Restoring a 1969 VW Beetle for my Grandma's 79th Birthday (Part 2) (ep.6)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hey Guys!
You may already know us. We're the same weirdos as The Siren's Log where we dive, fish, sail and are currently looking for our future sailboat. We had a short run of videos go viral and gained a good share of subscribers rather quickly, and then every time that we'd do VW videos after that, we actually lost some of you. We realized that there was no reason why we shouldn't share our unexpected VW reality over here with you, but only to the ones of you who love it. So here we are. Another VW Channel. A good ol spin-off from The Siren's Log.
Thanks for being here. Enjoy the show.

The pushrod was a huge difference in the way it ran. The “Parts Guy” was a cool dude and super helpful in knowledge. Not to mention actually having a spare pushrod for a beautiful price! Can’t wait for Grandma to get it!

We love Marty! So we expected her coming this way today for the VW meetup and we’d give it to her there as a surprise with everyone there, but now she’s not coming because it’s cold. 🫠 so….. Missed the birthday, now she doesn’t get it at the meet-up…. I have no idea at this point. Just want it to be special and be a surprise but now we have to figure out when makes sense.

There are Chrome Molly push rods available. They don’t flex under stress. That is what I bought for hot rod my VW. I used drive on ramps for the rear, It makes it easier to pull and install the motor from underneath the VW. When doing regular maintenance like brake and valve adjustment’s I used 4 jack stands. Jack stands come in different weight requirements.

If you score the paint around the antenna plug with an exact knife or scalpel, the paint won’t be so bad, and the seal with the antenna will cover the edge of the paint, keeping it from peeling any time soon.

Your drivers door might have a broken handle. There’s a plastic lever connected to the outside release that cracks and won’t push the release hard enough to open the door. Find a good used one.

Thank you!!! We actually figured it out. In our next video, you'll see how I shifted the little metal plate inside the door frame out some, and that helped a good bit. Please put the fuel filter in the right place,...up by the tank and not in the engine bay....I've seen too many fires from this practice. Also, safety wired the fuel inlet hose at the carb. as this is another place that causes fires...don't ask how I know...

I will show your comment to Hal, and we’d had several people mention that in the previous video. We actually took it to a few VW meetups with VW mechanics and all of them agreed that it was far enough away that it wouldn’t hurt anything, so Hal left it alone. Of course, I’m the one who worries because I’m NOT the mechanic and I don’t know. Hahaha
