I love Returnal, it's an absolute great game. But there is no way I would ever attempt to go for the platinum. The first boss took me a bout 5 tries.

Maybe I got lucky or more use to boss battles but I cleared first boss on first try. I actually got to the boss in about my first 2hrs or less of experimenting.

4th boss by far coolest in the game. The music was great and how he got pissed when you messed him up and he just tries to backhand you lolol such a great fight

If you didn't notice, the music during that boss was an adaption of Seasons Don't Fear the Reaper. It actually matters to the story. And is only one of many things that subtly flow together in the games narrative. This games artistic and narrative design is insane.

@@lilyoda787 ya, the plain story itself is fairly basic. But the way it's told is not. That's the beauty of it. Realizing that this whole alien world represents her grief and loss, with all the tie-ins and symbolism and everything. All the names are founded in Greek mythology and hold meaning to the story and characters, the number of the clock on the car radio is seen everywhere, the music is evolved from the radio music. It's just a fantastically creative way to tell a story about tragedy and grief. I wouldn't call simple or not effective at all. It was masterfully done. I went in expecting a generic Sci-Fi story crashlianding on a planet and escaping. Which the game did have. But there was so much more underneath that revealed itself.

Great video. Having finally gotten the platinum for Returnal, I agree that I will never do it again. It's probably a 3/10 for the grind, but the game is a solid 8.5. For anyone wanting to go for it, my tips would be: Don't. If that doesn't stop you, then just know that the only troubling trophies are the surveys (one for each biome) as you need to get every xenocypher (RNG), beat a challenge room (spawn in different places per run), fall down a breakable floor, and get the scout logs (RNG). The other troubling trophy is the sunface fragments. It's just RNG, and as the video mentions, they spawn in the same rooms every time. The rooms are of course, RNG. As for helpful tips: -Get the Electropylon Driver (gun) -Stock up on any helpful items (mainly healing and defence) as you can, as well as health (integrity) needed -Play offline (go online if you need some ether from the deceased scouts that spawn or trade your currency for them) -Before you enter the biome you need, suspend your cycle, then save that file to the cloud (you will need a PS+ subscription for this) and if you die or can't find what you need in that biome, simply close the game and download that save into your console storage, and turn the game back on. You'll resume right before that biome wherever you stopped on your cloud save (you can check by what real world time it says it saved), and you can try again, instead of doing the whole biome again on your way to the one you need (this excludes the first and fourth, as you must start in those, but both are simple and aren't difficult to gather everything) -Once in the biome, avoid all enemies that aren't required to beat. That gun I mentioned earlier attaches to enemies and surfaces so multiple enemies can be killed at once and quicky, while you hide and grab the obilites that fall -Biomes 2 (Crimson Wastes) and 6 (Abyssal Scar) are the two most difficult to gather what you need, so be patient and do them last if needed. -Cyphers are on the map as green triangles, same as items. They never spawn inside locked rooms (there is a story based exception), challenge rooms, or breakable floors. Honestly, just look up a guide on where they all are, and when you recognize a room, take note of it so that after collecting, you don't keep searching it in every cycle you do. -It's best to really begin the surveys after beating the game. Some require tools you get throughout the game, especially late in biome 6. Getting this platinum is akin to Selene's sanity. Failing. Unless you have time and really like this game like I did, I just don't recomend doing this. But if you're determined, I truly hope I was able to help. After this and Persona 5 Strikers' platinums, I think I'm done with the tedious long platinums for a while.

The second boss imo is harder than any other boss in the game.

First and only game I have ever got platinum on! Took me around 8-9 hours to beat Phrike. I now have over 400 hours and love helping new players make progress. Amazing game.

