What a beast he brought back from the brink. It's an amazing restoration of the guts while leaving the finish rough.

Used to be in The Antique trade and this is the sort of thing I love , how to restore something that's really past redemption but let's do it. Good video.

My paternal grandfather loved the Shell opera hour on Sundays after the roast and the whole farm reverberated with the tick tock of the immense old grandfather clock in the hall, great memories!

The sloppy veneer around the clock face is far below the usual quality level of Alex's work. Too bad

this is so awful i cant stop watching it, i grew up in a antique shop environment, so from early childhood i messed about with all sorts, i took a city and guilds apprenticeship in cabinet making, i ran my own shop and auction rooms, i am still running a shop and restoring more for fun now as i am mid 70,s, apart from the fact that you cant restore something that should be burnt, the work is xxxx.

I would have created a veneer solid ring to go around the glass. The base, clock and top look great.

Alex is a lovely lad but some of the work I've seen him do looks a bit .. basic, not hugely sensitive .. and here, clever as it is, that veneer round the clock door is not at all great.. sorry

This was painful to watch. While the mirror-to-glass was clever, the veneer work looked like it had zero thought and it shows. But what is beyond me is why he would use that much mahogany for a base, and then COVER it with a hideous stain that is closer to a paint than a tint. Why spend so much on an expensive wood known for its beauty and just cover it up? This is a Pimp My Ride of woodworking. The supplies are outrageous, but the use of them is mindbogglingly pointless. I would not normally get worked up about this sort of thing - if it was an amateur showing off his work on a personal KZread I would be pained but understand we all start somewhere. But this is presented like this is an experienced expert. Ooof

Alex did a great job, but I hate the veneer sections. That frame for the glass is naff. Sorry, but it really is. And the stain colour for it is off, as well.

This clock reminds me of German towns - is it by any chance one of those clocks the towns and villages have on the main street or outside the council buildings?? Or is it Austria where I have seen them. Anyway, a very handsome clock!!!!

what's the point of restoring a piece of rubbish with no redeeming features. Would he have restored it if it wasnt part of a TV series? nah. Don't get me wrong, it's a great show and you learn heaps, but this was a bit of a joke.
