Restoring my Grandfather's Old Hatchet
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I found this when were moving out of our old shop and into the new one. It's my grandfather's old hatchet that was sitting back by all of the gardening equipment. The handle was about to fall off and the stand/holder thing seemed kinda janky to me.

If I were your Grandfather, I would be very thrilled and proud that you would take the time to restore/refurbish one of my tools, nicely done sir. Thank you for the video.
Recently I also restored a hatchet that belonged to my grandfather, and later to my father. It's a great emotion. Congratulations from Brazil!
Great tribute to your grandfather. Loved the work.
This is an old school framing hatchet, as opposed to an axe. The "nog" is for pulling nails, axes don't have these nogs. We used these hatchets in place of hammers, up until the early 80's. Also similar to roofing hatchets, which would add holes along the top straight edge for shingle spacers.
Who knew that an axe and it's stand could be a work of art! Thank you for sharing. I love both of your channels.

Very nicely done, the hatchet and stand looked really lovely, and I think that your Grandfather would really respect and appreciate what you've done!
This was awesome. It's like a piece of art you would have standing in your living room. Great work. Thanks for showing this to us ❤️
I love that you honor your grandfather’s tool! You are a master who, naturally always will, create masterpieces 😍😍😍😍

Will he be working his grandfather's tool in the shed?
You did a beautiful job in restoring this piece of your grandfather's history and now it's a piece of yours.
Makes me happy to see something well loved. Hopefully your grandkids will do the same for this old hatchet when we’re gone.
Good job . Grandpa would be proud
Great Video Restoration Station!
When you are someone's grandfather and they find this beautiful axe, I hope they restore it with as much care as you did.
That was like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly. Spectacular work mate. You should be proud. 👌😍
Very good work. Your grandfather would be proud of you. Thanks. Best wishes from Germany
Great job. A few things I really liked about this resto and one tool suggestion. I like that you took the time on a hatchet that was born to be a cheap workhorse in somebody's garage. I like that you didn't give it a mirror polish, but instead gave it a good looking, practical finish. I like that you didn't feel pressured to cut and shape your own handle, there's nothing wrong with a store-bought handle, and you spiffed it up nice and correct. My suggestion is on the removal of the finish that came on it: a card scraper would make short work of that instead of sandpaper. Once again, great job, I really enjoyed this.
This is no longer just an old axe, it is a part of history! Keep the videos coming.
Du beau travail et un bel hommage a votre grand-père, bravo.
That should keep it in good order for your grandson or granddaughter. Great job.
Brilliant, a piece of art you can display!👏🏻
That brass insert and the leather strap really added so much to the finished look. A nice little restoration.

Grandfather would be proud brother. Outstanding job 🔥👍🔥
Despite the many mentions of this tool being an axe, I still possess a near identical tool that I inherited from my father, who was a builder and roofer for most of his life. He always called it his slating hammer and when I once offered to put a sharp edge on the blade, he told me to never sharpen it, as it was supposed to be a rounded edge and be used to create assorted shapes and sizes from plain rectangular stone roofing slates as required for decorative patterns on roofs. He would use the same tool for different types of slates from the usual Welsh blue slates and the Cumberland green slates to the older more locally sourced Riven Yorkshire Sandstone slabs and even occasionally he worked with Cornish random slates (which he always described as a miserable flaky stone to work with).
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful work. Great to watch from start to finish.
Nice, grandpa would be proud. Thanks for sharing 👍

When you started to make the wooden housing for the ax, I was like.... ;Cool. He is going to use a hand saw'. Then I burst out laughing when you pulled out the circular saw, lol. Wonderful restoration. Thanks for sharing.

@@RestorationStation I was thinking how hard is that wood that he needs a big hypoid saw to cut it. Have to use what's available right.
That brand is an Ace Hardware hammer! Never knew they could look so good, great job!
Very nice. Over and above for sure.
Man I love those doe foot handles.

If you bought an axe in 1903, replace the head in 1906, then the handle breaks in 1913 and is replaced, do you still have the same axe from 1903? Deep thoughts...

Hello! Make a video of what chemistry and for what, the paint you use in the restoration... Please :)
one of the best restoration
Gorgeous a thing of beauty obviously with much love
never shake your clear finishes, always stir this lessens the possibility of bubbles
Very nice!!
Your grandpa would be proud! 👍
If you make another, I’d love to see the wood waxed with carnauba wax! The sheen that comes from the burnish of that hard wax is just beautiful
Nicely done.
Yup totally using that stand idea for my restoration projects
You don't see roofing hatchets often anymore. Well done 👍
Well done!
Great work..looks nice...
That is fucking NICE. Your grandfather would have been so proud to see how talented his grandson is…. All the best !!!!

Very good restoration 👍
I’ve watched quite a few of this type video lately and this was as good as any of them
Well done but it would be nice if you could add some text to tell us what exactly it is that you're doing and what products you are using. Cheers
Wow the hatchet came out bad ass an the stand came out very nice
Wow! Very impressive. That True Temper is new now! Good job my friend
Perfect thanks 👍
Very, but very nice job, man; not only the hatchet is now in very nice condition but also looks awesome... True Temper is a brand I like very much, great tools. Warm regards from Mexico.
Very nice roofing hatchet, for flat polishing; use a piece of granite for a backing as you will get a truer surface.
Grande restauração, beleza 👏👏👏🇧🇷
Ready for display at the art gallery!
BRAWO! Perfekcyjna praca
Very nice👍
excellent job 100%
Très beau, bravo.
nice job!
Nice. I have a Winchester hatchet similar to that from 1924. It’s razor sharp, in original condition but with a new custom hickory handle. I just throw it under the front seat of my truck. Never know when you’ll need a good sharp pre war hatchet.
The only way this would have been any better is if you put a name plate honoring your grandfather on the stand…amazing video!!! That turned out gorgeous!!!
Bravo!
