    It is the cyclic hydroxamic acids that affects rust.. But seriously, much cheaper easier and quicker is vinegar. Degrease, immerse in vinegar over night job done. Rinse, dry, a tad of wire wool is all that is needed! In the trade we have been using vinegar for decades, probably since it was first made.

    I was also considering doing vinegar but wanted to try the molasses anyway apparently it has a much lower risk of damaging the surface or your part than vinegar does.
