Resurfacing a Super Smash Brothers Melee Disc With the Venmill Hybrid 2.0

Ойындар

Recently got this machine for my store and I decided to show results. Gamecube games are always hit or miss for these machines and haven't seen much videos on the hybrid 2.0 so here you go.

    JFJ is good for the price. Can't comment how well they work in the USA but being USA made and "modded" to work in Europe on the higher voltage I found they can be a bit fond of blowing fuses.

    The Hybrid is $2000, get the JFJ Easy Pro for $150 instead. Or if you just have the one disc that needs to be fixed, take it to a used video store or retro games store. They should have a disc repair machine, and you can usually have them fix it for you for a $2-3 fee.

I work at a library and so far I'd say I like the Hybrid more than the VMI 3500s we've had for 11 years..... besides the cleaning part! My hands are powder white for days afterwards! Also for the people reading- you get some disc spray and a cloth with this machine. Takes the excess goop right off!! Thanks

    7:35 - I sometimes get this error message on my two copies of the GameCube version of 4x4 Evo 2 (I've had my first copy of it since 2013 when I started playing games on my Jet Black Nintendo GameCube, but after a while, it started having reading problems during the load screens for tracks, and I bought another copy of it in early 2016 as a backup in case I don't ever get around to fixing the first one, but several months ago, it also began having the same issues, so could both of them be scratched?) This is a good solution, but it is faaaar too expensive, so I'll look for something else as I've been trying to find a versatile disc cleaner that allows mini DVDs and GameCube game discs to be repaired.

    Each time that machine polishes the disc it eats a layer of polycarbonate substrate from the protective layer above the data. This will likely be a big problem in the future as more and more people use these machines. I'd guess that 5-6 times would eat into the data layer, rendering the disc unplayable.

  • @TheEvilPenguinGamer

    2 possibilities why that repair took so long. #1 - the disc was warped to begin with and eventually the hybrid made the warp less enough for laser to be able to read #2 - when the disc came out spinning funny 1st time, because you didn't put the disc into the adapter properly, this created an uneven surface on the disc which required much more further repair to even out.

  • @Browncurse

    @Browncurse

    3 жыл бұрын

    I can't recommend the hybrid 2.0 over the jfj since their use scenarios are much different. The Hybrid needs constant use because the compound can get dry within the tube used to distribute if it isn't drained before long periods of inactivity. Pretty much if you will only clean casually and periodically the JFJ will be fine, but if you need something for more constant use the Hybrid will work better. The Hybrid doesn't leave nearly as many marks btw.

  • @TheEvilPenguinGamer
    @TheEvilPenguinGamer4 жыл бұрын

    I had the hybrid 1 but found it wasn't cost effective for deep scratches so sent it back. Didn't like the polish left in middle either when its advertised as discs come out ready to be put back in case. Also when I tried to use it on a disc sanded by JFJ, it didn't polish all the sanded area, left some behind, but other machines were able to polish it all away. Whatever way the pads are on it, it looks like it should polish closer to centre but it doesn't, I think because the pads go too far and sit a bit on the discs ridge.

    It worked for me. It did have some issues. 1 In a retail setting it would often overheat and make the customer wait longer. 2. PS1 games are hit or miss, As in it would leave them swirly and the disc working is 50'50. 3. Gamecube games required you manually changing the plates. This machine needs a simple external adapter. Pretty much for a simple Ebay store or collector the JFJ Easypro is a great fit. Many of the easier 1 step machines require more use or the supplies perish easier.

    I300MHEADSH0T hello that wii we use to test all wii and GameCube games. something we were doing off screen to make sure is first the wii on camera then the GameCube off camera. we just used the GameCube exclusively afterwards because during the wii sensor bar was being funny. but still the disc was deeply scratched. the machine itself is cool. it auto dries the disc unlike the easypro but leaves Polish in the non data layer.

    Sorry for an 8 month later response!Some discs are just trashed! We have this machine at work (library) and it really depends on the disc condition. Minor scratches only need like a 30 second or 1 min buff. Games with circular scratches can be buffed for numerous 2 min or more cycles and still have visible scratches.

    Hey Browncurse, I was hoping you could share some of your wisdom. I also have VMI Hybrid, but unfortunately the line that carries the buffing solution has clogged from not being used for some time. After weeks of trial & error, I've had the best results shooting hot water through the tubes with a dental water pick, but it's not quite enough to clear it 100%. I'm thinking of shooting some seltzer water or vinegar to break up the clog, but I don't want to harm machine. Do you have any advice on clearing a clogged line? Much appreciated. Thanks again!

