Y'all can thank the overwhelming amount of theft for those security cases. It doesn't matter where the store is located. Thieves will go there and steal while waving at staff. As a retail worker it's frustrating and demoralizing when this happens and we aren't allowed to do anything about it.

When I was a teen we were scared of the police and getting caught stealing. I only shoplifted once and never did it again. Now I see teens in Target just showing makeup in their bags and no one says a thing. Everyone knows now that shoplifters won’t be prosecuted so they don’t even try to be sneaky.

They know that a lot of stores have a policy where the employees are forbidden to try and stop the thieves so these shoplifters will just load on items and walk right out. A lot of these companies have the policy because they don’t want to be held liable if their employee gets hurt or even if the shoplifter gets hurt. Companies have been sued by families of an employee that gotten killed by criminals they tried to stop. The companies have even been sued by the criminals because they sustained an injury from an employee tackling them. It’s crazy.

Back in 2016, I remember working in the mobile dept at Target in a really "affluent" area, and even the prepaid phones had to be locked because people would slice them open and steal them to resell. I also remember this conversation the electronics associate had with a guest. The guest wanted him to open the GoPro case so he could open the box, which is against GoPro policy as everything has to be sold in an original and unopened box, and hence why it was locked in the first place. He said he wanted to touch it and play with it but not buy it since he was going to buy it online anyway. He threw a tantrum when he was told no, you can't open it, and here's why. He said, "but I am going to buy it online, so it doesn't even matter if you open it since you won't make money from me anyway." I never quite understood that logic, but after the complained to Target corporate about it, I completely supported lock cases. I know people have gotten really out of line nowadays, so I don't blame these companies. It is awkward, though, waiting for an associate who isn't happy to be there to come to get the item for you and hold it at the front.

The tiny town walmart near me as of recent got overtaken by some out of town brothas and they got the Walmart to lock up shampoo, detergent, clothes, and even some food items. 4 of them were stealing detergent and dumping it into suitcases and got beaned bagged and the others got tackled for resisting arrest while having a baby inside the car. These things never used to happen in the small town and the town has taken serious notice and have active 24 hour police presence at the Walmart now… they absolutely ruined the Walmart and the Walmart will close if this bs continues to happen.

You can guarantee the stores will close. I used to work in North Charleston. The theft was so bad that the supermarket had to close. People don’t understand that grocery stores have a very thin margin. It doesn’t take a lot of theft before they’re in the red. You cannot continue to operate losing money. North Charleston offered $5 million dollars to any grocery chain that would open on Rivers Avenue. No takers. You reap what you sow.

@@crabbycreates2943up here in Phoenix they are starting to lock up all the laundry detergents, baby formulas, batteries and liquor at most of the drugstores here. Those are 4 of the most stolen items that these boosters will target. Cigarettes also are another item the boosters will target even though they are behind the counter. There’s a Circle K in my neighborhood that got hit twice in one month where a group of people came in armed with only pocket knives went behind the counter and fill trash bags up with all of their cigarettes and other tobacco products. The cashier was telling me that both robberies were suspected as to been committed by one of the group of homeless young adults that live in the park near there. There are literally hordes of the homeless junkies that will just run up in a store all together and literally empty the shelves of items in to garbage bags. A lot of these store have a policy of no backpacks but these individuals will just have garbage bags folded up in their pockets and pull them once they are in the aisles. It’s getting really bad in Phoenix

This is very annoying to have to sometimes wait more than 10 minutes to have someone unlock the door in order to buy the item. In some stores where I have been the employee puts the item in a locked safe bag and escorts the customer to the checkout to pay for the item. This has encouraged me to do more on-line shopping. It is a lot easier for me this way. I go on to the vendor web page, click on the item, click to put it in to the basket, and then click on the basket to purchase. It automatically is charged to my credit card, and I receive it the next day. Sometimes when making an order early in the morning I've received it the same afternoon! All this in the convenience of my home!

  • @psimage2013

In California, a misdemeanor, by definition, is a criminal offense for which the maximum penalty is no more than 364 days in county jail and a fine of not more than $1,000.00. A misdemeanor is more serious than an infraction but less serious than a felony charge. Standard misdemeanors, such as Drug possession (HS 11350) Petty theft (PC 484) Prostitution - Penal Code 647(b) There are also certain crimes known as California “wobbler” offenses. These are crimes that the prosecutor can choose to charge as a misdemeanor or a felony. So it could be a midsemeanor, but because of "POLITICAL" laws. They can consider it a felony. Tell me again how they trivialize the law in California? CAuse I don't see it. They're pretty harsh in some cases. California is also the only state in the United States that holds misdemeanors as serious crimes, which means that even a three misdemeanor charges can leave you facing extremely harsh penalties.

