Restoring and styling an American Girl doll with Curly Hair (tutorial)

Ойын-сауық

I’ve so excited about this doll ever since I found her and I’m so happy that she restored so beautifully! We have a bit more work to do with her nose but she’s almost as good as a brand new doll :) at least for me! I hope this video can serve as a bit of a tutorial if you’re trying to fix your own AG!

    You did a great job! She’s so beautiful!! I have switched to the American Girl hair pick after going through three brushes. The pick has a plastic handle and metal picks and works super on wet hair. Then I use the AG brush on dry hair. They are sold also on Amazon and the last I purchased was for seven dollars. I use it with all wet doll hair.

    Yes! I use a magic eraser and scrub the vinyl entirely! it’s the best to reset the vinyl to its original state and make it nice and smooth. I never use a toothbrush unless there’s stuck food or glitter on the mouth etc. And for shine marks if the magic eraser doesn’t take them off then I use Micro Mesh on wet vinyl to get rid of them. But I always enjoy watching other people’s restoration videos and how they like to do it.

    Love the AG content 😊 Also, I HIGHLY recommend investing in a small, cheap clothes steamer if anyone wants to straighten ag doll hair but is nervous with boiling water - it works wonderfully, especially if you are only trying to heat certain parts (like leaving curled ends and bangs alone). Just make sure to hold it at least and inch or two from the hair (aka don’t literally press it into the hair fibers).

    Just dropping a quick note that Volks and Azone are completely different companies! The water wax is sold through Volks, which produces Dollfies and other hobby items ~ I was in Japan earlier this year and my husband bought some hair wax (for humans) - when he felt the water wax he noticed how similar it was to the kind he bought for himself! So basically Japanese hair products are just top tier all around 🥳

    Magic Erasers are melamine sponges. They don’t give the same finish as fine grit sandpaper. If that was true, the vinyl would get super shiny with a magic eraser and it’s actually the opposite that happens. So please stop equating magic erasers with sandpaper, that’s misinformation. I’ve restored over 50 AG dolls of all kinds from old PC dolls to modern dolls using Magic Erasers and they’re perfectly fine to use on the vinyl parts, you can wash the face with a magic eraser using a light hand and the paint isn’t going to some off. I would never use a toothbrush on a doll face, unless there was food or glitter/makeup stuck on the mouth etc.

  • @xCanadensis

    @xCanadensis

    2 ай бұрын

    Look up every! Single! Website! That explains what a magic eraser is and it’ll tell you it’s like fine grit sandpaper LOL. Melamine is a “white crystalline structure”. It’s a new kind of sandpaper. It’s perfectly safe to use for many use cases! But it’s extremely reckless to just recommend it for everything - that’s how people get holes in their wall paint and destroy their dolls. Saying you think a toothbrush is worse on a doll than a new version of sandpaper is wild 😀
