Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

    I watch a lot of Thailand related KZread videos. I just discovered your channel when the KZread algorithm suggested your channel. I like your content and narration style as I get a feel of what’s like to be a retiree in Bangkok. It’s so boring just watching someone eating Thai food or just talking about one specific subject about Thailand. I will keep watching your content. And yes the US is changing for the worse and not getting any better.

    Yes, Bangkok in many ways feels like growing up in Southern California in the 1980's I don't mean to be that old guy. I'm only 58. But, I remember riding my bike to the beach for 8 hours a day. Can you imagine sending a 10 year old to Venice Beach today. I'm not wild on being there as an adult. In Bangkok an area of 16 million, it has a small town feel. Crime is almost zero. If it had a beach, I would be fine letting my 13 year old (if I had one) ride his bike to the Bangkok beach. Today if you park your car at the beach in San Diego, it's a crap shoot if the windows will be broken when you return. If Bangkok is 3rd world, sign me up. Nobody living in a park here. Nobody running out of Target with $999 of products. I hate to see my hometown going in such a direction.

    Don’t get me started about California. I’ve been in Los Angeles since 1996 and San Diego for three years before that, and it has evolved into a Third World country. But with prices rivaling Monaco and NYC. I’ll be joining you in Bangkok as soon as I sell this house!

    Yes, things have really change. I was reminded it's not just Southern California. Things have changed all over the US. I'm not sure that makes me feel any better. It's nice to come back to 1980's prices and small town feel here in Thailand. Even though it's an area of 16 million.

    I didn't know they had a pass. I go to Terminal 21 often. The Cineclub is closest, but the regular price is high. The first showing is often only 150b. The 10pm is usually 200b. T21 is 260b all the time. On movie day, Wednesday, it's 150b? Popcorn is decent. I get the cracker jack style sweet. The only issue is I'm usually there at 10pm. It's not stale, but you can tell it's hours old. I see them bag up the popcorn at 10pm. I wonder where that goes. Maybe to Grab. People order movie popcorn like fast food. I see the drivers at the snack bar

  • @EagerExpat

    You can put 800k in for the first year. Or use an agents money for the first visa. You then need to send at least 65,000 baht each month for a year. You then request to use the monthly income method. I did a detailed video on the Non O for retirement. I'm not sure how a Non OA works. I think you can show that money in a US account. But, it would be hard to pay a landlord without a Thai account. You can pay AirBnB with a US credit card. But, that will be a much higher cost. Ya man, beers sound good. Shoot me a comment in Nov. I'll be around.

  • @EagerExpat

    @EagerExpat

    Ай бұрын

    In Bangkok it's just to easy to get around. Hire a bike for $1, take the train, etc.. The problem isn't the 50k cost of a bike. The problem is the 1 million baht lawsuit when you get in an accident. Even if you have the proper license and insurance. Many people don't. If I lived in a small city like Pattaya, then it may be easier. But in an area of 16 million people, it's more of a hassle than I want.

    I mentioned I love California. I lived there since 1971. I grew up in PB/OB in the 70's we would get dropped off at the beach at 7am and picked up when a parent was driving home at 5pm. We were 11 years old. Only a crazy person would leave there kid at the beach in PB or OB alone these days. That fentanyl has changed everything. I watched PB die in the last 10 years. I had both catalytic converters taken off of two trucks in PB. I'm not sure where you live in San Diego or anywhere in California these days. The crime has gone up 1000% San Diego used to have a small town feel. We made fun of Los Angeles in the 80's and 90's. All the crime was up there. Sure, there are still beautiful parts of the county. But, even in place like La Jolla, my girlfriend had her side window smashed out. No reason. Just so a crackhead could see if there was change in the ashtray. There wasn't. Yet the insurance cost was $500. And a great reason to raise the policy another few hundred a year. I delivered mail at the beach for 30 years. You used to be able to ride your bike and just leave it in the grass in front of a persons house. It was beach code. If you were fortunate to have a small house near the water, you let PB kids, stay a surfboard on the side of the house. Today that board would last maybe 1 hour. It breaks my heart. OB used to be for families. Now it's like a war zone. I almost got knocked down at least 10 times in the Sports Arena area with people running out the front door stealing $999. I still love San Diego, but it would be impossible for me to not see the difference between Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore and Southern California. If you put up a tent in a park in Bangkok, it would last about 20 minutes. There is almost zero crime. Even though the average salary might be $600 month. You can do something stupid over here, like forget to lock your bike at a bar. Take a cab home. Go back the next day and the bike is untouched. Maybe because Bangkok reminds me so much of my childhood days in San Diego I keep mentioning how nice is it to live here. San Diego is still an incredible city. But, it has a 1000 times more problems today than it did even 20 years ago. I know things will never be 1984 again. But, many smarter cities are literally putting a hundred dollar bills in the pocket of the worst they have and passing out one-way bus tickets to Southern California. They even admit it. Some small town in Idaho. Another in Arizona. I wish the best for San Diego. But, it can be so much better. The beaches and parks need to be cleaned up and returned to the community. It doesn't belong to a bunch of 20 year old's that got dumped here. because the local sheriff in another state wanted them gone. So nothing happened to me. Sure I got my trucks vandalized. But, what really happened was, I was there for every year and saw the change. It sure didn't change for the better. That's what's in my heart. I'll never have dislike for San Diego. That will always be home. That's why it hurts so bad. Not all the time. But, maybe 50% of the time, I would see something that would have never happened 10 or 15 years ago. It still doesn't happen in many other cities. Including this city of Bangkok, that is 14 times larger than San Diego. I wrote such a long response to a fellow SD person. We may disagree on the state of the city. I respect your views. I just had a need (for myself) to explain how much I love San Diego. I very much love the US as well. But, because I do care about my city, it hurts me when such problems.

    @@EagerExpati respect that. I don't think most of the stuff you mentioned is a California thing though. I grew up in a very small town and sounds like we grew up similar- leaving doors unlocked and stuff in the front yard without worries. I couldn't do that now in the same small town. Ive also never been to Asia so i can't comment on the crime, but I've heard the exact same thing about the cleanliness and crime. But still not a California thing. That's happening everywhere you'd go in the US. I also wonder how much of that is perceived vs reality. In reality San Diego is a very safe city by all accounts and data. Nowadays people see every little negative thing on the news, twitter, social media etc. To that point, i frequently go down to TJ ( which is how I originally found your channel a few years back) and have never once feel in danger. However, I'd you speak to anyone that's never been, you'll get kidnapped the second you cross. Either way, all the best and love the videos.

  • @EagerExpat

    @EagerExpat

    Ай бұрын

    @@John-sd4ps That's even worse to think if the entire nation has unsafe parks, etc.. I only have San Diego to compare the changes. But, I'm old enough to remember a better way of life. And Bangkok in many ways is what I remember from 10 or 20 years ago in California. I'm with you on Mexico. It does have it's share of problems. Even in the 1980's it had the same issues as today. But, in Mexico, even the gangsters wouldn't let punks live in the town square and scare old ladies and kids. They might be outlaws, but they have a sense of honor. Maybe it's not only a San Diego problem, but it's nice to see that sense of honor alive and well in Thailand. Why one of the greatest countries in the world allows such behavior to be considered routine is what's troubling. Maybe I should replace trouble in San Diego for trouble in the US.

You pick him up and toss him over the fence, stand by to get arrested. It's getting out of control.
