I wish Old Comiskey Park could of gotten remodeled like Wrigley Field instead of destroyed

Even if you could have waived a magic wand and made Comiskey Park brand new, it would still have needed to be replaced. There were simply too many obstructions and seats with limited views of the field. For every good seat at Comiskey (and there were some awesome seats!) there were about 5 bad ones. I loved the old park. It was a great place to hang out on a summer day and it looked beautiful after a fresh paint job, but the new park is a far superior place to watch a game, after all the renovations.

@@Alvious Personally, I'd rather have obstructed views of the field (present at Wrigley too) than have an upper deck that makes you feel like you're a mile away from the action (the new Sox park, though it is a lot better now after they knocked out several of the top rows from the original new upper deck). That said, there were definitely problems with the old yard, particularly how outdated and limited the concourses and concessions were. There were also no suites or anything like that there. Still, I feel it had a chance to be renovated a few years later and live on to this day.

I think they literally couldn’t renovate it anymore old Comiskey structure got to the end of it’s useful life causing the AL to force the White Sox’s to be in a new ballpark by 1992

Ricketts did a fine job of renovating the best ballpark in the world. Though the team sucks right now but we'll be back into contention very soon.

i can't believe we didn't do something like this with tiger stadium instead of knocking it down and leaving it as a grass field. damn shame

njbznot I understand what youre saying but what they are doing to Wrigley is demolishing parts of it and rebuilding a different Wrigley Field in its place. To me the history of the park has been destroyed.

njbznot Tiger Stadium was located in a run down area. attendance was horrible. Wrigley Field was always full of people.

Robert Thompson where would they build it? Unlike Yankee Stadium, Wrigley is located in a neighborhood without a sea of parking where they could build a new stadium. The only large open swath of land near Wrigley Field is adjacent to a cemetery (a pretty poor location for a baseball park if you ask me).

+soulofthebang um no bad idea, as a Cub fan I would not want to see the Cubs play in a replica of Wrigley Field, and to have them play at The Cell for a year? Hell no the White Sox ballpark absolutely blows compared to Wrigley Field. That's the whole reason Wrigley Field is so legendary because people like the old feel of it, the fact that it's such an old ballpark is so cool and you can't get that feel unless you go to Wrigley or Fenway. I'm happy with the renovations they're doing now, it's going to be great when it's all done

Awesome. Much better than tearing it down and building a new stadium. and it turned out great.

Glad i'll be visiting this September. Back to my hometown, Chicago after leaving 38 years ago!

I have to admit I was wrong ater seeing in detail what they actually did to renovate the stadium and I am actually really impressed and realizing it just about is a brand new Wrigley, and your point about the parking is something I totally did not give enough consideration.

I like these renovation to this stadium, a perfect mix of modern and old-school

You're to watch a baseball game not be treated like a price when pooping. Who cares what other clubs are doing, this is a piece of history that really shows how the game used to be played and by some of the best, you are all making this

It's almost a complete rebuild. How much more do you need to know?

They need to renovate Wrigley Field I may no longer be a Cubs fan but I do love Wrigley Field because it has so much history in it and it was my first ballpark I went to for a game so it stays with me all my life. They definitely need to renovate Wrigley Field right now.

This is much needed, last time I was there all the drunk cub fans were pissing on their feet because their horse trough urinals were over flowing.

I was there last friday and as a huge Cubs fan I must say I enjoy the true fans coming in both Cubs Cardinal games I have been to I have done a lot of chatting and laughing with Cardinal Fans. I am sure there are rude people at every stadium but overall from my experiences its a good time...

Everyone jokes about the Cubs, but this ballpark needs to remain. So many old ballparks have just been demolished, but this one has so much history. Please just restore it.

I get to Wrigley atleast once a year and last Friday against the Cards was my yearly trip. I took my oldest son and we had a blast Wrigley is a beautiful place and everyone should have the experience of watching a ball game from there. With that said this video hit my concerns dead on. We went on a bus trip to the stadium so we set up in the 500 level. Normally I get way better. Up in the 500 sections the seats are all rusty looking. Love Wrigley but everything needs to be fixed up occasionally

There is no room to make a new ballpark because wrigley field is so close to the streets going around it. Trust me if they could have built a new ballpark they would of.

As a Cardinals fan I want to visit Wrigley one day, the only thing that prevents me is the money. I just hope the fanbase doesn't try to berate me the whole time I'm there if I wear my Cardinals stuff.

I hope you make it to Wrigley soon. And people won't be too hard on you. We took a trip down to St. Louis for a game once. Nice park. We had a good time. We may be rivals, but that is no reason we can't be friends.

Yeah, that would be just like when the New York Yankees shared Shea Stadium with the Mets in the mid-Seventies when old Yankee Stadium was being remodeled.

They better not knock it down and build a new one. It's a national landmark, go Cubs

They already destroyed the most iconic stadium and replaced it with the new Yank Me Stadium

Of course they can go ahead with all that. It's October. Why not save $$ and install a scoreboard that shows just the visiting team's runs?

Good! It's not like the things they mentioned were the only things needed to be upgraded! What's to be fooled about? Do you think that they are moving?

Much more impressive than that DUMP Fenway. Fenway looks like they put a stadium together in 10 months with scraps from any and everywhere JUST in time for Inspection

While I do agree that it might be time for the Cubs to get a new field, I don't want to see Wrigley demolished, even as a Braves fan. It is a significant part of MLB history and should be kept standing.

I wouldn't want to see a new concourse plaza. One of he charms of the park now is the existing neighborhood. Fenway did a great job with their upgrades keeping the park feeling like it always did, but lost some flavor with Yawkey Way modifications. You can no longer just walk around the park either.

