Retractable Hinged Guide Rail Do-Over Upgrade

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Addressing some minor niggles from my original design, this do-over makes my retractable hinged guide rail a dream to use and makes for super quick set up for plunge saw cuts on the MFT workbench.
As far as I can tell, this is a unique design. Maybe no other woodworker is mad enough to try it! It does however serve a purpose for me. My workbench being in the middle of the workshop and serving as an outfeed for my table saw, having a guide rail and alignment pin that can be as quickly set up as cleared away, without any assembly/disassembly, is a god send.
Anything you think not covered here is likely covered in my original video, link below.
Cheers all

    Like the innovation of it being able to slide down at the back of the table, so you can still use it as an out feed. Great for a small shop.

    Cheers. Yeah, it's only worthwhile where your benches are in the middle of shop really. Not needed if your bench is up against a wall.

    Very beautiful bench Indeed. I came over to your channel at a mention from Peter Millard, and I’m so glad to have found you. I appreciate the dense content of your videos, and the fact you get right to the content. And your self-deprecating sense of humour is a huge treat. Thank you for all the work clearly apparent in both your woodworking and your videography. I wish you many subscribers (although all that fame is likely to be nothing more than a bother) 🇨🇦

    Hats off to you Stu on a fantastic upgrade to this method of bring the rail into play and then out the way given you the bench back. Oh, and cheers for the mention of the Original Waste Side Jigs - I love seeing them in use in other people's workshop - especially when precision is required.

    I’ve noticed on another channel, not sure which, they used a sacrificial replaceable strip under the saw cut, this was easily swapped for a new one when needed.

    I find both this set up and the table saw invaluable. Panel sizing on the mft, ripping on the table saw and so forth. It is great having a rail always set on the bench though. Be sure to check out my latest video on the BD fence upgrade. In it I also redo the front pin. Might give you some more ideas 👍

    Fantastic! As a new tracksaw user with a similar set up but using profile and a gantry plate I’m still getting used to how to use it. Do you lock off the height adjustment for every material or do you leave it sloppy? Not sure if my setup is normal or a bit rubbish 😂

  • @BischBaschBosch

    @BischBaschBosch

    8 ай бұрын

    Cheers! I mean, generally when you're cutting, you're doing a bunch of the same material so, in that case, I'd lock it off. Now I have a lock, I probably still would even if I was doing 1 cut on different thicknesses to be honest. Whatever works best for you with stuff like that really innit. You saying you use profile and gantry for your track saw set up? I'll have to have a peak at that.👍
