    Oh yea so america crime free is it. Slow your roll cowboy . Try look for the actual cause and get real about fixing the problem. If your going to add your voice to the discussion why not put some substance into your contribution. How about pressure politicians to put policies in place to address growing inequality and poverty , which is what is driving the crime spike . It's really quite simple . But it means they have to comebup with alot of social investments that don't look good on the books because they don't produce immediate dollar value to a business focused agenda. We all want the same thing .

    Let shop keepers defend themselves & their property without fear of shop keepers being charged with assault. Is it time for New Zealand police to start wearing sidearms?

    Police is totally useless. My friend's e-bike(5k cost) was stolen, we made a claim straightaway and in hour we found his bike on facebook market, we contacted the seller pretending to be a buyer and agreed to meet each other at some location. We called to police asking to provide anyone to assist but police refused. They even don't want to act when everything is organised to catch the thief. We went to the place we agree to meet but the thief in't come. He message me later that he had problem and couldn't make it. We discussed to meet each other the next day, and the same story, we called to police asking for assistance and didn't get any. I even got phone number of the thief and offer it to police officer to let them continue but they also told us that the thief could recognise the police officer and it doesn't make sense the to call. They simply put on our shoulders their responsibilities, why we pay the taxes for this piece of a crap named police. They simply push us to solve our problems but I bellive they will not be hot happy if we tart doing that.

    Unfortunately a stolen e-bike is not high priority, sad to say but it will be a waste of resources having police out setup just to catch a thief 🤷‍♀️

    @@hereforfun7806 Yeah, totally agree if government returns back the taxes he paid just the same amount my friend paid for that bike. It would be fair. He pays taxes they MUST solve the problems if they don't he shouldn't pay anything for the useless service. And FYI, that guy is very known person in police. They told us that this is not his first time and if you check nzherald you will find article about that thief and there is a photo from the cameras from the place where my friend's bike was stolen.

    @@hereforfun7806 Your an absolute tool. We pay taxes and the police should be out on the beat and absolutely help catch a criminal. I had a similar situation. Got my car broken into and bag stolen. Called the police and got told flatly no help. 40mins later to file a report over the phone. After that i walked into the shop got the thiefs mugshot off the cam. Drove around looking. but 40mins too late. I put the guys pic on facebook. Had it taken down and warned by the police on vigilante action. Its not hard if you actually do some work. Something the police are no where to be found. And yet we hear them asking for more pay.

    Do they really realize that it’s a deep-rooted cultural issue that they’re talking about? Violent crimes have been rampant here in NZ, where morality is very low. It’s a no-brainer that prevention is infinitely better than treatment. Unless the core of the problem is recognized and addressed, there will never be a real solution.

  • @AAL3087

    @AAL3087

    Yep, it's the only long term solution. What are the root causes of crime. Crime's not just being done for Crimes sake, there;s an element of poverty, desperation and such cultural/communoity issues. No LT thinking by this government with their short/single term 'stick' solutions. Can we fast forward already and achieve nothing?!

    I think this is a good idea, and I think Sunny Kaushal is a good option to lead that team due to all the hard work he has done over the past few years advocating for victims of retail crime. I hope that they are successful and come up some good policies that help to make working in retail safer, retail crime harder and less lucrative, punishments sufficient and retail safer for all law abiding people.

    So will these policies address the poverty and inequality that drives the crime in communities . Poverty goes up , crime goes up. That formula has been true as long as history has existed. Or same old national lip service and ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. Unfortunately the businesses problem is a side effect of the real issues .

  • @JD-wx3pk

    Well if the Government stopped taxing Tobacco so heavily and fixed the housing crises, perhaps these crimes wouldn't be so recurrent. Obviously these things shouldn't occur at all, but when the division between the rich and poor grows to an exponential extent, don't think these crimes will go down, they will exponentially increase.