Apart from adding the outfield jumbotrons (something I personally am against), I think the Ricketts family succeeded in saving Wrigley! I'm very grateful! Like Fenway Park, it's just one of those parks that can NEVER be replaced!

They should definitely renovate, really take their time and do it right. It might take over a season to do, in which case they need to make arrangements with the White Sox to share U.S. Cellular for a season while it completes. "The Cubs on the south side? Sacrilege!" Remember, it would only be for one season, and that sacrifice would ensure that no corners are cut with Wrigley's renovation. I'm an Orioles fan, and Wrigley field inspired Camden Yards. That inspiration must be properly restored

deplepfan I went there for the 1st time a month ago. No complaints except for the parking. I paid 60 bucks for a blocked in spot across the street next to taco bell...

I look forward to the Cubs doing this the correct way similar to how Fenway was restored.

I am a tigers fan but I had the pleasure of sitting in the front row bleachers last summer I think it is one of the most beautiful stadium I've ever seen and it's so full of history I think changing the stadium is a sell out they don't care about the game it's all about money and who has the best stuff now. smh

so are they changing any of the obstruction views like in the 200 level? i really would like to know if anyone has any information!!!

Alf is certainly multifaceted.

As a Cubs fan the only thing that will better my experience is if they put a good team on the field and stop trading off their best players every season. Oh, and they better keep the troughs

Cubs are my favorite NL team, and Wrigley is one of my favorite places on Earth. I cant stand the fact that there will be a scoreboard (jumbo-tron) put in place, also not a fan of the Cubies adding more night games, so much tradition will be lost... such a shame. Go Cubs Go!

They've been investing big money in young players so that they can grow their own all-stars.

One artist's rendition I saw earlier showed the new electronic Jumbotron-type scoreboard being placed @ the top of the LF bleachers, & leaving the current scoreboard in place for posterity. This video makes no mention of that or anything else pertaining to the bleacher areas. Anyone know anything?

The renos aren't bad but it will never be better than the best major league park in the world ..... The Rogers Centre in Toronto

I always wear red and there will be a ton of cardinals fans there trust me. Just beware of all the drunk cub fans as wrigley is pretty much a big bar. I'd be drunk too if I was a cub fan.

Not only did it happen, new ( and controversial) Jumbotrons were installed in left and right field. And walking outside of Wrigley in 2019 is almost like you're entering a different universe compared to 5+ years ago. New developments are popping up all over the place around to and attached to the ballpark. It's seriously a new Wrigley now.

You don't like the idea of more jobs, a better game experience, a higher payroll (meaning better players), and a better park? And all at no cost to the city.

90% of these comments didn’t age well.

And now beers are $10, hotdogs $6, tickets if your lucky jacked up over 100%. . And if you can't afford a day at the park, the bars and restaurants will charge you $20 or more to walk through their doors. They could of just left it alone, make electrical updates and locker room. And now a 42 yr. old man died, falling over a railing. Why mess with a good thing.

I am not opposed to being in a brand new park. been a cub fan for nearly 30 years, and I would rather have a winning franchise and NOT have wrigley, then to have what ive seen in the last 30 years and have wrigley. The way things have been looking for the cubs lately, im right on the borderline of being done with baseball altogether. Seems like we are relying heavily on these young "hot prospects" to develop, while the big team gets dry humped up and down the field all day

This shouldn't be allowed it should be protected as a historical building. If they need more money put a better team on the field.

Jumbo scoreboards blocking the views outside of the park, added seats so that the concourse is still too small and with new concession stands attracting more people it's more crowded than ever. Overall I think that half of the charm is gone

The video mentioned increased points of sale numerous times. We all understand that MLB stadiums are for making money. Unfortunately that line between a mall park and a classic is tight. Personally, Wrigley went over that line when they added all the giant video boards full of ads around the outfield. It's no longer a neighborhood park.

In 2013 the Cubs averaged 8534 unsold tickets per game or 691,254 tickets unsold for the season. So much for the myth you are trying to sell.

Outdoor concession: "Fans can relax outdoors and enjoy the great scenery on a nice summer night". If that's what I wanted I would go sit on a downtown sidewalk. Why would I pay $75 dollars for a ticket for a Cub loss, $30 to park, $10 per beer, $6 for a hotdog, $6 for 1,000 nachos and a cup of cheese big enough for 2 nachos, rude vendors, rude security, $20 to the worthless lazy bums hanging out at Wrigley. I'll sit on the sidewalk. Thanks Thomas S. Ricketts, but no thanks.

they make all of their money off of someone else's product and then are too greedy to allow the ricketts to do what's best for the organization.

There Are So Many Good Points And Just As Many Bad Points. One Thing You Can't Deny Is. You Can't Call It Historical Wrigley Field Once All This Starts. I Don't Care What The Historical Society Has To Say, They Got Paid Off.

Insane! Build a whole new stadium! Knock it all down. Have hotels into the sky left & right field corner. This will be the biggest failure in sports history. If I had 2 Billion to spend, I would build skyscrapers of hotel overhanging the outfields. I would build it all fresh....It will still stink as piss this way

They should just tear the whole facility down and build a new one from the ground up.

Just build a new stadium somewhere else. Get rid of this dump. Let the agreements with the leaches across the street run out and go build a new ballpark.

Stop using the excuse of going to see a (bad) baseball team to stuff your face and making yourself drunk in public.

Wrigley field is the biggest dump in Baseball not much more than a class A Stadium... Miller Park in Milwaukee is way nicer a true big league ball park

argyjr If you think about it what I said was educated. The stadium is a jinx. Plus if they want to keep adding useless crap they might as well build a new ball park for the Cubs. So they can either tear it down or try to turn it into a museum.
