Why is it always about "preparing students for the workforce?" If we focused more on helping each individual develop his or her own unique potential, the "workforce" would take care of itself...and a lot more effectively. Not to mention that people might actually be fulfilled and happy pursuing their own interests. Wow! What a concept!

I used this with new teachers to talk about how students and society view technology integration. This started an awesome conversation. Great video!

I just watched this program on WETA. I think its one of the best shows on the need to evolve learning. It was just great.

21st century education is all about creativity, collaboration, critical and conceptual thinking.

The idea of mixing formal learning with the 21 Century Leaner has me very excited about becoming a teacher. I love technology and I can't wait to share my love of tech toys with my students.

This is great as a starter to inspire teachers on their e-learning PD journey.

Embracing the change, rather than trying to stop it! If only more educators had this approach and insight. South African education, although far from adopting this approach, slowly but surely we will get there.

Great for PD purposes when you are engaged in the conversation about making the shift in practice!!! We are still very much in a 20th century mode of thinking in many of our classrooms

The last comment might well be the most important. "We should not abandon formal learning, but get them (technology and formal learning) working together."

I agree, South African education will get there. We have always had a great respect for education and learning in our country and we love new ideas that empower people. Don't worry, educators are soon going to get there, the numbers are growing all around the world.

I hate when parents say I'm stupid because I only spend my time on the computer, they say "you only play those games all day". I barley ever play games, in fact this video proves that the internet is not just games.

Where did you get the PBS stuff in such a high quality? I watched it on PBS in like 480p, and they didn't have any option to go 720p. It's really awsome in 720p.. =)

I wonder why the role of the teacher librarian in K12 is not surfaced in this discussion. I know that the University of California folks value their research librarians, but most of our schools in California don't have a single educator at the school site that has information literacy expertise at a time when our kids need it the most!

Students should be taught how to becomer computer literate and digitial learners. Technology teaches skills students are lacking while entertaining and engaging in self learning. When students understand the changing trends of technology they will learn they will have to become more tech savvy, creative, and adapt to the social change in society. Parents and students can play a role in enhancing student learning by helping students to learn more about technology and the demand it has on their future in education as well as jobs, and careers.

Nice shout-out to gamers. I remember after 9/11, official reports pointed to a lack of imagination as the source of the some of the failures of the intelligence community to connect the dots of information. At the time, many of my friends and colleagues (who are gamers - both old school RPG and MMORPG) commented that the intelligence community needed more gamers. Nice to see the value of gaming being recognized and acknowledged.

how true!! we want to make students producers and creators and we can do it by integrating technology in classrooms. school is not enough we make students think out of the box. for this purpose we have to bring all stakeholders specially the parents on the board and plan in such a way that students could some exploration or research at home. now a days education and technology goes hand in hand and for this purpose we need parents involvement too.

the idea is great.. but the budget don't.. at least with a country with a heavy corruption issue, such as my country.. nice vids though
