These missing spots make complete logical sense. Luke and the guard squaring off against each other before the gate opens: I could see that happening. Luke using the Force to jump back up to try to escape that way: that's what I'd probably try to do first. Jabba probably would have used more guards instead of jawas to send him back down, though. Um... did they really use King Kong as a stand-in for the Rancor!?

Your seven-year-old comment becomes suddenly relevant, considering the events of the final episode of the Boba Fett series.

Can you imagine the movie was like this. Black and white, no music, aliens spoke English, it would really give that 1950’s sci-fi vibe.

It's amazing how fine a line it is between convincing visual effects and looking like a bunch of guys in rubber suits.

There are other deleted Slave Leia scenes too. Leia sitting on Jabba's tail. Leia drinking from Jabba's goblet. Which are missing for some reason.

That was the first time I've actually seen that. Was not expecting him to jump up to the bars. Remember the scene they deleted after they rescued Han, they were all talking in a sand storm. Scene was nice to watch, but you couldn't hear amy body talk. Scene would of worked without the sand storm effect.

Quite amazing the difference that a lack of soundtrack and audio effects makes!

Wow! Awesome this wasn't on the Blu-ray it be great one day if they release the whole work print.

there is also that part missing where vader tells luke that he is his father. its veryvrare and not in the orginal

I can't remember if it's included on the blu ray or not, but there was also a scene where Leia stabbed a guard in the back after Luke tells her to get the gun and point it at the deck. He tells her to point it at the deck twice, in between that should come the bit where the guard gets stabbed. It's pictured in the return of the jedi sticker book if i remember right, and im pretty sure when empire was first shown on tv you see the death of Veers, i had it recorded for some years!

This is the infamous King Kong cameo. Luke was originally supposed to fight King Kong, King Kong grabs Princess Leia and climbs to the top of Jabba's tower, skiffs fight Kong before the big ape falls to his death, etc. Then, in a rage, Jabba has Luke face the Rancor.

Sounds like the voice from Altered Beasts. "Welcome to your doom!"

The original storybook for "Return of the Jedi" came out in '83, and it *did* include a picture of Luke dangling from the grate :)

I'd seen that shot too, maybe on bubblegum cards? I can see why they took it out. If Jabba knew he could jump like that he wouldn't have been loose to walk the plank.

Eh I guess you could argue that but this is a case of not being able to really help both sides. If they kept this scene in it would make Luke look smarter and more logical in the way he thinks, I mean I know if I fell into this pit and I could jump really high I would for sure jump back up to the grate but if this scene is kept in it also makes Jabba look like an idiot during the Sarlacc Pit scene. I really think I would've preferred it to stay in

Jedi is awesome just like the other two original films, but I hated A. how Boba Fett died so easily, and B. the Stormtroopers should have been a lot tougher during the ground battle.

Dude that was cool! Am I crazy.....but I love the black and white look!

Yes it's in the book, which I have somewhere. It's a student pictorial book of Return of the Jedi. I don't remember, I saw the film but I'm thinking it must have been in the release. I'm not able to verify because the original film copies are destroyed now, unless Lucas keeps a few spares. In my mind I have been looking for this scene for a long time. Thanks for sharing. Is it (this scene) on a Blu Ray or DVD release somewhere? Where did it come from?

No as far as I'm aware but the image of Luke holding on the bars was included on trading cards as well as various merchandise which is why people remember this bit even though it wasn't in the film.

Where did this come from?

I remember this scene being in the original release... but I think it was cut out even as early as the second release the following summer. (Maybe to make Luke's Force Jump after walking the plank a bigger reveal on the skiff barge?) I got into arguments with other fans over it's existence in college... until the very first release of the special edition where the added it back in in the movie theaters... but it didn't make the VHS/DVD and now seems to be gone forever. I've never understood that. Nice to see it again.

You are right, i've also seen this scene before! There's also a return of the jedi storybook with the storyline in it, it's a big picture book and it's red, a picture of this scene is in that book.

YES! I remember this scene CLEAR AS DAY in the theater! I’ve argued with folks over the years because, inexplicably, it was never included in ANY VHS or DVD release. I was only 8 years old in ‘83, and I DID have the ROTJ storybook So there was a point in time where I started to think maybe I was confused or I’d imagined it!