@@claudejones3451 Ah man, I needed to go co-op to beat Ixion the first time lol.. Best advice I can give you is take your time through both biomes. Focus on maxing out integrity. Kill all enemies and level up as much as you can to get better weapons. Try not to go overboard with malignant items. If you can grab an astronaut or something that gives you a second life. With regards to the combat, not much to say really. Learn his moves. In the first phase just focus on staying on the opposite side of the platform. Second phase stick near the edge near the rock face (best place to jump over his waves). In the last phase just kill him as fast as possible. Learn to perfectly time your jumps to hop over the three rings he blows at you. And use your dash, your invincible for a split second. You can dash through projectiles, waves, etc.

I feel the same way with the 4th boss so epic. I literally stood there for 20 minutes on stream just listen to the music because chat didn't want me to go in just yet. I love that boss fight

Pro tip put the gm in offline mode helps with finding the ciphers. I got the platinum New Year’s Eve evening. One of the most satisfying plats I ever gotten.

Crimson Wastes is by far the worst to collect all the glyphs. Took me two months, about 25 hours just for that ONE glyph that spawns in the same room as ever you pickup the Datacube. Have to use Grapnel to get up there...smh Housemarque!

I'm starting a RETURNAL tattoo sleeve 6/23/2024. The main focus of the sleeve is PHRIKE. Then I'm waiting for the art book to come out this Nov or Dec and go from there. RETURNAL is still the best PS5/PC Port to date. The graphics and gameplay are unmatched.

Really excited to play this when I finally get a PS5, great video man, Keep up the good work!

I`ve just got the platinum and I should admit that I`ll brag a lot because of this platinum in the future. Fascinating and compelling game, the only problem were, in my opinion the surveys, game director MUST have designed them differently.. Anyway, Returnal platinum has been added to my collection !

The thing with the 3rd biome is that when he drops to the last health bar, you can start shooting from the place you spawn, there is no need to get close first!!!

Back here a while after I got the platinum myself, now working on completing the dlc. Your video have me the push to platinum this game and you weren’t kidding about the grind for the ciphers. Even still, I like the game enough to finish up the dlc after. The gameplay is great for me, I really have come to like the fast paced combat. Thanks for this video.

I did this on a previous account and will be doing it again for my account I'm using now. I didn't really have much issue with bosses as I beat them all first time apart from dying once to the first one, thing I struggled with is certain enemies, like the ones in biome 3 those drones that fly straight at you and the challenge rooms with the squid looking thing stuck on the door that you have to shoot off.

It's crazy that i died like 100 times at the first boss because i didn't know what i was doing,meaning not encreasing my healt and other things before the boss,but finished the second and the third in 2 tries, and the last 2 bosses on my first try😂

I can’t imagine trying to get the platinum. I just got to the third biome and the difficulty spike leading up to the boss is crazy.

9 ciphers left in the desert for me, I know it's going to take at least a week or two, but I've never been this close to being done. The Abyssal Scar was by far the most depressing and challenging survey for me.

I remember i killed nemesis from the first try, and at this moment 9:36 my eyes unconditionally teared up, i was so scared to lose my progress but i did actually win, absolute masterpiece of a boss fight

I actually didn't think this was too hard... it took some time grinding the maps for the rng on the ciphers, but once you can speed run the levels it's really just an issue of time. I loved this game though so that may have made it easier =) Either way ggwp.

Was tempted to get this game but dont think i can handle the sensory overload with all the objects and colours. Plus it seems like i game i would lose interest in having lost over and over again

you should have seen the collectable grind before they increased the areas that they could spawn in. I spent 2 weeks just speed running biome 1 over and over to get scout log 9.

This game stresses me out so bad but I CANT STOP PLAYING.

Best PS5 game till this day(11/march/2023 even after GOWR and ER, so addictive to play with amazing story and crazy fast gameplay

I first tried the 3rd boss which is the hardest in the game but it took me at least 8 tries to beat the first boss.