A LONG list of crimes the DA decides whether the crime will be filed as a misdemeanor or a felony. With all due respect I do not know how old you are and it is none of my business, but that is no longer how CA law works. That's the side effects of decriminalization and leniency from the department of Justice. You will start with prioritized calls for emergency response. You will then move to phone or digital reporting with no response of things that have been classified as non-violent under the Justice department legislative leniency. You'll eventually run out of incarceration space for violent offenders which will result in release of lower end violent offenders. Much of that's a result from demonizing capital punishment. The list is long on why this is happening.

The Walmart near my house locks up shampoo, medicine etc. When you can finally find an employee to get the item out you want, they put it in a locked plastic box which you have to take to the cashier to unlock and then pay for it. I rarely shop at the Walmart near me. I will either go to Target or the Walmart, thats one town over from me. Its unfortunate, because of a few bad people the rest of us must suffer. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all those who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self-improvement by hard work and self-reliant can- do nature. I honestly can't really blame them because I feel the same disgust. So wherever there are a lot of democrats who don’t believe in traditional value systems to where criminals are not punished, teens are not disciplined, and have leaders who let wokeness run their policies, you will have stores that do this before they close down. It’s funny how they said they had a shortage of employees there, is that because of the raise of the minimum wage to where you hire less people for the same amount? Is it because the economy is trash due to raising the minimum wage and therefore adding to inflation? Is it because we let people raid and loot stores as a form of “protest” and say “it’s ok, they’re just outraged” and leaders across America let this happen? But you know what, this is what happens when you misunderstand “tolerance” with “being lied to and taken advantage of “. Call out the BS where you see it and take back your country with voting with information, not with misinformed feelings!

One time, I was at a Walmart store and they had the shaving stuff locked up and I waited over an hour for someone to unlock the case, more often than not a staff member never shows up and when when a staff member did show up, they wander why I wanted to buy shaving stuff. Hello! I'm sorry, I don't have the key! I'm sorry, but the manager who has the key is gone for the day! On and on. I left the cart full of merchandise and walked out. I never went back. Any time I go into a store and everything is under lock and key, I just simply walk out. In my opinion, stores that do that don't need my business.

It looks like this is at least a year old and the problem is getting worse. I've reached a point where I'm feeling like it's easier to just order online. I have had to wait up to 20 minutes for a single item. When that's happening, it can take hours just for a simple stock up trip.

Locking everyday items up doesn't just deter thieves. It also deters regular shoppers. If I have to go find an employee and ask them to open a cabinet every time I want to look at a product, read the label, etc., I'll skip buying it in the store and just order it online.

Self checkout because stores didn't/don't want to pay labor costs for humans to operate registers but then they want customers to wait for an associate to come unlock cabinets. Have stores looked in to supply chain loss or do they have data proving this is necessary? No, not that they'll publish publicly.

Hire armed security officers, have the following amount. 2 armed security officers inside the loss prevention office(security camera office), 3-5 at each entrance, and 5-7 per dept. or the better, option would be to build newer stores based on depts within the stores for example, take walmart supercenters, get rid of the supercenters and create walmart stores like below the same goes for all supercenters and retail stores 1-deli/bakery store. 1-electronic store 1-grocery store(no general merchandize 1-general merchandize store 1-pharmacy. 1-garden store. 1-hardware 1-auto 1-sport/exercise store. then hire armed security guards and check every single customer checking out and pat down them easy and simpe.

For myself, I will from now on try to buy items in bulk so that I only need to buy them once or twice a year. Bad for the store due to me not being there to see what new items they're trying to convince me to buy, but I've reached the point where I just don't care anymore. The reports about shoplifting are overblown. I'm not saying there's none, but it's high likely it's not as bad as they say. So, if I'm going to have to wait 20 minutes or so for the one underpaid employee who has the key to all the locks, who just went on lunch 3 minutes before I walked up and they have to find them from somewhere, then I'm going to stock up on the item so I don't have to waste my time doing the same thing next week or month.

I still blame these stores!!!!!....hear me out. They can all afford to have each department monitored with armed security. They do NOT want to PAY humans to protect their goods. The reason police don't care is because they abused them for free security. I am not making this up. In my college town(2008), the police complained that the only Walmart was taking up at least 60 percent of their calls. The police made a stand and said we don't work for them. They said they will serve and protect the citizens. Not the billion dollar retail stores. This is over a decade ago. Walmart's refusal to staff, pay a livable wage, and hire human Security is the reason for this. They had over a decade to find a solution. I don't sympathize with thieves. But this is not about "shoplifters". The shoplifters are the fall guys. They are the ones that set up organized crime. This way they can collect insurance and sell the same products they stole from themselves. Everybody stealing.