    After resurfacing GC or Wii discs, Did you noticed a noise while reading your resurfaced discs? That gave me errors eventually that actually is annoying. Compare it to one of your brand-new GC disc never resurfaced between the fixed one. IMO, It could work with any platform game such as XBOX (360), PS2/PS3, and Dreamcast; but I have very bad experience after resurfacing ANY NINTENDO game discs.

  • @Browncurse

    @Browncurse

    7 жыл бұрын

    Never noticed a difference between a resurfaced game and normal with the console reading. However, from personal experience. Nintendo CDs in general tend to be way more finicky. As in it has a much finer line of when it will work and when it won't compared to PS2 or 360 for example

  • @JnL_SSBM

    @JnL_SSBM

    That made me understand that you've already heard the difference between a resurfaced game and the normal with GC reading for the first time. Right?

  • @Browncurse

    @Browncurse

    7 жыл бұрын

    I haven't heard a difference while a console has played a resurfaced game. It sounds the same to me. My point was that GC/Wii discs tend to have less of a leeway when it comes to scratches compared to others on how scratched they can be. Like GC discs tend to need to have all scratches removed before it will play again, while PS2 and 360 can have some scratches and still work.

  • @JnL_SSBM

  • @Browncurse

    It could also be the machine that was used, Some don't leave a flat surface like others and it can affect the finnickyness the discs have. Also some machines can widen the inner ring if the disc is not put in right and that can make GC's/wiis not read the disc.

    Where are you located and could I send you my game so you can repair it? I've already went to a few games stores around me and they all say they don't mess with gamecube games because they will most likely cause more damage. The way I see it is if you have patience like you do in this video it can be done.

    Data Layers are still bonded over and protected. There are multiple data-layers, but the bottom layers are still bonded to plastic. Otherwise, the slightest scratch would render the disk unreadable. The level of storage there is at 320nm, with a 405nm laser. To put this into scale, a nanometer is one trillionth of a meter, so data storage at 320nm, for your naked eye to see, would need to be magnified greater than 2000x times.

    Used video game store, Any resurfacing machine could have problems honestly, GC games tend to be higher risk because of extra accessories needed to make them work again. That and they seem to be much more picky than other types of discs.

    It does have flaws, mostly that it can be very slow. It has fixed pretty much every major GC game that came in, we had another smash that we had someone else with an azuradisc machine try and fix it and they could not make it work. So after we got this one we tried it and after like 5 mins of buffing it worked again.

    When you like playing classic games you kinda have to have the physical copy there are some old game you can but digital copy on PS3 but not all some people like playing older games like Mario and sonic or even dragonballz tenkaichi 3 that don’t have digital updates but I kinda get what your saying but a lot of people still love the classics that have no digital download and probably never will so that why people still have older system or ones that plays the games

  • @Browncurse

    When doing research on what to get, we actually called RTI first from their website but they started saying that another company is selling their stuff in the U.S. Had no interest in playing a who is who game. Plus Venmill was willing to include their gamecube adapter for free so that made the hybrid 2.0 the winner.

  • @mansamusa5197

    i have an eco pro 2 and rti are nothing but pimps. that key card make sure that you have to buy chemicals from them forever. and the prices that they charge for the chemicals and those cheap little pads are a joke. the machine works fine on discs that are already at least good but no way it would have fixed that disc that well unless you ran it ten minutes. you never basically own the machine and when you really figure the price of repair its very expensive. not only that they give you 2 sets of pads that are suppose to last 300 minutes but only last about 200 before they break down. The kits come in 800 minute packs. How can 2 sets of pads last last 800 that can barely last 400. They dont. You order more and before you know it youre spending at least 200 bucks a month on chemicals easy.

    Sadly i don't know. It's hard to try another machine even they all cost thousands but i couldn't recommend an eco pro 2 to anyone unless they can hack the chip. Otherwise you'll just get pimped by the company with supplies. The company barely has any video or reviews for any of their machines. The eco pro 2 is worth no more than 500 bucks if you ask me.

    The Hybrid also uses the time card thingies. After using this thing for close to 2 month, I don't like it but I kind of understand why they do it. With the hybrid it keeps track of when the water will need replacing assuming you filled it and also when the polish needs changing. As long as you use the same supplies it will keep track of your stuff. At the same time the JFJ didn't need it though. It is what it is.
