Restoring a DESTROYED Harley-Davidson FXR Fairing!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Restoring a DESTROYED Harley-Davidson FXR Fairing!...FINALLY after a whole year we are working on the Harley-Davidson FXR fairing once again. This fairing is in need of some saving and working with ABS plastics makes this adventure something most would rather pass on. But for these FXR fairings they are becoming dinosaurs so finding a better one with less damage isn't really in the cards unless we win the lotto. So cheers! Let's dive into this project and get the Harley-Davidson FXR looking more...FXRT! #harleybuild #harleydavidson #fxr

Definitely a winner in my book and blended so smooth with everything on the dash. 83 FXRT now that is sweet but the projects are never finished!

I ended up using jb weld 2 part plastic epoxy in black for mine. So far holding up great. About 4000 miles. Keep up the vids man. Mines a 89 FXRT.

I was wondering, Is there any way to tell what year, like a stamp on the fairing?

Consider this other useless information and please wait for real answer from Freebirds Garage. Manufacturers of molded components such as any one part of this assembly (fairing). Use date calendars or lot code records molded into the part so if a component has an issue for quality, fit or function it can be processed with all like items potentially sharing the same issue. Like say something holding up proper assembly. These calendars are usually round with numbers much like a clock face. By locating one of these and looking closely for an indicator (mark) like a clock hand. You have a record of the date each part was molded. Now bear in mind that components may go to many different assembly part numbers and be stored for years before becoming a part of a fairing and you have a good investigating tool for figuring out something like this when the answer is NO or no one has any idea... I'm sorry for the rant it just what modern pharmacology has to offer an old man who has been blessed with ADHD and OCD... SORRY J...

The shape of the lower cutouts can give it away, there was a slight difference between 35mm fork fairings and 39mm fork farings, with there being a bit more space available down low. This variation of the FXR fairing (with speaker holes and integrated glovebox) started in 1986 on the FXRD and I believe some FXRT's got it later on too. There's also a difference in the main FXR mount to frame between 35 and 39mm bikes.

@@jimmyrustles8118 I was wondering because I had lowers put on my BlackBerry 86FXRD, I kind of thought it would be stamped on the bottom. I'm the original owner and Still own that bike in its original condition

I did double check the inside of the fairing while it's empty and there is no stamping. 86 and up had the center radio with the speakers above the fairing and in 87' the radio was updated to DIN radio. Also, premium speakers.
