. When I boiled the filtered solution of calcium ammonium nitrate and NaOH, the originally clear solution turned slightly white with a milky suspension, which I strongly suspected to be dissolved Ca(OH)2 (limewater) which crashed out of solution when boiling. The solution was filtered to remove CaOH2 when all ammonia was purged and the volume reduced to around 300ml, then boiled further to crystallize. This removes almost all the calcium contaminant

First of all, great video even if you have to re-upload it 20 times. 👍👍👍 I simply can't understand why videos like this one are not only immediately demonetized, but in most cases completely deleted by YT, even though there are countless videos on YT that show the synthesis of an illegal stimulant in great detail. YT, in contrast, doesn't seem to be interested in this stimulant videos in the slightest. These videos are also deleted from time to time, but the channel in question simply re-uploads this videos after a short time. Not only do these clear violations of YT's guidelines seem to be pursued far less rigorously by YT than actual chemistry education videos, YT appears to show no interest in these stimulant videos at all and only reacts, if at all, after corresponding reports from YT users. YT appears to have double standards here.
