Retracing A Medieval Pilgrimage That Left Southampton 500 Years Ago
In December, 500 years ago, a pilgrim left for Southampton to Canterbury. Often sleeping in hedgerows along the way, that medieval walk has been recreated by a former teacher from near Petersfield. Carrying everything he needed about him, including a staff for support, and wearing clothing made as authentically as possible, Steven Payne walked nearly 200 miles to complete the trip.
