Yes we stain it with Acrylic colors. This is less costly than real rock in that it it save time and labor.

@kkhhoona The reason we dont put integral color is because we get different effects with a polymer laden concrete finish on the rock. We then get a covalent bond with the emulsifying color agent that we apply which react with striations and great color effects.

what paints do you use

@Arteolike Sorry it took so long to reply. We use a method called layering using black and white while we layer the colors achiving the granite look. We also use under layer earth tone colors to achieve different colors of granite.

@pdunnman Ive done hundreds of rock wall in my experience and i love the look. The problem I have is that a lot of customers just couldnt afford the real rock walls and I couldnt seem to charge enough. it took a long time and lot of labor cost to install the rock. if you do it then God bless you. This is a real rock alternative and looks a whole lot better and is stronger than block. 87 percent of all the contractors use block and we all know that block is nothing more than molded concrete.

great technique. My only objection would be an existing natural stone wall, just reset it. And of course always include MORE an necessary drainage for those off years. Remember, we always gamble as to when a retaining wall WILL fail, no matter how well designed. It's always a question of TIME and conditions.

How bad bad did it crack without steel reinforcement. This isn’t even legal where I live without a footer 3 to 4’ wide and 2 #4 bar in the length and every 16” of height

Is there some rule-of-thumb heights you can't go over? I notice the wall is pretty light in the rebar... And you're using the dirt as the back face... That's nice... What would I do if it's just me, I have a long wall, and have to create some cold joint at the end of a day...

I love the look of all the walls shown here. What product do you use to make the rocks look so realistic? Not sure what Acid Stain is and if its available for DYI guys at the local hardware stores? I have a small wall I would like to attempt this on. Also was thinking of a fire pit but not sure about the heat. Would it last and not crack? Cheers!

i have a foundation wall outside the house that's choppy and has a few holes, so i need to resurface and repair the chunks that fell off.. what type of cement mix do i need for this project.. someone advised me for a mix with stones in it..but that didn't do well at all. didn't stick to the wall or anything.

930 scarlet, I am the certified dealer in Calgary, Will be at home Show this weekend, look for Everything Concrete, or check out Stonemakers "locate a dealer", I'm under Canada, somehow they can't get me in Alberta.

The walls at the 6 minute mark LOOK great BUT do not meet the building code. Solid concrete or block walls higher than 1 meter (39 inches) must be on a footing at least 4 feet below grade and they must have rebar. In addition the building inspector insists on approving the footings before any walls are constructed and yes a building permit is required and weeping tile for drainage behind the wall is required. Like I said the walls at the 6 minute mark look lovely but they are not legal where I live and not safe over the long term.

+StoneMakers™ I said the walls do not meet the building code (where I live). That statement is true regardless of the strength or track record of your walls. Your walls could not have a track record here because they cannot be built here.

Very fake and plasticy look, try using real stones the traditional method
