Restoring my Coal Forge

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a forge I picked up a while back, I was told it came from the Yukon- White Pass railroad station which is neat. Overall the blower was in good condition, but I did have to do some clean up and forge a few parts for the rest of the forge. There are still plenty of things I could clean up more, or remake like the wooden handle, but for the time being it works perfectly and a little extra patina looks good at a demo.
looking forward to playing around with this forge more in the future!

It turned out great! Next time you do something like this, leave the Ospho on the bare steel and dont wash it off. It will stop the rusting but it has an odd color when dry. We paint over Ospho up on the drilling rigs on the slope.

The ospho left some cloudy gunk that needed to be washed off. I sprayed it down with wd40 after. Went ok

I know this cloudy gunk you speak of. It likes to get painted over with oil based paint.

You’ll want to make a pass through/cutouts on both sides to allow for the full benefits of spot heating/forging

Some people fill pipe with sand to keep it round while they bending it. Nice restoration Liam! Beautiful forge!