Proud owner of a platinum and 100% on Ascension. I can't wait to replay the game but for sure I would not be able to finish Ascension ever again. That's the toughest piece of game I ever experienced

i am trying to plat this game and the worst part is...: the easy fix for make this searching for collectables is showing in the map if there are any. When i click they just show some triangle and i could be anything...

I liked it a lot, finished the game really fast. Now I'm having trouble with the Cyphers

This game looks amazing and yet I know deep down that I'd never be able to get the platinum and I'm not even sure if I could finish it. I mean I'm neither THAT old or THAT bad at fast-paced games, but this one really screams skip at me. Thank god for KZread, so you can watch others suffer in your stead.

By far one of the coolest and most addict games I've ever play in a long time very difficult as fuck this is not for the casual gamers but once you learn the basics is a easy piece for me most difficult boss was Nemesis and believe or not the last 2 bosses are not difficult but Nemesis pffff be ready my man.

The ascension DLC and introduction of Co-op mode makes it infinitely easier to do most of it. If you can find a player who knows where to look for all the shit and is competent in combat it alleviates a lot of the frustration. You don't even need a hard carry, but a helping hand while you git gud and start earning some premanent upgrades really helps. That said the RNG for the surveys is all that stands between me and the platinum now and I am not looking forward to it.

No need to go for the collectible trophies. The game is insanely fun regardless. Just remember its best played fast and loose. Dont worry too much about dying, and play like you would doom eternal.

Try the platinum on Alienation on Hardcore mode (PS4) also by House Marque. Only the very best need apply.

idk bloodborne or any souls game is up there. hades on 32 heat. deal cells on 5bc. hollowknight. returnal is one of the easier rougelikes.

Phrike was a pain but honestly Ixion was a hell of a lot worse. Idk how many times it actually took me to kill Ixion + that was with the help of the Astronaut Figurine. Funny enough I beat Nemesis on my first try. For anyone new to the game, use the hallowseeker. Probably the best weapon out there on your first cycle.

The tower is good for practice it's good to do it through your play through of the story. It's just practice.

The plat is easy with some practice. The collectibles are....interesting to say the least. Thats where the frustration came in for me

The company was purchased by Sony. Housemargue. Their other games are great. Share a lot of mechanics with returnal.

Congrats on the plat! I loved the game and although I cursed the process of earning that plat, I feel like more games should be this brutal and demanding in terms of earning a platinum trophy. You earn most trophies just by playing (which requires a decent amount of skill), but it demands a staggering amount of determination and resilience to earn all of them in this game. This is one platinum trophy you can truly be proud of.

Watching this video made me give this another go at the platinum. I was stuck against the first boss but after 2hrs I got the welcome home trophy which I couldn't do in my last 2 attempts and 1 attempt on the first boss and beat him.i restarted my whole game again and this time feels different like I could achieve the Platinum.

They patched it several times & definitely easier than those first few months after release. I beat it back then & was way more difficult. No suspend & astronaut Artifact spawned about 5% of the time, meaning only the reconstructor could allow for a 2nd "life". Not just that, they ruined the AI of some enemies like the drones in Biome 3 - they're still tough, but originally if you didn't finish them, they all would kamikaze you & just one hit for 30-40% of your integrity, so a group of 5 was instant death if you didn't kill them quickly enough. Lastly, the Silphium drops were increased everywhere which REALLY helps you survive longer. Example, in Biome 2 originally, 50% of all Resin & Silphium was Spoiled/Malignant, now its about 20%. There's more but if you wanna see for yourself, get the disc & load it offline for day one brutality of Returnal. Edit: also the map didn't show any markers originally, only the mini-map showed items, Silphium, parasites, etc. So you really had to pay attention if you left anything for later pick-ups like Silphium or Resins, weapons, etc.

I enjoyed the game overall, although there were times when I wished every single person that worked on that game got explosive diarrhea. But then I finished the game (twice, then googled the true ending) and realised the writing was terrible. Who the hell approved that storyline?

The RNG for the collectables can be roughhhh
